OUR FAMILY THANKSGIVING By: Ada Mae Every year, our family on my mom’s side celebrates a special Thanksgiving together. I have 6 cousins, 3 aunts and 3 uncles on this side. My cousins are: Grey, Dora, Sadie, Emma, Dylan, and Alex. My aunts are: Auntie Al, Auntie Sue, and Auntie Anna. My uncles are: Uncle Steve, Uncle Charlie, and Uncle Mike. My grandmother always comes to Thanksgiving, too! I have two pets named Thelma and Zeke. Zeke (who is a cat) gets scared during Thanksgiving because of Grey and Dora’s dog Milo, our cousin dog who just wants to play. Zeke usually goes upstairs and hides under my parent’s bed. Thelma (she is a 3-year-old puppy) loves the attention and she and Milo wrestle pretty much half the time. They always settle down, though and just chillax. Auntie Sue and Uncle Charlie’s dogs Remington and Olive do not usually come because they live in Maine and it is too long of a ride for them. Same for Apollo. He is Uncle Mike and Auntie Anna’s dog. They live near Providence, in Rhode Island! Way too long of a drive! Uncle Mike usually brings the cranberry sauce. Whoever hosts Thanksgiving has to make the turkey and supply the gravy! My dad usually carves the turkey. When we host it at our house, I always make name tags (Grey does this too) and I cut out white squares of paper so we can write down what we are thankful for. Then I read them aloud to the whole family, after dinner, and we try to guess who wrote them. It is very fun! Usually Auntie Sue makes the healthiest dish (which we are all grateful for). She usually makes a salad or a fruit plate. It is always really delicious, no matter what she makes. Dad usually makes the mashed sweet potatoes and sometimes I help him. I sometimes make an appetizer like a salad with my grandmother who comes up from New York every year. Everyone in the family makes pie for Thanksgiving! You could say it is a tradition. My favorite pie is probably pumpkin or key lime. Except, last year Uncle Mike went to Maine and picked a ton of blueberries, which he later made a pie out of. It was scrumptious! I think it is now on my list of favorites! I really hope he makes it again next year. Of course, the next morning, I would get to find Twinkly Star (my Elf on The Shelf) in my house somewhere. She comes every Thanksgiving
night. It is always fun! Me and my grandmother find her together every morning she is in our household! So, that’s our family tradition at Thanksgiving time. What’s yours? I hope you enjoyed my story!
