ENTERPRISE AND INNOVATION
TASK 3
NIALL CRUICKSHANK-SUTTON BA GRAPHIC DESIGN OUCE255 TASK 3
Based on the principles that have been introduced so far in the Enterprise module and your findings in previous tasks, evaluate the most suitable marketing methodologies for your own practice and the most effective methods to reach your potential customers. It is essential that you make references to some of the methodologies in the ‘Marketing Communication Mix’ and evaluate the ‘Place’ that will give you the greatest competitive advantage and be convenient for your clients / customers. This is an exercise in applying that theory – it is not appropriate to write about the theory itself. Demonstrate your understanding of it by actually using it. In responding to his task you should consider the following questions: What do ‘they’ want to hear? What should I say to ‘them’? How will I communicate with ‘them’?
Promoting yourself as a designer is one of the most important aspects of putting your self out there. You must understand how to interact with your target audience. As a young designer I would like graduate and work for a studio to gain experience and knowledge, exploring the way industry works, this will create a situation where I may not only have to promote my self to become apart of a studio but also once I have gained employment I would have to promote my self and a team I work within. This would require me to be able to express that I have the skills required to do such a task for example, having communication and presentation skills, to be confident in my self and the any team I may be working as a part, having full knowledge of what I/we are about and how we could benefit any potential clients. Looking at the idea that I would have to promote my self to a studio looking for employment I would not only have to show a comprehensive knowledge of a specialist field but also show I am capable of putting my hand to many other aspects of Graphic Design. Where as to a potential client I would need to have the communication skills to give the client confidence in the work I will produce this could be done in a number of ways, for example they may want to see samples of work, this could require a portfolio, digital in the form of a website or blog, or printed. Using a website to promote your self has many plus points, it is easily accessible from any where in the world you can have specific content including contact details, testimonials, awards etc... The web page can also show a comprehensive amount of your work well documented and presented. Another great promotional devise would be networking this can be done in a number of ways, firstly going to events, exhibitions and fairs. The other alternative to this is web based having a following on social networking sites for example twitter or facebook this medium is a great way to communicate with other designers and indeed potential clients.
