YOUR CONCERT CONNECTION
When a concert airs on New Hampshire PBS, we like to say viewers have the best seat in the house – snacks are plentiful, and there’s no line for the bathroom. Still, NHPBS On-Air Fundraising Producer Amy Greenlaw knows that sometimes there’s no substitute for being in the house and watching a performance live.
“Our fundraising drive is when we tend to air programs that are new and exciting that we think people could benefit from seeing,” Greenlaw said. If she can offer viewers the chance to have a once-in-alifetime experience as part of that fundraising special, so much the better.
When she started at NHPBS six months ago, Greenlaw hit the ground running, negotiating with local venues and concert promoters to come up with unique experiences for donors, like an upcoming Joe Bonamassa concert that includes the opportunity to see the performer’s soundcheck. “I find it rewarding when we have ticket offers, and members that have attended the shows let us know how much fun they had,” she said.
In particular, meet and greets with artists are always popular. A recent meet and greet that stood out was with musician Joanne Shaw Taylor, who told Amy how much she loves PBS programming. “She’s so happy to be able to support us through these member experiences,” said Greenlaw. “Finding that connection with NHPBS members, the artists and NHPBS, and then bringing them together, is like the icing on the cake.”
It’s that connection between programming and viewers that Amy focuses on in her work as a producer. In addition to collaborating with venues and artists to create ticket offers, Amy also scripts the membership drives that not only promote thank-you gifts but also explain why it’s important to support NHPBS. She wants “to convey the importance of member support, so we can continue to provide programming that resonates with our community.”
“I am continually amazed by the passion our members have for PBS,” she noted. Amy credits that passion for NHPBS to the station’s mission to celebrate the Granite State while enriching viewers daily lives—whether that’s through unbiased news, how-to and cooking shows or being inspired by a show like WINDOWS TO THE WILD.
Amy recognizes that, among these enriching experiences, there are few things as satisfying as a great night out. Currently, Amy is securing tickets for talented tribute bands performing in New England. “They really take you back to a place and time! Since many of the bands that they cover are no longer together, it’s a great way to experience that music in a live setting.” To see our full concert lineup go to nhpbs.org/events.
What’s in store for future fundraising drives? “I think we’ll be going even further out of our comfort zone.” Amy’s always on the lookout for the next can’t-miss opportunity for NHPBS members. With that in mind, she wants viewers to know she considers the process of producing on-air fundraising drives a kind of collaboration. “We love to hear from viewers.” If you have a suggestion for special programming you’d like to see in a future membership drive, Amy encourages you to contact NHPBS at themailbox@nhpbs.org
