Niche is based out of Salt Lake City, Utah, and since 2009 has been dedicated to providing the global snowboard community with a quality product whose environmental impact is lessened by thoughtful design, conscious material selection and the desire to craft quality snowboards. We believe snowboarding and creativity go hand-in-hand, and are passionate about making boards that are lighter, snappier and more durable than most traditionally constructed decks. At Niche Snowboards, we’ve changed the way we think about the relationships between our materials, our environment, and ourselves. We firmly believe that small steps, when multiplied by many people, can change the world. Bottom line, what makes us different is our passion for quality, good design, and making the most environmentally conscious snowboards in the industry. We’re certainly not perfect, but we continually strive to be better, and hope our success will inspire change in the snowsports industry and lead to good things for you and the planet we all share.
The Eyes of the Future are looking back at us and they are praying for us to see beyond our own time. - Terry Tempest Williams
THE MOTHERSHIP Ma de p r oudl y in Au st ri a. The smallest of decisions we make on a daily basis matter. At Niche Snowboards, our goal from day one has been to create quality snowboards using environmentally conscious materials and manufacturing practices. We are honored to have partnered with The Mothership: the most environmentally friendly and advanced snowboard factory on the planet. 100% Hydro Powered: The Mothership is directly connected to the river Gail, which provides 100% of the energy used for heating and cooling of the facility, as well as the energy for production. ZERO CO2 Emissions: By using the NH3 natural gas heating system, for every 1 unit of energy consumed by the system, 5 units of energy for heating and cooling is achieved. 98% L ocally S ourced M aterials: By using regional ground travel instead of obtaining materials from every corner of the globe to be shipped back out again, less energy is used, less emissions are released, and local businesses are supported.
We feel that this partnership is a match made in heaven, and are beyond thrilled to have found a home with like-minded, passionate people, who share our desire to make choices that lessen our impacts on the planet and preserve the climate we need in order to enjoy snowboarding. Working with The Mothership will give us the ability to continue pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in snowboard manufacturing, and we are excited to see what we can accomplish, together. We are all connected, and we hope to bring you even better products, made proudly in Austria.
RECYCLAMINE ® Wo r l d ’ s f i r st tr ue ze r o-wa s te s nowbo ard man u f act u ri n g. Niche Snowboards is excited to announce the first 100% fully recyclable snowboard manufacturing, allowing all manufacturing waste and the product itself to be recycled and repurposed for reuse at the end of its product life cycle. We have teamed up with Connora Technology and Entropy Resins to apply their Recyclamine® technology into our existing bio-resins to create game-changing new products. By using the Recyclamine® system, it is possible to harvest all the raw materials from snowboard manufacturing to be repurposed or recycled . Recyclamine® curing agents are the only epoxy hardeners available that enable full recyclability of thermosetting epoxy resins. This technology provides chemical resistance and mechanical properties similar to conventional, non-recyclable aminecured epoxies. Flexibility, toughness, and low temperature properties are equal or superior to conventional epoxies. The use of this revolutionary technology provides an end of life solution for snow sports products, and for the waste created during the manufacturing process. The resins within the snowboard can be dissolved and broken apart using a top-secret solution, enabling us to harvest all virgin structural components and materials. These materials can then be recycled, repurposed or upcycled to create other new products like surfboard fins, binding components, or an unlimited array of possibilities. We are currently working on creating thoughtful collaborations within the snowsports industry, and look forward to working together to create better manufacturing solutins for us all.
MATER DIGI-PRINT TOPSHEET Most snowboard makers cover their topsheets in a thick, toxic lacquer to add shine. This is not only toxic to the environment; it’s unhealthy for people working in the factory. Digi-Print uses a lacquer-free topsheet material that’s also thinner than most snowboard topsheets. This cuts down on excess material and makes your board lighter. We digitally print directly onto the topsheet, cutting up to 60% of the material and 75% of the energy wasted during alternate printing processes.
SNAPPY SAP™ BIO RESIN Traditional resins can be extremely toxic to people and the environment. For our snowboards, we partnered with Entropy Resins to create our one-of-a-kind, Snappy Sap™ BioResin. As opposed to traditional epoxies made primarily of petroleumbased materials, Snappy Sap™ BioResin is composed of bio-renewable materials from the industrial waste streams of the paper pulp and biofuels industry. These natural components help the environment by: • 45% material sourced from sustainable, bio-renewable materials • Lower environmental impact from processing – reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, reduced water and energy consumption, reduced wastes • Eliminates harmful byproducts Snowboard benefits:
WATER-BASED INKS Niche uses non-toxic, solvent-free, uv-based inks for printing graphics on all snowboard production.
4
• Increased elasticity – provides more pop and spring to your board • Super high adhesion properties help keep your board from delaminating! • Toughness – combined these benefits make your board bomb proof
BASALT MAGMA FIBER The majority of the snowboard industry uses fiberglass in board construction. We have eliminated fiberglass in several of our models, replacing it with Magma Fiber™ crafted from basalt. Basalt is the product of volcanic activity. The fiberization process is more environmentally safe than that of glass fiber; the greenhouse gases that might otherwise be released during fiber processing were released eons ago during the magma eruption. Basalt is also 100% inert, which means it has no toxic reaction with air or water, and is noncombustible. And basalt is much easier to recycle than glass. • Our Magma Fiber shows 15-20% higher tensile strength than regular fiberglass. This means better impact absorption, strength, and elasticity. • Because basalt has a greater strength to weight ratio, less is needed to produce a snowboard. And less material means a lighter board! • Basalt does not absorb water. So if you chip your topsheet jibbing some gnar, your board will not absorb water and delaminate!
RIALS FLAX STRINGERS
SUSTAINABLE WOOD CORES
RECYCLED MATERIALS
Stringers are strips of material that change the personality of a board (i.e. giving a board more pop or more stiffness), and are typically made of carbon fiber or another type of wood. Niche has developed a totally new stringer technology using Flax Fibers!
The forests that our wood cores come from are managed carefully to meet the social, economic, ecological, cultural and spiritual needs of current and future generations. Our wood cores also come from a sustainable source, which means they are replaced by new trees!
Niche uses recycled materials in many components of our snowboard design and production. Such components used in our boards include:
Carbon uses lots of energy to process and releases half of its weight in CO2 and other pollutants when manufactured. Flax is an awesome eco-substitute! Flax stringers provide similar characteristics to carbon fiber, only they’re made from flax! They are strong, lightweight, and provide amazing vibration dampening characteristics, giving you a less chattery ride.
Here are some other requirements of our forest management:
Niche also utilizes basalt stringers for added pop, stability, and crazy vibration dampening properties.
• Recycled Steel Edges • Recycled ABS Sidewalls
• No use of hazardous chemicals • No conversion of forests or any other natural habitat • Appropriate management and identification of areas that need special protection (ex. cultural or sacred sites, habitats of endangered animals or plants) • Respect of international workers rights and Human Rights, with particular attention to indigenous peoples
BASALT STRINGERS
• Recycled Base Material
• All applicable laws must be followed, with no tolerance for corrupt or questionable business practices
RE CYCLAMINE ® Products using our revolutionary Recyclamine® resin system are able to be fully recycled at the end of their life span and all associated manufacturing waste will be reclaimed and upcycled into new products!

What we are doing to the forests of the world is but a mirror reflection of what we are doing to ourselves and to one another. 1
What an irony it is that these living beings whose shade we sit in, whose fruit we eat, whose limbs we climb, whose roots we water, to whom most of us rarely give a second thought, are so poorly understood. We need to come, as soon as possible, to a profound understanding and appreciation for trees and forests and the vital role they play, for they are among our best allies in the uncertain future that is unfolding. 2

The artwork on the Sonnet was created by artist Zosia Olenska, and was intended to highlight the smallest, most wondrous beauty that exists in our world’s forests. Forests cover 31% of the land area on our planet. Many of the world’s most threatened and endangered animals live in forests, and 1.6 billion people rely on benefits forests offer, including oxygen, food, fresh water, clothing, traditional medicine and shelter. But forests around the world are under threat from deforestation, jeopardizing these benefits. Deforestation comes in many forms, including fires, clear-cutting for agriculture, ranching and development, unsustainable logging for timber, and degradation due to climate change. Some 46-58 thousand square miles of forest are lost each year—equivalent to 48 football fields every minute. If the current rate of deforestation continues, it will take less than 100 years to destroy all the rainforests on the earth. In 1 year, an acre of healthy, mature trees can store 6 tons of CO 2 and release 4 tons of oxygen. That’s enough to meet the annual needs of 18 people! It can also absorb the amount of CO 2 produced by driving a car 26,000 miles. That’s the approximate distance it takes to drive from Los Angeles to Washington, D.C., and back 10 times.

You’ve asked me what the lobster is weaving there with his golden feet? I reply, the ocean knows this. You question me about the wicked tusk of the narwhal, and I reply by describing how the sea unicorn with the harpoon in it dies. - Pablo Neruda
The graphic on the Minx was created by French artist Sophie LÊcuyer. It was created using extremely old printing and illustration techniques; etching and mono-printing. Currently, narwhals are a species of special concern in Canada and near threatened internationally. They also happen to be one of the most sensitive Arctic marine mammals to climate change. The dramatic temperature swings caused by climate change not only lead to sea ice loss but also flash freezing. In some cases, a herd of narwhals will come up for air through tunnels in the ice, only to have the tunnels freeze shut behind them. The narwhals become stranded and are at a higher risk of being hunted by humans for their prized tusks. As the ice continues to melt, human presence increases. This means more hunting and development in the narwhal’s habitat, along with more boat activity as shipping and oil exploration increase.

In that great journey of the stars through space About the mighty, all-directing Sun, The pallid, faithful Moon, has been the one Companion of the Earth. Her tender face, Pale with the swift, keen purpose of that race, Which at Time’s natal hour was first begun, Shines ever on her lover as they run And lights his orbit with her silvery smile. Sometimes such passionate love doth in her rise, Down from her beaten path she softly slips, And with her mantle veils the Sun’s bold eyes, Then in the gloaming finds her lover’s lips. “‘But people are oceans’ she shrugged. ‘You cannot know them by their surface.’” - Beau Taplin
The graphic on the Theme was created by French artist Sophie Lécuyer. It was created using extremely old printing and illustration techniques; etching and mono-printing. Around the world, coral reefs are feeling the impacts of global warming. Persistently rising ocean temperatures have triggered coral bleaching events on a scale never seen before. When a coral bleaches, it is not dead. Corals can survive a bleaching event, but they are under more stress and are subject to death. In 2005, the U.S. lost half of its coral reefs in the Caribbean in one year due to a massive bleaching event. The 2005 event was greater than the previous 20 years combined. Researchers identified the first global bleaching event in 1998, which was followed by another in 2010. A third mass bleaching episode that began in 2014, continued until about June of 2017. The new phenomenon of global coral bleaching events is caused by ocean warming (93% of climate change heat is absorbed by the ocean). Although reefs represent less than 0.1 percent of the world’s ocean floor, they help support approximately 25% of all marine species. As a result, the livelihoods of 500 million people and income worth over $30 billion are at stake.

But public agencies are woefully and perennially underfunded, and the lands they manage suffer from overuse and neglect. How can we share these lands between the various interests who demand conf licting ideas of best use? Who moderates the contentious power plays that arise from groups vying for rights to extract resources like coal, oil and gas, or who desire the land to be used to recreate, to ride bikes, to rock climb or camp? Who decides how these lands should be managed to better factor in to the public’s health and well-being?” Kate Ferguson, Action Utah Issue Captain
