In conjunction with the Access Office at the Institute of Technology Blanchardstown, second year ITB Creative Digital Media students were delighted to work with 6th class students from St. Patrick’s Senior National School, Corduff. Students drew inspiration from the wonderful narratives, and visualised the creations though Illustration. www.creativedigitalmedia.ie/littlebigimaginaton The Access Office at ITB The main aim of the ITB Access Office is to ensure that access to third level education becomes a reality for students who are currently under represented at third level. One of the key roles of the ITB Access Office is to provide opportunities to students who traditionally might have found it difficult to access third level education, as well as to promote positive perceptions of the value of, and the enjoyment that can be gained from education generally. ITB has established many strong links with both primary and second level schools in the Dublin 15 area. We have collaborated with St. Patrick’s Senior School in Corduff on many projects over the last number of years such as school gardens, science week, robotics, maths workshops, creative writing workshops and this project has given us a great opportunity to capture a snapshot of the amazing imaginations of the 6th class children. -”Ahhhhh I’m late for School.” Shouted Harry as his alarm clock rang loudly. He jumped out of his bed and into the shower. After he was done dressing, he raced down the stairs into the kitchen and age his breakfast with enthusiasm. -”Bye mum. I’m off to school.” -”Harry”. His mum yelled. -”Did you remember to feed your pet fishes?” -”Yes mum”. BAM! He slammed the door with force. “I wish I had some pets that had legs that could get out of their cage and get their food, so I would not have to do it. Dinosaurs, yes I would like some pet dinosaurs.” He thought. -”Hey Harry, give me your lunch money.” -”Oh no.” Said Harry. It was Josh, the bully who has been always picking on him. Harry quickly rushed into his class and shut the door. -”Harry.” Yelled the teacher. -”You are late yet again. Five hours of after school detention should punish you enough.” -”Why don’t you punish yourself?” Harry said quietly to himself. -”You think I should be punished eh?” Said teacher. -”How about eight hours? See you in detention.” In detention Harry saw a bucket in the corner with small talking dinosaurs called Pablo, Tina, Tyron and Oscar. -”Yeeeeessss.” Said Harry. He had finally found his pets.

In a land far away, there were three heroes whose mission was to take down an evil villain called Killer Croc. He and his gang were the worst people around. So my friends and I decided to put together a team to take him down. Allow me to introduce the three assassins: Crack, Snap and Pop. They are the greatest in the town, they’ve never been caught and will not stop. Then there is Mr. Weetos, a man who always gets the job done and the last but not least, Stiffler the Coco Pops Monkey, he is wise and skillful. The team and I heard that something was happening in the city, and we went out to investigate. We saw Killer Croc entering a dark building. The assassins went around back, and Mr. Weetos and I went to the front. When we were ready, we ran in and fought the evil gang. I attacked Killer Croc to take him down, but he led us into a trap! We had to fight back, but killer Crop blew the place to smithereens. When we came-to, killer Crop was gone. We escaped this time, but the killer was still on the loose. We searched the city and finally found him and his gang. We were going to give Killer Croc a run for his Money, and we attacked them all. The gang members were beaten, and I was fighting Killer Croc to the death. I kicked him in the face but he was so angry he pulled out a gun and shot me! Mr. Weetos stepped in to help, and tackled Killer Croc to the ground, so the police could arrest him. The assassins took me out of the building and Mr. Weetos blew the building up to save the world. “Thanks to Mr. Weetos. the real hero” I said, the world is saved!

Once, there was a boy named Dylan and he was 15 years old. One day whilst he was walking home from school, Dylan decided to take a short cut and came across a big wooden house. For some reason he thought it would be a good idea to enter the house, he was afraid but his friends were with him so he tried to act cool. He approached the porch and pushed on the big wooden door, it opened with a groaning creek. Inside the house it was very dark and creepy with the only light coming from the moon outside, Dylan was still trying to act cool but he was really scared now. He went into what looked like a sitting room; there was a TV and a couch, which made him think someone was actually living there. If it’s someone’s house, he thought maybe he should leave. Dylan went back to the front door but it was now locked! He could no longer act cool and started to panic but his friends calmed him down. All of a sudden the group heard a strange laughing coming from somewhere in the house! It was all too much for Dylan who sprang into action and grabbed a nearby chair, throwing it towards the window, which broke into hundreds of pieces, without another thought he dived through the window and ran. …And he never stopped running until he was safely at home; I’ll take the long way home in future he thought.

The stopwatch that could stop time

Story by jordan deegan Illustration by jonathan doyle

One day there was a knock at my door, I opened it and there stood the postman. “Hey got a delivery here for a Jordan” he said. “Eh I didn’t order anything”.”Look kid do you want something for free or not”? I signed for it and took the package into my house, set it down on the table and began to open it. The package was heavily wrapped and took some doing to open. When I pulled the last piece of wrapping off, there sat a really colourful watch with one huge button in the centre that was labeled “start”. I took it out and noticed there was no instructions. I pushed the start button and everything around me seemed to freeze! I looked out the window and everything had been frozen in time. I pushed the button again and everything started moving. I quickly ran to the phone and called my friend Jamie, “get over here quick, I’ve something really cool to show you”! Jamie didn’t waste time in getting over, I showed him the watch and asked him to touch the button. Everything froze again, he was amazed! “What can we do with this?” I said. “Wait! We can do anything we want”! So, we got loads of money, stopped time and boarded a plane to America! When the plane landed we stopped time and sneaked off the plane before anyone noticed we had no tickets. We used the watch again to get a red Ferrari and then drove to The White House; everyone was frozen so we had no problems getting in. We picked president Obama up and threw him out the door, and then we replaced all of the old furniture with cool things we liked. We had a garage full of the best and fastest cars and bikes in the world and we even had a car in the living room, we replaced the windows in the front and back with 116-inch plasma screens. Oh what a life it was, living in The White House!

The Amazon Story by Adekunle Edebiri Illustration by Stephen Duffy

Once upon a time there was a boy called Adekunle. He was royalty, and all of his subjects looked up to him. The great thing about the kingdom was that it was full of talking animals. The kingdom was very peaceful, but one day Adekunle’s brother Trent wanted to rule the kingdom all on his own. Their father Arthur declared that there would be a battle for the throne. Adekunle was five years younger than his brother and he did not know what to do. “I shall make a plan to defeat my brother Trent?” said prince Adekunle. “Prince Adekunle, the kingdom is waiting for you to being your battle against Prince Trent“ a talking centaur said. “Now these two brothers will face each other in a cell with only their swords to protect them“ announced King Arthur. “Now are you two brave warriors ready to fight? “He exclaimed. They both yelled “yes! “. They both fought bravely, but in the end Adekunle won.

I had never run so fast in my life. You might be wondering why I’m running but it’s because I’m off to a death mission. My name is Sasusan Tobayo and I’m an anime hero. I’m a descendant from the great Yazuka Kunichimaru, in other words a descendant from the great Tobayo family. I was sent to earth from my home far away in space called Sasnan, yep I was! I was brought here to save the earth with my friends Shong and Shing. They’re boy and girl twins. Shong is the boy and Shing is the girl. Shong can hover, Shing can fly because she has wings and me, well let’s just say I was born to fight. Our Sensei Tanvirdan sent us to this death mission. Death missions only happen once in a Shinobis life and I’m not going to mess it up. This is the part were I pause the story to tell you something, Tanvirdan is a dwarf. Now back to the story... We are here but that’s all the time we have. This will be continued next time on! Remato.

Story by dominic kunick Illustration by Niall Lennon

It was an early morning, as bright as the sun itself. I woke to find myself lying on the ground in a block land. I saw a sign saying “To go back to the real world you must defeat the Dragon in the end”. I had to head to the nearest village. A sign said that the village was up north. Finally I saw some people and I knew this was the place. It had a sign saying “Your house has an iron door with buttons to open”. Once I got inside I saw another sign saying “Iron gear in the chest in your room”. I woke up the next day with a person standing beside me. His name was Notch. Suddenly two other guys appeared called Jeb and Herobrine. They told me they would help me defeat the dragon. I was given two and a half stacks of pearls. They said it would help me find the portal and that they would meet me there. Then they faded away slowly. Soon I found the portal. I was down to four hearts left and I only had one arrow, but I took and leap and I shot it. BOOOM!! Was it a dream, or not...?

THE TALKING

PIG

Story by PATRICK MCGINLEY Illustration by guitar egbon

Once there lived a talking pig named Billy. Billy lived in a field with lots of talking animals. Billy and the horses are great friends and they spent all their time running around the field. There was a man who lived nearby named John. John was a scary, evil man who liked to do mean things to animals. He had cuts and scares on his face. He was always filthy and his hair was always messy. Nobody liked John because he was bad and liked to hurt animals. One day Billy was munching on some lovely truffles when he suddenly fell very sick. John had put rat poison in Billy’s Mushrooms. Luckily the farmer happened to be walking through the field and he saw Billy lying in the grass. He rushed him to the vet, who gave Billy an Injection to make him better. Meanwhile back at the field, the horses decided to go get revenge for Billy. They kicked John’s car and broke his windows. They dented his car with their big hooves. John arrived and asked, “What are you doing”? The horses replied, “that’s for hurting our friend Billy”. After that day, John never hurt an animal again and was very sorry.

My task is very plain, to tackle stress and mental strain. A yoga class to make me calm, improve my posture and my charm. While my teacher was saying, ‘oh no, no, no!’, I kept saying, ‘oh yes, yes, yes!’. My sister’s name is Mary Ray Jay. She was crying because someone dissed her, but I was crying because I had a blister. The next day, Mary told me it was the first day of May. I realized it was her birthday. I could not believe I had forgotten. I bought her a power ranger, which was a lower range than mine. Mary got engaged to this guy called Page. I was really annoyed so I moved to Paraguay. Then Mary told me she was moving to Uruguay. This week was the worst, of the worst, of the worst.

Story by Aaron O’Hanlon Illustration by Edel Twamley

Last summer I was on the beach having a great time but suddenly I felt sweating. So when I got out of the sea I went to my uncle to ask for a drink. He said he didn’t have one. I started to get a bit annoyed. My uncle said he’d left the drinks at home. I had to wait three hours until the ice cream van came. As soon as it arrived I went over to my uncle. I asked him for money to get something off the ice cream van. He said he had no money as he left it all at home. I told him to go and get his money. While he was getting the money I was trying to distract the man working in the ice cream van by talking to him to give my uncle time to get back with the money. My uncle gave me two euro to get something from the ice cream van. I was going to get a drink but I decided I to get an ice cream instead. The man gave me a big 99 for two euro. When the man handed me the ice cream it suddenly began to talk. I went to back to sit beside my uncle. I thanked him for the ice cream. I named the ice cream Goggaly Man. I really liked him. I wanted to keep him for a long time but I couldn’t because I was so hunger. I eat him and he was lovely. Goggaly Man saved my life.

One summers morning, Jimmy woke up with a sound of a cars engine starting. He opened his window to see what it was. Jimmy’s eyes opened so wide in amazement. He ran down the stairs and outside he went. “Wow! What a wonderful car! I would love to eat it right now” said Jimmy. Suddenly, the car started to talk saying “hey you don’t touch me or else I’ll knock you down! Oh yes, what’s your name?” “My names Jimmy. What about you?” “My name is Jelly Belly Wispa.” Jimmy got into Jelly Belly Wispa and took a lollipop off the exhaust. “Yum it tastes like a black Jack” he said. They were driving around and the car drove into the woods but he started getting tired and suddenly he broke down. Jimmy was worried. He didn’t know what to do. “Hello young boy. Nice car you have. Is it broken down? My name is Gregory. I have some food and drink here if you want some”. Jimmy’s phone rang. It was his mother “Help! There’s a man here and he has one eye” But then the phone call was finished and he didn’t know what happened. Finally, the car said, “Coke, need Coke” so they poured Coke into it and it was like brand new. Off Jimmy went in the car heading home. When he got home he started eating sweets off the car. By the end of the week, Jimmy was fat.

I ran through the corridor. I knew Mom told me to never open the door to strangers, but what can you do? If you’re me and worrying what to do and you’re frustrated that she’s taking ages at the shop. I heard a ring on the too. So I stupidly opened it. I was so silly. Mum never rings the doorbell, she always has her own key. It happened so quickly. The robbers just ran in ignoring me. There I was running all over the house like a total idiot. They were bound to steal everything. Te television; oh how could I live without it? I quickly looked back, the robbers were in the kitchen ad I heard them banging pans and kicking the bin. I was so frightened. I didn’t know where to run, I glanced at the back door. I ran to it. I tried to unlock it but it didn’t budge. “Someones there!”, I heard the robbers say to each other. I heard their footsteps coming towards me with. I opened the door with huge effort and ran out to the back garden. They were only breaths behind me. I came to a wall at the end of the garden. They were coming nearer. I had to jump over it. “NO! NO!” I heard a shriek. I saw a car, I was on the ground. Everything went black. “Ally, what’s wrong?” said Mom. “What w-w-waht happened?” I stuttered. “You had a bad dream, don’t worry” Mom continued. “But it looked so real!” I replied. “It’s alright, jest go back to sleep.” Mom said calmly. “Okay.” I said. It was all just a dream.

Before I turned back around something grabbed me. It covered my mouth so I couldn’t scream. Next thing I knew, we are going down, down, down to the basement. Then he starts yelling at me and he sees my locket around my neck. He tries to snatch it. He also had a guns when he tried to pull the trigger I hit him. I called Mandy’s name and thankfully she answered and I closed my eyes. The next thing I know is a bunch of aliens land on earth and Mandy and I are running from government agents & aliens. Oh did I mention we now had superpowers, like in the movie? We created our own super suits and were off flying and kicking alien butts left and right. Robert won’t give me my book back!”. “I wish you guys could get along” said dad. “Why don’t we go on a picnic in Ox Woods?” said Dad, “sure, why not?” answered Robert, “Do we have to go?” I asked with an unpleasant face. “Boys!” my Step-Mum Alice cried, “Come wash the dishes, its your turn”. Robert never washes the dishes, and he started to laugh. I feel like slapping him in the head. I ran down stairs to do the dishes. When I was finished I made some jam tarts and my favourite Rice Krispie cakes for the picnic. “Guys, it’s time to go. Alice, put the food in the cooler!” yelled Dad. As I was putting all the food away, I had almost forgot the drinks so I grabbed two bottles of lemonade and then we left. “I know a perfect place” exclaimed Dad. Finally we arrived at the picnic spot”. “Put out the food boys” shouted my Step-Mum . I grabbed one of the jam tarts and gobbled it up, so I decided to take a cool drink of lemonade and I guzzled it up in one go. My Step-Mum looked at me in shock. “I told you to set up the picnic not to eat some of the picnic food!”. “Who cares and I was the one who made them! “ I replied with a horrible look on my face. “Lets go home now” demanded Dad who was getting angry. “But we just got here” I said with a surprised look on my face. We hopped in the car and drove home. “I can’t believe I’m wasting my summer” said Robert in disgust. “What are you complaining about?” I asked. “I was supposed to be at a party with my friends but your step-dad wouldn’t let me go” Robert continued. “My dad is not stupid, you are stupid and you are a pig too and so is your lazy mom. “Take that back!” I argued.... “No you pig!” said Robert. “DAD! In a hole in the ground, there lived a rabbit. It wasn’t a nasty, dirty, wet hole, filled with worms and a terrible smell. Nor was it a dry, bare sandy hole, with nothing to sit on or nothing to eat. It was a rabbit hole and that meant comfort. It had a perfectly round door painted green, with a shiny golden knob in the exact middle. The door opened into a tube-shaped hall like a tunnel. It looked a very comfortable tunnel without smoke. It had panelled walls, and tiled floors, finished with polished chairs. The Rabbit was fond of visitors. He was just sitting down to a cup of tea when he got a visitor. It was a Hobbit. The Rabbit was good friends with the Hobbit. So the Rabbit made some tea and something to eat for the Hobbit. “This is lovely,” said the Hobbit. “Would you like a dessert?” asked the Rabbit. “Oh yes please”, exclaimed the Hobbit. Then, while the Rabbit was eating, someone knocked at the door. “Oh no, it’s a hunter”, said the Rabbit. The hunter shot at them, but couldn’t manage to hit them. Then the hunter heard police sirens in the distance. “Oh no”, he said, “I have no license for my gun”. He quickly ran thinking he was going to be put in jail.

Story by David Power Illustration by Jamie O’Grady It all started when I was 21 years old. Me and my friends went to a night club. We drank some Pepsi and then we needed to go to the toilet. We were at the toilet and two zombies came out of nowhere. We killed them but there was one zombie behind us. We passed out and woke up in a very foggy and scary place. We started looking around for some people. Then we saw a car. We looked inside the car and we saw a bag. We opened the bag and there were lots of weapons. So we took it. Nine zombies came from a shop. I shot one and its head went through the window of a car and then, blew up the car. My friend Bakawani battered one. One came running for me so I hit it with a hammer. Luke strapped a bomb to a zombie and blew it up. Yhan started shooting it with an AK47. All of them died except for one, and Iverson shot his head off with a gun. Three more came out of a super market. It bit Bakawani and he died. Iverson tried to help him but he got bitten as well. The two of them were dead. We cried. Me, Luke and Yhan started shooting the zombies. We cried all night long. Then we didn’t know there was a zombie in the house and we died.

She was wearing a light pink dress with white polka-dots on it and a pair of white shoes. Rose was looking for hours and hours but she couldn’t find any cranberries. Rose was about to give up when she spotted something running around the trees, so she started shouting “Hello? Is anyone there?” but nobody answered. Rose remained searching for the person or animal running around the forest, then out of nowhere a tiny little rabbit came out from behind the tree and came up to Rose. Rose thought he was so cute! When Rose picked him up she petted him, but he was crying. Rose didn’t know why he was crying and then she saw his foot. His foot was all swollen and cut, he had caught his foot on a thorn bush and that’s why he had made so much noise by the trees. Rose didn’t know why he was crying and mumbled to herself “If only you could talk, then I could help you.” And then the unbelievable happened he talked and announced “I hurt my foot please help me!” Rose was in shock and she said “Okay I will help you.” She pulled the thorn out of his foot and he said “FOLLOW ME!” So Rose followed him and he said “Watch this!” and he pulled a branch from a tree and then a whole different dimension of a colourful magical forest appeared. Rose was in so much shock that she had to sit down. The rabbit told her to “Follow me” once more and then he said “Do you see that castle there? It’s yours for the rest of eternity.” Rose was so happy because her parents weren’t very nice to her, so Rose decided to stay there with the prince. The next day, Annbell told her parents nothing, because she had a plan. She decided to tell the principal. The principle called all three of the bullies into her office. They were ordered to say sorry and write an apology. They were also suspended for two weeks. Annbell could now eat and play in peace since they left her alone after that. I hope they learned their lesson. All the bullies’ parents came into the school and grounded them from wearing make-up and fake nails. Annbell is now free to do what she wants to do.

We are going to order pizza and watch a scary movie. My Mam says that if I change my mind I can have my party in the restaurant. Sometimes I work there at the weekends to give a helping hand if any of the staff are out sick. Whoops! Forgot that my party’s about to “Ding! Dong!” Start. I need to get out of my jeans and t-shirt and get into my new dress. Oh My God, I forgot to leave out the snacks. “Ding! Dong!” Done changing, going downstairs in my new heels “Clink! Clonk!” I open the door and my friends are standing there, so I tell them to come in. They all give me my presents and we go into the sitting room to get ready for the movie. Half an hour later we make the popcorn and begin to watch “Blood Zombie 4”. The movie isn’t that scary, no murders in it. Last year, my Step-Dad dressed up as a chain-sawer but he didn’t scare me! I’d been assigned to watch over the biologics research team. Now a nameless fear awoke in my heart as I was being sent to investigate a strange life-form that the G.F.C had discovered on a strange planet; ‘Series’. It was there that I was attacked by a life-form I had never encountered before. It was only later that I knew the identity of my attacker: The parasitic organism we now know as X. So once again I found myself on the surface of Series. As my ship docked on Series, my C.O. informed me that there had been an explosion in the quarantine bay. Ignoring it, I pushed on. I didn’t really get a warm welcome on that wet rainy day on Series, but I knew what had to be done. I jumped down a ditch ready to fight. Then, there it was, Mother Brain, leader of the space pirates. I began to shoot missiles at her but it didn’t work. I was done for. Suddenly, a large ghost-like creature flew through a nearby wall and began to suck the life-force out of the brain. Thinking fast, I started the self destruct sequence, climbed out of the ditch, hopped into my ship and flew off, knowing that I owe that creature my life. If I shall ever see it again I shall help it in its time of need. My name is Seamus, and that is what happened on Series.

Story by sinaly nyafa Illustration by Ciara Gaughan The Anderson family were very poor. They were so poor they could only afford a shack on the edge of Lagos city. Mr. and Mrs. Anderson had two sons, Michael and James. Mrs. Anderson was expecting her third child in a few months. They were so poor, Mr. Anderson went begging in the city everyday. He sat down and pretended to be blind. When he peaked to check how much he had collected, he saw a brown envelope in his hat. This was very mysterious so he glanced round him to make sure nobody was looking and he ripped open the envelope. Inside there was just a piece of paper with a few words written in blood red ink……”if you want money you must say the Grand Master three times”. He closed his eyes and began to say Grand Master three times. When he opened his eyes he found himself in the devil’s playground. A dark lonely figure was walking slowly towards him. In a mysterious voice he said “if you want money you must kill your family and even your unborn child”. With that the man turned and walked away laughing in an evil way. When Mr. Anderson opened his eyes he found himself back on the street begging. After another couple of hours begging Mr. Anderson grew tired and decided it was time to go home to his family. His wife asked how much did he earn. He lied to his family and told them they were rich beyond their wildest dreams. Mrs. Anderson was so surprised that she raised her gown and started to dance happily around the shack and out into the forest. Her husband and children followed her joining in with the dance. As they went deeper into the forest it grew quite dark. Mrs. Anderson grew worried about the darkness and decided to turn around and head back. When she turned around Mr. Anderson had his gun pointed straight at her. She let out a scream and tried to run but he fired the gun anyway, killing her. When the children heard their mother scream they both legged it back towards their shack. However they didn’t quite make it. Their father was quicker than they were. He shot them as they were still running. Mr. Anderson returned home to the shack without a backwards glance. All he could think of was the money he would get. The next morning, he was excited to see the Grand Master and finally earn his prize. He got out of bed only to find the bodies of his family on his bed and their ghosts in the mirror. He let out a terrified scream. The ghost of his wife struck him by the neck with fire. Mr. Anderson fell to the ground with bloody money in his mouth. The Grand Master came out of nowhere. Mrs. Anderson and her two children fought with the Grand Master. While this was going on Mr. and Mrs. Anderson’s unborn child transformed into a snake. The Grand Master didn’t see the snake inching towards him ready to bite. The snake bit him and filled him with poison. The Grand Master fell to the ground dead. He could no longer harm any other families with his cruel ways. With the Grand Master dead his evil spell was broken and all the hurt he caused was but right. The ghosts of Mrs. Anderson are her children were returned to their bodies were they came back to life.

Eventually, when they went to bed they had a dream that a dark figure was outside the mansion. Then they woke up and the figure was there. All of a sudden, they were at Jaden’s house with a book and three times their weight in gold, jade and amber.

One summer’s day Sarah and her dad went horse riding. Her dad’s horse was faster. Sarah got lost in the forest and cried after her father but he left. She heard scary noises but she was relieved that it was only birds tweeting in their nest. Then she heard a beep of a car, the horse was startled and fell under the car. Sarah cried and ran screaming for her father. She saw her father’s horse’s footsteps and followed them. She saw her dad’s hat and feared he might be dead. Sarah was confused, upset and lost walking through the forest until she came to a river. Suddenly she slipped, falling into the river. She was unable to swim so she clung onto a rock. Out of no-where, Sarah’s father heard her screaming and ran over to rescue her. He helped her out of the river. They were so happy to see each other. They tried to find their way out of the forest but it kept getting darker and darker and colder and colder. They came to a dark and creepy house where there was a note on the door for them. Sarah jumped when she heard a phone ringing. She found it in the flower plant and answered it. Sarah’s wicked step-mother screamed and shouted, telling Sarah’s dad she is going to get him! Then she jumped from the house and released a vicious dog. The dog riped her father’s heart out killing him. Sarah bravely rang the police and they arrested the mother. Sarah’s mother got locked up and died in jail. Sarah went to live with her Nanny and Granddad.

The Ghost Master Story by Dennis Abewu Illustration by Conor Redmond

The day was cold. The cave was damp, and even colder than it was outside. Devin and I were looking for a camping spot and this cave was the best place. Suddenly we heard sounds. The Ghost Master was upon us! We tried to run, but we were frozen to the spot with fear. Suddenly, we were all the way back to the other side of the forest. We realised that he had taken our bodies and souls and turned us into ghosts. We soon learned the only way to destroy the Ghost Master was to trap him in a mirror and smash it. The problem was how could we get all the way back to the cave? Then I remembered, I had a Ferrari. We got to the cave an hour later and prepared to fight. We saw the Ghost Master with our bodies and we made a plan that Devin distracted the ghost, while I trapped and smashed it. But unfortunately, it wasn’t that simple. He saw us and started choking us. But I managed to escape. Devin kicked the Ghost Master in the face and ran my way. I was hidden behind a wall and as soon as I heard the ghost coming I jumped out in front of it and trapped it in the glass. Then, with no second thought, I smashed the glass and our souls returned to us. We got up and congratulated each other. We destroyed the Ghost Master and continued our camping.

The Mysterious Phone calls Story by I.K Orumwense Illustration by Jonny Rowen

Suddenly the phone rang. Tom jumped out of the chair and ran to answer it. There was nobody there, so he put the phone back, and sat down in the great armchair. He waited for the next call. He thought it was his mum as he was expecting her home from work. She worked at a hospital. Night fell, his mum still hadn’t arrived home. The phone rang again. He was very scared now. He turned on the lights and thought he spotted a robber in the kitchen. He ran upstairs and hid under his bed. He was horrified. Suddenly he heard a mans voice shouting, “I’M GOING TO KILL YOU.“ Tom screamed with fright. Just then, he heard someone barging through the front door and it slammed behind them. It was a second robber. He wanted to call the police, but was too scared the robbers would get him and kill him. Next he heard his mum’s voice downstairs. He wanted to tell her to leave but he wasn’t quick enough. The robbers had already killed her. He heard her screaming below him. He then heard footsteps on the stairs, so Tom ran up to the attic to hide. The attic was dark and very damp. The robber spotted Tom and followed him with a gun. Before he could take another step, He shot Tom and dragged him out to the back garden. He just lay there. The police arrived. They caught the two robbers and shot them both dead.

Devil has a sister called Vampy. Chuckie went to sleep. Devil got a knife and stabbed Chuckie. Suddenly Devil and Vampy heard a noise, it was Chuckie’s parents. His father, Sean, called Chuckie. He didn’t answer because he was dead. The rest of the children were outside. One of them, Rene, went to get Devil. Rene crept into Chuckie’s room to try scare him but it didn’t work. Rene stood as a statue for two minutes and screamed at the top of his voice. Everyone came sprinting upstairs. His mum, Jessica, saw Chuckie dead on his bed. Nobody could believe it. Two weeks later, at midnight, there was a sound downstairs. Sean went to go see, no one was there. He heard it again, still no one there. The third time he checked, Chuckie’s ghost appeared and had a knife. He killed his father with a stab to the neck. He said “one down, five to go”. It was four in the morning. Cregg, Chuckie’s older brother, went downstairs into the kitchen to get a drink; suddenly Chuckie axed Cregg’s head off. Chuckie whispered “Two down, four to go”. With a smile on Chuckie’s face, he went upstairs to kill his mother. His mother was sleeping upstairs without knowing that her husband was dead. Chuckie killed one of his other siblings instead of his mother. The next morning she died from drink driving and so the rest of the children became orphans.

It was quite dark as the moon was their only source of light. That’s when she felt her dog, a Golden Retriever called Max, strain on the lead. Then his collar slipped off and he ran. She found him moments later barking and scratching at what appeared to be overgrown bushes and rubbish. As Molly tried to get Max on his lead she noticed he had something in his mouth. At first she thought it was a rat but when she made him drop it she realised it was a human arm. Molly and Max ran home to tell her parents about their find. She got worried as clouds started to hide the moonlight, but they were quick and made it in time. When they got inside their garden Molly made Max drop the arm. She staggered through the front door, Max at her heels. When her parents saw how white her face was they asked what was wrong. She told them about how Max ran away and returned with an arm; they called the police. When the police arrived they questioned everybody and took notes. When she couldn’t recall the location because of the darkness, they agreed to collect them next morning to try to identify the exact place the arm was found. The police took the arm back to the station in a plastic bag. Max wasn’t happy because he wanted to play with it! When Molly woke next morning the police were already there. They explained what they wanted them to do. It seemed simple. They had to walk like they did yesterday. Max was so excited when he heard the lead rattle, another walk! Molly put Max’s collar on and made sure it was tight enough so that he couldn’t get out of it this time. Then they began to walk. There was only a small group of people with them her parents, two policemen and a detective. Max knew something was not right because he was more active than usual. Eventually they reached their destination and the police cordoned off the area to search for more body parts. Molly saw something move in the bushes and decided to investigate. Max followed closely behind her. As she went deeper into the dense forest, she caught sight of a man dressed in black. Her heart started pounding as she realised this could be the person responsible for the arm in the field. Molly and Max lost the man in the forest and cautiously wandered back to where the police and her parents were. Suddenly the man grabbed Molly and covered her mouth so she couldn’t scream. She was terrified. Max ran ahead when he saw Molly being attacked. Then she saw a glint of metal and realised he had a knife. This was it, the end of her life. Max ran back towards the girl, barking. The man panicked and the knife moved closer to her throat. Then Max lunged at the man and barked until the police came and handcuffed him. Molly ran back to her parent’s and hugged them like never before. After a few moments Max interrupted their emotional embrace with a loud bark. They were so elated that their ordeal was finally over.

I’m going to tell you a tale but you must never tell a soul. The story starts on Sally’s way home from school. It was a rather dull day. Sally’s mother was expecting a baby. Sally didn’t like this one bit. She snatched a balloon out of her mum’s hand. With a sharp gust of wind the balloon blew away. Sally ran to get it and a truck came around a sharp bend, and BANG! Little Sally was gone leaving both her legs and her right thumb behind her. Sally’s mum had her baby. The baby’s first present was Sally’s thumb. Two Months later! KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK Sally said, “DID YOU REALLY THINK YOU COULD GO WITHOUT GIVING ME MY LEG BACK?” It took her mother a few minutes to realise that Sally was there, she said “Who, who are you?” “No, it can’t be you, YOU’RE DEAD!” “Oh, but mother it can be and it is!” She began to saw off her mother’s leg and then cut off her hair. She began to sew her mother’s leg on with the hair. Sally called out in a girlish screech, “Ahh! Get away. Ahh!” Knowing that her dad would run out thinking something was wrong. He ran out screaming and she cut off his leg. She then sewed her father’s left leg on with the remains of her mother’s hair. She then peered into the room and saw her baby sister but that was another tragic tale.....

Story by Rebecca Johnston Illustration by Dan butler

This all started a long time ago. A serial killer went around killing people nonstop every night. Then one night a little girl was all alone walking home from her friend’s house in the lashings of rain, when the serial killer jumped out right in front of her. He was wearing a long black cloak, black trousers and a black top. You could hardly see him. But this little girl was so afraid of him she ran and hid in a dark alleyway. He could not see her anywhere. She thought she was safe. “Where are you little girl? I’m not going to kill you. I want to bring you home so you will get there safely”, he said very nicely. At the entrance of the alleyway she saw him standing there with a knife in his hand. The little girl remembered that she had a Stanley knife in her pocket. She took it out on the sly and CHOP!!! Off with his hand. After that she stabbed him to death. He fell to the ground as he was loosing too much blood. He died, lying in his own blood. The little girl became famous. Years and years later the little girl, Violet, was no longer a little girl. She was all grown up. She owned a big mansion, three Ferrari’s, two Jeeps and a Husky. One very warm night she didn’t light the fire. Something started crawling down her chimney. She didn’t notice at all. She lay down on her sofa and turned on the TV. She felt something crawling up her leg. She let out a big scream, ran into the kitchen, grabbed a knife and said, “Whoever you are, stay back. I’ve killed someone before and I’m not afraid to do it again.” She ran into the sitting room and right in front of her was a hand. The same hand she chopped off ten years ago. “You’ve come back to seek revenge, haven’t you?” she said in a confident tone. She ran out of the house and the hand chased after her. She ran and ran, and ran, but the hand kept gaining on her. Now she was afraid. What was the hands weakness, she thought to herself? He doesn’t have a weakness. I know what I’ll do. I’ll do the same thing that I did when I was a little girl. He should remember that. So she ran into a dark alleyway and hid. The hand ran in after her. Before she could kill it, the hand jumped up and dug its nails deep into her face. It went all the way from her eye to her mouth. She screamed in pain. “That’s it. You’ve gone too far.” She grabbed it by the fingers and threw it into a bin. Then a bin truck came and emptied everything from the bin into the bin truck. Who know’s where it is now...

Story by NANCY KUTI Illustration by greg callan

Mary and her husband George wanted to adopt, but they weren’t sure. After a long time considering it, they finally adopted a baby girl. They called her Melissa. They thought she was the most beautiful child in the world. What they didn’t know was that she would be the kindest, nicest, mannerly little girl that ever walked the earth. As she grew up, her parents noticed that she never did anything naughty. If children were unkind to her, she would still be nice to them. One day as she walked home from school, a bully approached her. He was twice as tall as she was with curly hair, beady eyes and VERY bad breath! She thought she could not stand up to him so she tried to run away. There was no escape, more of his friends arrived Melissa was terrified now. Then, she heard a voice in her head whisper “Good will always be better than bad”. She thought about that for a moment and decided to try and out smart the bullies. “If you can stand on your hands longer than I can, I’ll give you my money and new iPod. If not, you leave me and the rest of the school alone forever!” The bullies agreed to this deal, thinking they could win. They bent down and pushed themselves up against a wall, upside down on their hands. One by one, they lost their balance and fell. The main bully lasted the longest, a whole three minutes but Melissa wasn’t worried, she knew she was going to win. After a moment of looking at them, Melissa took up her position. She sat on the ground and placed her hands under her feet. She said,” I can stand on my hands forever like this”.

The Spirits of War

Story by Haylie Marsden Illustration by sean finnegan

Once upon a time there lived a man and woman called Brian and Jenny. The couple had a young daughter called Kim. One summer the family decided that they’d like to try a holiday to the wild jungle of America. The family chose a house on stilts in the middle of the jungle as their perfect vacation. The family boarded the jungle plane and arrived in under an hour. Upon arrival to the jungle airport, the family took a quick water taxi to their new home. Kim gasped when she saw how amazing the stilt legged house was, and the family proceeded to carry their suitcases inside. No sooner had the family unpacked their belongings away, when Kim started pleading with her mother Jenny to go for a swim in the pond nearby. Jenny reluctantly agreed and the pair headed for the pond. Brian shouted after them, “I’ll follow you down in a minute”. Jenny and Kim jumped into the pond and started to swim around. Unknown to them something else was in the pond that very afternoon. Brian suddenly screamed from the shore, “Crocodile! Get out of the water!” The pair screamed as the crocodile raced toward them. Then clambered up the pond’s bank narrowly missing the jaws of the giant crocodile! Kim, who had been badly cut in all the commotion, ran into the house and called the police. The police arrived on the scene in minutes, and began to tell the tale of a boy called Malcolm who’d been eaten by the very same crocodile. The house was boarded up and the family never returned to the jungle ever again….

The first match of the season was on Saturday. I could hardly sleep thinking about it! What if I broke my leg or something and couldn’t play? I had to stop think like this, I’m sure everything would be fine. The guy I was afraid of was Minto. He was fantastic at the game and extremely strong. Nobody EVER beat him or got a ball past him!! My team is great. Our goalkeeper was okay. It was one more day to the match. Our manager rang and said we had training. On my way I called for Fergie. When he answered, we ran as fast as we could so not to be late. We finally arrived there. Our manager spoke to us about the match. He put Fergie and I up front as strikers. Damien, Dougo and Suggy were midfield. Lar, Demo and Betsy were in defense. Chonk was in goal and Skelly and Skinny were subs. The manager told us go home and get plenty of rest. So I went straight home and into bed. Our team was called The House of Samurai. The team we were against was Mean Machine. When match day finally arrived, both teams were on edge. At half time, it was one all. Fergie scored for our team. The second half started. Minto came on as a sub in defense. Fergie was running with the ball towards Minto. Before he knew it, Minto knocked him off his feet. It was a disaster. He had to get taken off the pitch. It was all down to me to score the goal. It was a penalty for us. I stood there, feeling under pressure. I felt scared. I took the shot but hit the crossbar. Their keeper kicked the ball out. Skinny came on for Fergie. He got the ball. There was only a minute left. He ran as fast as he could and crossed it into the box. I jumped up and headed it straight into the back of the net. IT WAS A MIRACLE!!!! The referee blew the whistle and it was all over. We had won the game two – one.

GHOST

Story by Sorrele NoutAHA Illustration by Kaya Keats

Mediator and therapy master Yogi Bear, the deluded, funny-looking brown bear lived on Mt. Iwannapeepee. First he helped Yeti to make friends by improving his posture, his charm, his manners, his vocabulary and his looks. In the end I heard he found a friend (awh how lovely, freaky but lovely). Then Yogi Bear helped the Grim Reaper whose problem was that he found it hard to sleep. Yogi Bear suggested that he swap his gloomy, grey cagoule for something cheerful, young and cool. People found him so funny that they couldn’t stop laughing. He managed to sleep better. Finally it was Genie that had a problem. His problem was that he could not fit into his lamp (no wonder with all the happy meals he had ate and all the cokes he had drank). Whenever somebody tried to ask him to grant a wish he would either end up limbless, losing a body part, without clothes on, or in a desert somewhere. Yogi bear decided to give him exercises and good encouragement. Weeks later he was slim and was able to get back into his lamp (few I thought that was going to take forever). Yogi Bear is no stranger to strange problems, or honey.

The Car Crash Story by Natasha Tuite Illustration by Jonny Rowen

It was a cold, lifeless night. The trees swayed back and forth violently. Emily couldn’t sleep. She looked at her five year old brother Jamie. He was fast asleep. Her mum was in bed, and her dad was probably driving home from work. He worked as a scientist in Leeds. Emily tossed and turned but she couldn’t get to sleep.“That’s it. I’m going outside,” she said. Emily snuck downstairs and rushed out the front door. It was windy and starting to rain, but she didn’t care. She saw her bike against the fence and was riding along the street in minutes. She kept pedaling faster and faster until......BAAM!!! Emily screamed as a loud bang knocked her onto the ground. She whacked her head off a large rock and it started to bleed. Her head was throbbing with pain but she didn’t care. She ran towards the noise but when she got there, she froze. In front of her there was a blue Toyota on fire, with two police cars parked nearby. A young Welsh policeman came up to her and said,”Looks nasty. A car has crashed into a tree. Apparently the man’s name is Keith White . You know him?” Emily whispered, “he’s my dad.” Emily ran towards the car. By now, many people were crowded around it, waiting for the ambulance to arrive. An old policeman, a different one this time, stopped her from going near the car. ”Sorry missy, you can’t go over there,” he said. “But he’s my dad!“ she shouted. “EMILY! EMILY!“ a voice said as it came nearer. “EMILY!“ It was her mum and Jamie. “What’s going on? AHHHH!“, her mum screamed when she saw her husband. “What happened?“, she shouted. Before Emily could answer, the ambulance arrived. The doctors took her dad and placed him in the ambulance. Emily, her mum, and her brother were brought to the hospital in Leeds. They rushed her dad into A&E. Emily and the rest of her family waited outside the room on a bench. She looked at the clock every 5 seconds. It felt like a lifetime. They had to wait overnight and Emily couldn’t sleep. During the night, Jamie woke up crying. He said that he thought their dad was a ghost. They all began to cry. A couple of hours later, the chief doctor came up to them and said, “We’ve done everything we can, but.........“
