Logo & usage The Tuolumne Utilities District logo combines three elements: The logotype and the graphical element. These elements should never be changed. Position, size, and color, along with the spatial and proportional relationships of the District logo elements, are predetermined and should not be altered.

Used consistently, they will reinforce public awareness of the District. The District logo is presented through the use of colors as well as shape and typography.

Construction & clearspace The Tuolumne Utilities District logo requires separation from the other elements around it. The space required on all sides is roughly equivalent to the height of the graphical element. It never should be less than that. The logo must always fit into the

clearspace area and can not be intervened by other graphical elements which could hinder legibility of the brand. These exclusion area is shown below for the two versions of the logo.

Color variations & sizes Sometimes, often due to production costs, only one color of ink is available and so the Logo must be reproduced using only one color. In this scenario, the logo must be used following the convention of using a light color type on a dark background or in a dark color

type on a light background. The logotype and the symbol must be clearly distinguishable from the background color. You must use the District’s logo palette when possible, using black or white if necessary.

Using the artwork This page explains the file naming system for the artwork of the various versions of the logotype. The filename contains all key information to identify the appropriate logo version for each application. The logotype is supplied in EPS, AI, JPG and PNG file

formats. For printed documents use always the EPS or PDF files. PNG files should only be used for the web applications or if you are using Microsoft Word or Powerpoint. Please make sure that the correct artwork for each application is used.

A lt er nat i ve l ogo In lieu of the Tuolumne Utilities District logo, a badge can be used on print material. The badge is circular and can be placed behind or in line with the text. Elements that make up the badge: the District’s name, logo symbol, slogan and established date.

Color variations: you must use the District’s logo palette when possible, using black or white if necessary. The badge is a circular shape and cannot be altered in any way.

Using the artwork Winterize Your Home and Property! Don’t let winter weather catch you unprepared. Frigid temperatures can cause one of winter’s worst woes – frozen water pipes. Get your home ready for winter now! INSULATE EXPOSED PIPES, FAUCETS AND PIPES PRONE TO FREEZING: Outside faucets, pipes and pipes in unheated garages and crawl spaces are most vulnerable to freezing weather. To prevent pipes from freezing, wrap them with insulating material. Cover them with plastic and secure with tape, string, or wire. Also, remember to disconnect garden hoses. Convenient and inexpensive foam and fiberglass insulation are available at hardware stores. Electric heat tapes are also available to prevent pipe freezing of exposed pipes.

LOCATE YOUR MAIN SHUT-OFF VALVE: Don't wait for an emergency. Find your main water shut-off valve now! If a pipe breaks, you can stop excessive water loss and flooding by turning off your main water shut-off valve. It is commonly located next to the meter, in the garage, or outdoors by the foundation. Test the valves by turning the handle to be sure it is working properly and identify it with a tag. If a main shut-off valve does not exist, it is worth having one installed now by your plumber.

WINTERIZE YOUR VACANT HOUSE: If you leave your house for several days, take the following steps to protect pipes from freezing: 1. Turn off the main shut-off valve. (Remember to turn off electricity or gas to water heater.) 2. Shut off and drain your water system. Open indoor and outdoor faucets to drain pipes. 3. Flush toilet once to drain the tank but not the bowl. 4. Leave cabinet doors open so room heat can reach the pipes. 5. Leave your heat on at a minimum temperature of 45 degrees or warmer to help keep pipes from freezing in interior walls. 6. Do not leave water running.

KEEP A SUPPLY OF EXTRA WATER:

SHOULD A PIPE FREEZE?

Store some extra water during freezing weather in case a main break or frozen pipe cuts off your water supply.

Never thaw with an open flame. Open the faucet first. Start by warming the pipe as close to the faucet working toward the coldest section of the pipe. Apply heat slowly with a light bulb or a hair dryer set on low. Keep the heat moving in that general area, but never concentrate heat on one spot. If that doesn’t work, call a plumber.

If you suspect an emergency or a main water line is broken, immediately contact TUD’s 24-hour Customer Service at (209) 532-5536 so it can be repaired as soon as possible. Signs of a broken TUD water main include water running down the road and buckled pavement. Visit the TUD website at www.tudwater.com for more tips on how to protect your home in the winter.

Logo color palette Use of color for the printed & digital logo. The following palette has been selected for use in Tuolumne Utilities District communications. Lighter tints of these colors are also allowed, but the Logotype + background may only be used with a 100% tint. The primary colors include a dark cyan blue,

that embodies the creativity and dynamic of the agency. The additional colors are gray and white to underline the seriousness of the District. A comprehensive color palette has been developed to provide flexibility while creating a unified, recognizable appearance across all communications.

P r i n t g r i d sys t em s Use on DIN A4 and letter format. The grid is used as a guide for how to place text, photos and advertisements on the page. The font size that you use should be proportionate to the grid. Using a font that is too large will cause odd hyphenation and breaks, which

can be difficult to read and using a typeface that is too small can cause strain on a reader trying to get from the start of a line to the end. The 12 column grid is always the basic. For special prints, a 6 column grid is also allowed.

The icon itself is a comprehensible symbol of a software tool, function, or a data file, accessible on the system and is more like a traffic sign than a detailed illustration of the actual entity it represents.
