DISCOVER THE WORLD WITH NHPBS
There are so many reasons to travel the world. I believe there’s nothing better than getting a fresh perspective, meeting new people and discovering a different way of life.
New Hampshire PBS has long brought armchair travelers on a virtual tour of the world with programs like RICK STEVES’ EUROPE and JOSEPH ROSENDO’S STEPPIN’ OUT. But if the travel bug has bitten you, NHPBS also offers up some real-life experiences. For over seven years, we’ve teamed up with American Expeditions and taken travelers to Germany, Norway, Iceland, Scotland, Ireland, France and Portugal. This month, we’re headed to the Yorkshire Dales to celebrate ALL CREATURES GREAT AND SMALL.
A lot of the people who have been on multiple trips with us enjoy reuniting with past travelers. Beatrice Rogers, from Nahant, Massachusetts, embarked on our excursions to France and Portugal. “It was delightful to have some of the same people on the Portugal trip who were on the France trip the previous year. It felt like reconnecting with old friends,” said Rogers.
Ed Mehigen of Stratham echoed that sentiment. “One of the amazing aspects of these trips is how quickly the group comes together and the development of lasting friendships.”
Dave Owen from Wolfeboro has been on six trips. “I choose to go on these trips with NHPBS because they are going to places that I have always wanted to see, the cost of the trips fits within my fixed retirement income and the people and the accommodations are always pleasant.”
On some of our tours, as an added bonus,
WINDOWS TO THE WILD host Willem Lange and videographer Steve Giordani join us to film a special episode of the program, highlighting the country and its environment. Willem, a true raconteur, shares stories about the region along the way, and travelers get a behind-the-scenes look at what goes into filming the show.
“Our local guides bring us to walk across the top of the Pont Du Gard or offer a private concert, where we’re serenaded by traditional Portuguese Fado musicians, or lead us to explore the breathtaking Icelandic countryside,” said Lange. “In every show we film, we try to capture the essence of the country, its people and the beautiful countryside for all of our viewers at home to experience along with us.”
France traveler Greg Moulton, from Standish, Maine, said, “I’ve always wanted to see the Alps, southern France and the Mediterranean, so the itinerary was perfect. Plus, I have been a fan of Willem and WINDOWS TO THE WILD for years, so it was great to have a chance to travel with him.”
For some people, organizing a long trip can be overwhelming. Going with a planned NHPBS group tour makes it easier, especially if you are traveling alone. “It was a trip of a lifetime for me,” said Moulton. “Don’t be afraid to go on your own, as I did. Everyone was very friendly and welcoming, and I immediately felt comfortable and bonded with fellow travelers.”
“If anyone is looking to travel with a great bunch of people… and also contribute to a non-profit organization, then I highly recommend booking a trip with NHPBS,” said Theresa Burns from Charlestown.
