memory project I tried to reflect the memory of my old babysitter, who helped raise me throughout my toddler years. She passed away a few years ago and recently I have been reflecting on how much she helped me grow to be the person I am today. She cut my hair, taught me about foods, quizzed me on spices, gardened in my yard, and most of all helped my family trememdously. That is something that we will always be grateful for, and never be able to pay her in return for. I wish she could still be here to see my work, but I know she is watching from above. I wanted to depict her love for food and spices with the apron that I used as the base pattern for my dress.

Week no.1 Project no.1 Typography Based off observation in the different archtecutral elemants of New York’s older deteriorating urban buildings and their cultural contribution to the aesthetic of the city two fonts were devloped.

Color theory and Figure Explorations Project. Figure concept: Androgny, distortion of the figure while giving it an undefined sex. Color theory concept: Amputation of the esential cultural aspects that make the city of New York what it is. These aspects are often overlooked, however without things like hieghts, deteriaration on buildings and people, the city would be crippled.

Final Projects: Mutataia: Three garments were created for the purpose of this project as well as three images based offf one of the garments. Dealing with introverted social behavior, the concept was explored in the three stages it was felt: intimidation, coercoin, and resistance.[Red, black and white garment] The pictures follow the concept of resistance and the fading of memory. Rice: Triggered by a scent and a loning for home, “Rice deals with the senses stimulating memory but the inability to fully relive it. The rice balls on canvas depict the different weights of the memory but like the Rocher tests on it, every individual will percive it differntly. Sum.2015 F.Calderon

EDITORIAL - VASI

DECONSTRUCTED

To create the background, I had traced over a scanned photo and did further digital edits through photoshop. I was seeking a more retro or fun vibe with the use of pastel and brighter colours. I particullary enjoyed this project as this was my first time creating a fashion piece. I got to experiment with different sewing techniques as well as different dress forms. I was able to creating my final peice through different design phases.

With the help of a seam ripper and a pair of scissors, I was able to deoncstruct a thrifted old men’s sleeved top to create a baggy and loose dress.

Pink filter to match other pastel tones

Sinching in the waist to create form I cut the pockets off and sewed them to the center to add more dimension to te dress

DECONSTRUCTED...(cont.)

Before creating my one of my final pieces, I had experimented with different filters and tones.

For this editorial I decided to keep it minimal, with minimal colour and a simple light green filter. I added a short poem to the picture in a thin font to maintain a constant minimal theme.

PROJECT 1 - VASI

COLOUR THEORY

This project allowed me to express my indivudal style, I tried to keep my 3 pieces fun and unique - I incorporrated the picture of the hand into every picture to keep a common theme. Each piece had to include aspects of the colour theory (opposite colours)

TYPOGRAPHY

This project allowed me to first explore adobe illustator and figure out its different

tools. Our first adobe illustator assignment was to download a font and then customize it to our liking. I decided to keep mine simplistic with minimal changes.

After creating our own personalized name ‘font’, we used tools on illustrator to create 2 different modules, in which we would later use to make patterns out of.

TYPOGRAPHY

For the next project, we were asked to create our own ‘NEW YORK” font design. We had to create a mood board (inspired by the city, logos around the city), then produce modules then again create new patterns.

MEMORY 3-D I personally thought that this was the most enjoyable project throughout this course as we finally got to create a 3D object, and I was able to paint, which is something I enjoy doing. The main concept behind my memory (and how NYC triggered it) - after noticinf how much art there is around us everyday, I realize that art is one of the aspects that makes me feel at home and comforted. For me, art is home. This is what I hoped to reflect on my mood board. I had gathered numerous personal photos of street art, or what made me feel at home. For my piece I decided to take a home object, in this case a pot, and paint street art on it. This way I was able to show how art made me feel at home.

The first two projects that we made in class were about color theory and typography. It was great to play with the composition of colors by using it in pictures that Im actually interested in. I started tying to make my piece by getting parts of my images cut and convining it with colors in the white spaces.

Memories Projects

Draw of my sister.

For the memory project I used drawings of people that I care about, or things that had happened related to them. I expressed that by drawing them on plates because it was something that I used to share with them and I like the media. My concept for boths, the garmet and the plates was based on my memories with my sister and my friends and how I used to fell around them.

Amira Aburida My time at Parsons

I am participating in a three week intensive course at Parsons called Design Studio. I have two teachers (Vasi anf Gigi) where I have been doing a variety of projects. With Gigi, we›ve been doing a lot of online, Adobe software, assignments. We have completed a mini unit on typography in Adobe Illustrator, where we took a font then created a version of our name , where we then continued on that to create modules. We alse created out own New York City typeface by hand, then digitalized it, then also › created modules

The following described images a behind my final typography projec My name on the left is a font that I have manipulated and changed in Adobe Illustrator . I had chosen this font because it›s fun, whimsical, arabesque nature I feel, represents .me The featured module was created also in Adobe Illustrator by using the rotation tool and command D. I turned it enought times to created this effective spinning look ., balancing positive and negative space To the left is the finished pattern. I used the above module and created a bricklike pattern, getting what you see here

are a brief viewing of the process cts, both name and new york city I had originially designied this font one hundred percent by hand. I took a picture of it, uploaded it into illustrator, and then traced my handwritten lettering virtually This is once I added color to font. I chose blue to be more new and high tech, while orange is warm and classic; gray is neutral

Here, I have created a module with the black and .white version of my font

I also took the colored version, using the same module, and made a pattern
