The Benefits of Enjoying a Warm Relaxing Bath Do you take many baths? If not then now may be the time to start thinking about how a bath can improve your life. In order to make the most of the experience there are a few things that you can do. How to Enjoy Your Bath The first thing that you should do before taking a bath is to make sure that the environment is relaxing and easy on the eye. You may not have the money or the time to re-decorate the room, but there are still things that you can do to instantly make the room more relaxing. Start by clearing out any clutter and ensure that there will be no distractions.
8
One thing that many women don’t get right when they take a bath is it’s temperature. There’s a tendency to have hot baths rather than warm ones. The problem with this is that hot water can actually stimulate you, rather than help you to relax. So try making your bath a little cooler if you usually tend to have a hot one instead. Add bath salts or bubble bath to create a nice scent. Also light candles or listen to soothing music. This enhances the experience and really helps you to relax. If you take at least one bath per week it will help to lower your stress levels, give you a little ‘Me’ time and it will help you to sleep better too.

Financial News
BeverleyMag APRIL 2014
Do you know what your credit score is? You may not have checked your credit score lately, but there’s a good chance someone else has. Whether you’re arranging a mortgage on your next home or buying that new sofa on interest free credit, someone has accessed that magic three-digit number that determines if and how much you can borrow.
10
A credit score is more than just a number in the eyes of a prospective lender. It’s a measure of a person’s financial reputation and the determining factor on whether they will lend and what they will charge. A credit score answers this question for the lender: What is the likelihood that this person will pay his or her bills on time? A high score means a person is likely to pay bills on time; the lower the score, the more likely a person is to miss payments. We’d like to think that it’s a human being accessing our credit score, deciding our borrowing capacity and creditworthiness, but in reality the majority of decisions are made by computers! So to avoid the misery of “the computer say’s no”, understanding, protecting and improving your credit score has never been more important. Here are some tips to help you do just that.
Understanding your score: l The majority of a person’s credit score—thirtyfive percent—is determined by whether they pay their bills on time; missed payments can be very detrimental. l Outstanding balances are next, making up thirty percent of the score. The lower the balance-to-limit ratio, the better the score, so don’t max out on your credit cards; A card at it’s limit is worse than two that are at half the limit. l Fifteen per cent of a score considers account age; Older accounts are better than younger accounts.
The type and mix of credit makes up ten percent of a score. The healthier the mix of credit, the better the score. l The number of enquiries from creditors into a person’s score also constitutes ten percent and multiple credit searches can damage your score.
Improving your score: l Make sure all your debts are registered to your correct name and current address to avoid missing important correspondence from the lender. l Ensure there are no mistakes on your credit file. Tackle the credit provider to resolve these quickly if there are. l Register on the electoral roll, so that your history can easily be tracked.
Protecting your score: l Avoid making too many applications for credit in a short period. Watch out for companies that credit score you unexpectedly. Opening a new bank account or even taking a car insurance quote may trigger a credit search, so check before you apply. l Apply for credit only where you have a good chance of being accepted. Read the eligibility criteria. For example if the product says it will not accept those with County Court Judgments within the last 12 months, then avoid applying if you have a CCJ within the last 12 months. l When applying for a large loan, such as a mortgage, seek advice from a professional broker to ensure that you meet the lenders criteria, which is often not advertised. l Make sure all of your debts are paid by direct debit. This creates an automatic payment and avoids late payment issues around dates such as bank holidays. l If you change your address update everyone and make sure that you have a post redirect until it’s done. NUTRITION: Top Five Tips
1. Fill up on vegetables Vegetables are a low calorie/high volume food. This means you can eat a lot of vegetables without consuming a lot of unwanted calories and you will feel full because they take up a lot of room in your stomach. When eating vegetables, avoid adding sauces and oil, which will add more total calories to your meal. Aim for fresh or steamed vegetables when possible. 2. Take it easy on the fruit While fruit is a great source of fiber and natural sugar, some people tend to go overboard and eat too much. In turn, this keeps sugar and carbohydrate intake sky high. Rather than ditching fruit all together, try pairing one piece of fruit with almond butter, nuts or a source of lean protein.
18
3. Be wary of nutrition/protein bars While the marketing on most of these products claim these bars are the healthy alternative, most of these bars are high in fat, carbohydrates and artificial preservatives. Some of
BeverleyMag APRIL 2014 these health bars also pack a similar nutritional punch as a traditional candy bar. Do not be fooled! Read the label and check out what is really going into these products. 4. Up the protein If you feel like you are constantly hungry, try adding a bit more protein to your meals. Ttry eating the protein portion of your meals before having the side items which are higher in carbohydrates and fat. 5. Drink more water Water aids your body in digestion and keeps your skin looking youthful and hydrated. On days where you are training or outdoors for a period of time, be sure to consume extra water. Drinking 12 ounces of water before your meal will also fill up your stomach and may prevent you from overeating. Try incorporating a few of these nutrition tips into your daily routine. Small changes can add up to great health benefits on the long run. Take care of your body now in order to prepare for a healthier future!

Business News
BeverleyMag APRIL 2014
Distribution & Courier Business Keeps On Growing Browns Distribution are proud to announce their move to new, larger premises in Hull within the next month.
Browns Distribution is the brainchild of owner Rob Brown. He saw that there was a gap in the market and set up Browns Leaflet Distribution back in 2003.
It is very much a family run business with Rob’s wife Debbie and daughter Danielle organizing and overseeing all the administration and Rob’s two son’s, Kai and Lewis being very much involved in the courier side of the business and organizing their large warehouse.
Over the past 11 years Browns Leaflet Distribution has built up an excellent reputation that is trusted across the East Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire region. Long standing clients include Hull City Council, Hull Truck Theatre, The Hull Daily Mail and of course Beverley Mag and HullMag.
With a team of 15 fully insured, uniformed and fully supervised leaflet distributors, they reach over 10,000 homes per day, delivering leaflets, flyers and magazines to homes and businesses across the local area. Come rain or shine, the team work hard to make sure that their clients advertising information is delivered to where it needs to be at the right time! The forthcoming move to larger premises has meant that the business can now offer new services, which include a local express parcel and urgent same day mail delivery services. The new services will be available for both trade and public. Rob said “We aim to pick up your item and have it delivered within two hours, Monday to Friday 8am to 6pm”. Each Friday Rob runs his ‘Friday Tenner Day’. Just check out the company’s facebook page to see where they are delivering that day, if it is in your local area you could receive a £10 note posted through your door!

The Importance of Regular Vaccinations There are lots of nasty diseases that your pets can catch. Vaccinations are the best way to protect your cat or dog from some of the worst ones.
21 of 2 injections given 4 weeks apart for dogs and 3 weeks apart for cats.
Vets4Pets Beverley is locally owned by Veterinary Surgeon Mary Bridge BVetMed BA MRCVS, Mary says “As well as helping sick pets, we work with owners on pet healthcare advice. This includes helping pet owners choose the right flea and worming treatment and vaccinations – which are an important part in keeping pets healthy and happy.”
After the primary vaccination course, your pet will then need to be vaccinated every year to keep up the protection against the diseases. This is often called a booster vaccination as it boosts your pet’s immunity. It is not necessary to vaccinate against every disease every year, but all pets require a vaccination against at least some diseases every year. Your vet will choose a protocol in line with your pet’s health, local disease prevalence, and the most up to date professional guidelines.
Regular vaccinations are an important way of keeping your pet healthy and protected against several nasty diseases such as the Parvovirus for dogs and Leukaemia for cats. As with human health, it’s often easier to prevent your pet picking up these diseases than it is to treat them.
Mary continues “At Vets4Pets Beverley we like to work with local pet owners to encourage preventative health care. Your cat or dog will receive a full health-assessment at every vaccination appointment. We carry out a thorough head to paw assessment and answer any questions you may have.”
Mary adds “Vaccinations help to protect against nasty diseases that can be life threatening and sometimes people don’t realise that pet vaccines need repeating every year to remain effective.”
The surgery is well equipped with modern medical and surgical facilities, ample on site free car parking and a friendly pet loving team who look forward to meeting you and your loved ones.
For puppies and kittens (puppies can be vaccinated from 7 weeks old and kittens 9 weeks old) or dogs and cats who haven’t been vaccinated in the last year, they will need a primary vaccination course to get their protection started. This primary course consists

Technology
BACK UP OR GO HOME! No matter how good we are and how well we look after things, disaster can strike – and when it affects your computer data it can be crippling.
A recent survey showed that over 70% of small firms who suffered a complete data loss went out of business within 2 years of the event. Here’s how you become one of the 30% who can retrieve their data – no matter what hits them! There are a number of great online backup services available that make the process a real no brainer - Dropbox, Google Drive and Skydrive come to mind immediately. But for price and features you can’t beat the new offering from Logmein.com . Their new offering is called Cubby [www. cubby.com] and has some advantages for the novice user. First off you don’t need to change the way you work – Cubby adapts to you, not the other way around – you simply indicate which folders on your computer you want backing up and cubby does the rest, automatically. Next, it works completely in the background – you don’t need to remember to move files to a special backup folder or manually start a process at regular intervals – as long as your machine is on – it’s backing up! Finally you do get 5GB of storage for free – that’s a lot of space for the
BeverleyMag APRIL 2014 average user, unless of course you have masses of video and music files, in which case you can buy a massive 100gb of storage for around £3 a month – cheap as chips for all that peace of mind! Just one word of caution – if you use Outlook to deal with your email you will need to backup the outlook.pst file to save your data – find it by doing a search for *.pst on your computer – then get cubby to back up the folder where it’s located. And remember Outlook needs to be turned off for the file to be backed up properly. Don’t forget, the hard drive in a computer is a mechanical device – it’s not a question of if it will fail – it’s a question of when! Happy Googling! ‘The First Couple of British Country’
Mean Mary
“Mean” Mary James is about as opposite from her nickname as a person can get: she’s sweet, kind, patient, easygoing, and upbeat. The 33-year-old singer was born in Alabama and has lived in Florida and Minnesota before calling Nashville home. And at an age where most kids were content to tumble through childhood, Mary was busy on a much different path, releasing her first album at the age of 6. I would encourage everyone to visit her website to read the remarkable story of her background, career, struggles and accomplishments, and what she’s going to be bringing to Beverley in just a few weeks time.
Mary always tries to present a unique show each place she plays, and Beverley is no exception.
The Red Dirt Skinners (Rob and Sarah Skinner) met in 2009 and instantly found both a musical and romantic connection! Seen early on in their career as a duo by Lisa-Marie Presley, who was extremely impressed by their harmonies, the couple have also worked with Paulo Nutini, Stan Webb’s Chicken Shack, Tommy Castro, and Bad Manners and have shared a stage with many others on the Blues and Country circuits. Rarely will you see two people more comfortable on stage than the Skinners. Their live shows have been described (by R2 magazine) as “House-wreckingly good!”, and also as “refreshingly different” and “beyond perfection”.
When&Where:
Friday 2nd May. At Beverley Arms Hotel in the Westwood Room. Doors 7.30pm Tickets are £8 and are available from Beverley Tourist Information and also Molescroft News.

Goodbye to Common Sense!!! OBITUARY
Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as: Knowing when to come in out of the rain; Why the early bird gets the worm; Life isn’t always fair; And maybe it was my fault. Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don’t spend more than you can earn) and reliable strategies (adults, not children, are in charge). His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a 6-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition. Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job that they themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly children. It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer sun lotion or an aspirin to a 30 student; but could not inform parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion. Common Sense lost the will to live as the churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims. Common Sense took a beating when you couldn’t defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar could sue you for assault. Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realise that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap, launched a lawsuit and was promptly awarded a huge settlement. Common Sense was preceded in death by..... his parents, Truth and Trust, his wife, Discretion, his daughter, Responsibility, and by his son, Reason. He is survived by his 5 stepbrothers; I Know My Rights I Want It Now Someone Else Is To Blame I’m A Victim Pay me for Doing Nothing Not many attended his funeral because so few realised he was gone.
