How does one create that “Hollywood glow” in their own bathroom? Before makeup application, I like to use a gentle exfoliant to get rid of any dead skin cells and then top with a hydrating moisturizer. For makeup, it’s all about layering. I love to apply highlighter under foundation. It gives the skin an ethereal glow. I’m obsessed with our new shades of Lit Up. Nectar is a warm peach and Brulee is a luminous bronze gold. Glide it onto cheeks, cheekbones, cupid’s bow and tear ducts. Next sweep, Vital Skin Foundation over any areas that need correcting. I like to use two shades to mimic the real tones of our skin, a lighter one under the eyes and t-zone and a darker one around the perimeter. For any little spots, I like to dab Vital Skin on which our Spot Check Brush. For overall warmth, sweep Beauty Butter Bronzer in a horizontal motion over the areas of the face that naturally catch the sun. The horizontal motion creates a more natural, sun-kissed look. What’s the first thing on your mind when you open your eyes in the morning? More often than not it’s your mailbox, followed by an Instagram scroll, followed by a Zoom call, followed by numerous messages, followed by phone chats. Recent studies show that modern lifestyle poses significant threat to our overall health: polluted air in big cities, continuous stress and electronic deviceinduced blue light promote excessive free radical formation and oxidative stress; all of which don’t only influence our immune systems, but – as recent studies show – also our skin. Decades ago the main source of blue light, a high-energy, short-wavelength light, was exposure to the sun, but recently (and especially during the “working from home” pandemic) screen time largely adds to the pot. Together with environmental and lifestyle stressors, blue light causes everything from brown spots and hyperpigmentation to wrinkles, loss of elasticity and premature aging. Fight plan? Sufficient antioxidant intake, partially from food (colourful vegetables and fruits are a great choice), partially from high-quality supplements and partially by applying topical products that will help you protect your largest organ and fight those free radicals, one day at the time. Some of the most known forms of antioxidants are vitamin C, vitamin E, green tea and vitamin B3, also known as niacinamide, which is particularly skin-restorative and helps brighten the complexion, reduce redness, fight acne and shrink the pores. Some of the other – perhaps less known – antioxidants include Actinidia Polygama (also known as Silver Vine, which has been used for centuries in Asian medicine to increase moisture of the skin, inhibit melanin synthesis and protect the skin from the inside), zinc and Superoxide Dismutase, SOD, which is effectively used to fight environmental aggressors and bring the skin back into balance. Ten years from now you’ll be glad you did.
