SHIMPEI TAKEDA Shimpei Takeda was born in Japan but has lived in New York City since 2002. His work focuses on cameraless photographic to capture otherwise unseen interaction of materials and light.


TRACE “As an artist working with analog photographic techniques that are rapidly in decline and a native of Japan, I took on a mission to create a physical record of the worst man-made nuclear accident in history.� Using photographic material and dirt from various location(12 total) near Fukushima, Japan Takeda wanted to create a direct and physical documentation of the disaster.

Salt Terrain is another series of cameraless photo works. Createdby placing salt and water on photographic paper. Then exposed by flashing light over top of the material creating shadows and barely visible textures.
