MAY 2020 VOL. 8 NO. 5
TOGETHER WE PERSEVERE As we all adjust to the realities of COVID-19, there’s a lot that feels uncertain in the world right now. But one thing is certain: you are our neighbor, and we’ll be here for you as a trusted source of information, with programs that bring you the news of the day with the clear, fact-based reporting that is the hallmark of public media. And, when the time comes for you to step away from the news for a bit, you can be certain that we’ll be here for you then as well – filling your senses with the great outdoors, world-class art, theatre, history, drama, travel, music, children’s programming and more. Most of our staff has shifted to working remotely from the safety of our homes, but our jobs remain the same - we’re committed to you and to filling the needs of all Granite Staters. For weeks now, producer/editor Steve Giordani has been working alone on the second floor at the NHPBS Broadcast Center. Around Steve’s cubicle he sees computers on with screens flashing as colleagues write scripts, edit programs and create new graphics - but eerily there is no one sitting at these desks. This is what it looks like today at NHPBS, as staff work remotely. “It is a little strange, but I think it’s nice because I know we’re all still working towards the same common goal,” says Steve. Steve has been putting in many hours editing a new documentary, MT. WASHINGTON AUTO ROAD TO THE SKY, that premieres on Thursday, May 21st at 8pm.
And I can see a lot of similarities between the people who were determined to build a road clear up to the summit of the highest mountain in the Northeast and the staff here today at New Hampshire PBS. Both were up against epic challenges, but they were and we are determined dreamers — driven to get the job done and to persevere. Through the tremendous support all of our members and corporate partners, we are able to produce programs like MT. WASHINGTON AUTO ROAD TO THE SKY and create a new online resource for children, teachers and families called LEARN AT HOME. As we all navigate these turbulent times, we hope that we can count on your support so that we can continue to serve every resident of our community in the critically important weeks and months ahead. If you would like to support our mission, please consider making a gift now at nhpbs.org/donate. As events remind us daily, we may be apart but we’re all in this together. Be well and be safe.
