COEXISTENCE 02
the Chinese elk park
Humans both fear and yearn for the sea. The sea brings many beautiful creatures, a source of life, but it also hides dangers. In recent years, the global climate is warming, the sea level is rising faster, and the news of melting glaciers and submerged islands is frightening.
When was looking at China's eastern coastline and its recent sea-level rise data, found a flat depression on the border between the cities of Nantong and Yancheng in Jiangsu Province. With only the outermost dam to support it and farmland inside, this unplanned land is highly likely to experience severe flooding in the coming decades. Therefore, I want to choose this land, conduct research and analysis on it, and plan the preliminary idea of land-sea symbiosis.

Inundation of coastal areas Changes of site shoreline (1987-2018)

In recent years, the global temperature is warming, the sea level is rising, and the coastal areas may encounter floods, tsunamis and other disasters in the next few decades.

• linear landscape blocks

Sewing up the fractured shoreline landscape, which makes the landscape blocks here communicate with each other tighter, creating a complete ecological chain for both humans and animals.
• resilience → sea level control
Resilient landscape strategies to cope with flood disasters caused by sea level rise. A series of strategies, such as controlling the type of farming, setting up floating houses, and planning the shape and arrangement of wetlands, have increased the area's tolerance to floods, while creating resilient cities that co-exist between people and sudden natural phenomena.
• buffer islands → ecology
The buffer on the outside of the boardwalk is planted with flood control and flood tolerance plants led by mangroves, which reduces the harm caused by floods by biological means. It is partially submerged by the sea at high tide and emerges from the sea at low tide, creating a unique landscape.
• city walk → civic vision
The construction of seaside walkways will bring new hot spots for urban residents to punch in. The curved walkway that highlights the coastline has its own characteristics.
Tourists standing on it can feel the ocean and coastline landscape more directly, and get close to nature. It is a good place for city walk.

Farmers work in the fields and fish ponds. Windmills use the sea breeze to bring electricity.

The floating houses and vegetable growing areas in the sea make people feel magical. A series of wetlands connect to each other and eventually lead to a curved walkway.

People walking along the walkway overlook the buffers used to weaken flood waters. There are many mangrove trees, and many birds live on the buffers.

TANK WET-LAND PARK 03
SITE PRELIMINARY ANALYSIS & MAPPING
Site Animal Situation

Sight line
Wandering around Nanjing, I came across this one - painted on a beautiful pattern of asphalt drums: industrial remains, abandoned factories in transformation. Society is constantly developing, and the appearance of the city is constantly updated. I brought new landscape renewal ideas to this abandoned asphalt storage and transportation plant.
Use plant purification to deal with the pollution left by asphalt; The site will be transformed into a wetland into a long urban green axis; The oil tank is transformed into a new community and urban agricultural space by means of combination and disassembly. I believe that in such a paradise, human beings can have more sustainable thinking about the environment and ecology, and friendly coexistence with animals and plants.

The height of the asphalt storage tank obstructs the view of the surrounding residents to the green area, and the appearance of the oil tanks are not good-looking.

Accessibility
The factory has only a northeast gate for people to enter and exit, and a small gate on the northwest side for vehicles to enter and exit.
Nanjing-QiXia

Green axis
The location of the plant interrupts an entire coherent urban green axis, leaving the plot fragmented.

Surrounding
The site is surrounded by a single function, only residential areas and schools, the lack of necessary public facilities and entertainment venues for residents.

Pollution

Control of chemical pollution residues
Native animal conservation
Protect historical identity

Abandoned
There are many old and rusty instruments on this land, and the soil is also polluted to some extent.
The factory's tank reads "Industrial heritage, transformation and development", indicating that the factory is in urgent need of renovation.

Asphalt in the production, processing and use of the process will produce a lot of harmful and polluting substances.
• environment
Produce harmful gases such as VOC, CO, NOx, etc
Produce benzene, toluene, xylene and other harmful chemicals to cause water pollution
Damage soil properties, affect the normal development of plants, make the soil barren
• Human health
It affects respiratory system and endocrine system, causes skin diseases, has phototoxic effect and carcinogenic effect.

Biologically, bats contribute to the stability and diversity of ecosystems. Bats feed on flies, moths, and other insects, thus controlling insect populations very effectively. Some bats also pollinate and spread seeds for many plants important to humans. Because bats thrive in places where ecosystems are healthy and stable, bat populations are one of the best natural indicators of environmental health. From an economic point of view, insectivorous bats can help farmers and the environment by controlling pest populations and reducing pesticide use. In addition, bat droppings are rich in nitrates, which can be used as fertilizer.
However, in recent years, due to habitat degradation, overhunting, habitat destruction, urbanization, pesticide use, climate change and other reasons, China's bats are under great threat, about 51% of the species are above the near-threatened level.
designed warm, dark nests for bats based on the shape of insect cocoons. The upper part of the cocoon is interspersed with many branches, which act as a foothold for the bat to hang upside down. The central pod allows the bats to move freely. The entrance at the bottom is easy for bats to get in and out.
At the same time, we will collect the bat waste that falls on the bottom of the cocoon as a good fertilizer.

The design features a vertical axis design that can produce energy with wind from any direction. intended as a tool that can be used alongside other sustainable initiatives, the turbines can be connected to smart grids and solar panels.

TWILIGHT

A DAY IN VISUALLY IMPAIRED PRIMARY RESEARCH

There are about 15.5% people over the world have trouble in identify colors.
In 2020, 1.1 billion people worldwide will be living with visual impairment.
-43 million people are blind (a rough prevalence of 0.5%).
- 295 million people have moderate to severe visual impairment (rough prevalence of 3.7%).
-258 million people have mild visual impairment (a rough prevalence of 3.3%).
-510 million people have myopia (a rough prevalence of 6.5%).

There are about 8% people over the world have trouble in identify colors.
The work that visually impaired people can do is not only chiropractors, they can also be musicians, telephone operators, secretaries and many other jobs.
Due to my unproficiency and blindness in the path of misplaced cars, walking on the road all the way bump.
is like a monster suddenly appearing on the blind road.
I have once been a volunteer in Nanjing School for the Blind for several days because of social practice. We live in a country with more than 17 million visually impaired people, but they are rarely seen on the streets. knew very little about this group before I became a volunteer. After getting along with them, found that they had many difficulties in their life. As a result, I wanted to make a small, healing design for them.
The project site is located in a green area beside the Yangtze River near the 'Nanjing Eye'.
I've made a semi-open exhibition hall. The main body of the pavilion revolves around the 'senses', showing the memory and life of the visually impaired through hearing, smelling and special vision, and presenting it in the way of landscape. Outside the main pavilion are gardens greenhouses and a music plaza for healing and relaxation. The project also addresses the lack of public facilities around the site.
I hope this project will resonate with the society, so that people are willing to understand and experience the world of the visually impaired and help them. I'm in the mood for letting people know that we already have a lot, and it is time for us to help the visually impaired build their lovely world with everything beyond their eyes.
Red-green blind people account for about 8% of the global male population and about 0.5% of the female population. About 6% of the population is trichromatic (achromatic), about 2% is dichromatic (achromatic), and a very small number is monochromatic (achromatic).
Street Interview

The blind path is too close to the flower bed......
There are many unreasonable places in the design of the blind way, such as starting to turn 0.5 meters before the column, it will definitely hit people!
Q1: What senses mainly guide your feeling of the world?
When bored, listen to the song, the sun shines through the glass on the skin, and the temperature of the world becomes clear.
was annoyed that the traffic lights did not beep, and it was my companion who finally told me when to move on.

generally rely on hearing, touch and smell to perceive the world. The main thing is hearing, the variety of sounds gives me a basic sense of things and directions. The sense of touch is also important, relying on the cane or various parts of the body to distinguish the softness of objects, road types and obstacles. What is more, smelling is also a very important part of daily life, we often use the sense of smell to find references, such as smelling the smell of the fruit shop to know the next intersection to turn.
Q2:What is the most difficult and helpless time in your daily life?
"Irreparable vision" is the most helpless time in my life. For example, the recipe says, "The meat should be fried until golden brown," so what is the color and degree of golden brown?
Q3:Are the public facilities you come into contact with in your daily travel perfect?
In today's cities, public facilities for people like us are very imperfect, such as the construction of blind roads, shopping malls, stations and so on. In fact, many blind people will choose to walk in the slow lane, because the blind lane is mostly occupied by electric vehicles, newsstands and many other obstacles, and it is very irregular, walking in the slow lane can increase our vigilance, and walking along the curb will be very smooth.
Q4: What can relieve your fatigue and anxiety in your life?
In my spare time, I like to listen to music to relieve myself. Music and audio books can bring me inner peace. In fact, there is not much difference between our pastime and that of ordinary people, and people are not close to us probably because they do not know us.

SWOT ANALYSIS OF THE CURRENT SITE

Strength
—The site is flat and adequate, and no previous facilities need to be demolished.
The venue is in a tourist area, which is easy to attract foreign tourists.
The site is near the river, and the surrounding environment is very ecological, with fresh air and beautiful scenery.
The site is located in Nanjing Hexi area, the economy is relatively developed.
Weakness
The sightseeing area is mainly for scenic viewing and lacks buildings and public facilities that can provide indoor rest space.
The flow of people is small, only a few tourists to take scenic photos and joggers.

Threaten
There may be a flood! (Although the probability is very low.)

The plant types around the site are single, only willow, maple, reed and evergreen street trees can be seen everywhere.
—Most of the land and roads here are planned in the form of diagonal lines, with "solid" lookouts and "dashed" steps dynamically delineating the terrain.
Opportunities
—Most of the sightseeing area is outdoor space, and the project increases the indoor space area to provide enough space for rest and viewing.
—Add infrastructure for the site, make the function of the scenic spot more perfect and attract tourists.
—Riching plant species, making site more beautiful.
—Speaking up for blind people is conducive to social thinking and protecting the rights and interests of special groups.

The whole design is inspired by the "wind chimes". Wind chimes are made of thick metal sheets and round metal tubes that collide with each other in the wind to make a pleasant sound. enlarged the sheet metal into a square box with a frosted acrylic shell and filled it with objects that carry memories of the visually impaired. This special wind chimes symbolize their imagination of sound and their desire for beauty.
