URBAN INTERVENTION IDEAS
02
HOK HIJA / URBAN COMPACT HOTEL / ACADEMIC PROJECT The idea of the hotel revolve around visual. From the site analysis, the site proposed has a lot of negative view which is the shophouse backlane, abandoned bookstore, and old cemetery. Therefore, the the proposal is to turn the site from negative to postive by introducing something good for everyone, pleasant to see, welcoming and all of these criteria combine together as one which is a good view. Good view gives positive good experience. Often, visual is related to mental and physical health. Natural elements like greeneries and open area make people feel good. As society we suffer from nature deficit disorder.
Sectional perspective
Thus, a courtyard is created as to make my hotel a good view to the site and furthermore studies shown that spending mindful time outdoors can reduce stress level and strengthen immune system. The hotel is designed with the public and private space clearly defined. In relation to the site context. the courtyard opened towards the abandoned bookstore and the hotel parking facing the cemetery The hotel space is planned so that there is a visual connection between all the levels. By introducing skylights and courtyard, visual connection and social interaction is encouraged for the guests.
