FLATWEAVE COLLECTION I’m extremely pleased to present our Flatweave Collection.

Dubbed the “cheap chic collection,” these designs create a lot of drama for about a third of the price of a hand-knotted rug.

The perfect choice for stair runners as they’re thin and easy to install, wonderful additions to beach houses, guest bedrooms, kids’ rooms or any room in which you want sophisticated beauty on a budget.

Popularly known as “dhurries” or “kilims,” there are no knots used in the weaving process. Dhurries are traditional designs from India; Kilims, from Persia, can be found anywhere from the Balkans to Pakistan.

Woven on a flat loom, using a variety of techniques – the “warp” strands form the foundation and the “weft” strands are simply threaded through to create a flat rug. A variety of techniques are utilized based on the final desired effect. The “ fat loop” give a look similar to needlepoint, as represented in Palazzo and Cathedral. Big Small Stripe and Flag Day are produced on a special loom which creates a braided appearance known as “soumac”. The very geometric patterns in Gazebo, Reed and Kinetic utilize a third technique – a number of paddles create the design…hence the term “paddleweave”. Last, but certainly not least – Upstairs, Decowave and Zag Stripe are woven using a hand over tufted technique which creates their high/low patterns mimicking a hand-knotted rug.
