TOUCH OF NATURE FEMALE JUVENILE REHABILITATION CENTER SUMMER 2013 MAKANDA, ILLINOIS
THE PROJECT WAS TO DESIGN A MINIMUM SECURITY LEVEL REHABILITATION CENTER FOR FEMALE JUVENILES. THE LOCATION OF THE PROJECT WAS PLACED IN THE TOUCH OF NATURE CENTER WHERE THERE ARE TWO CHILDREN’S CAMPS ALREADY LOCATED. THIS MEANT THAT EXTRA PRECAUTIONS HAD TO BE TAKEN TO SEPARATE THE REHABILITATION FACILITY FROM THE CAMPS. THE FACILITY IS INTENDED AS A PLACE FOR ANY YOUNG FEMALE THAT HAS ALREADY BEEN IN THE JUVENILE DETENTION SYSTEM TO UPGRADE TO THIS FACILITY AS A REWARD AND TO HELP THEM GET READY FOR WHEN THEY ARE RELEASED FROM THE JUVENILE SYSTEM.

GRAND RAPIDS RIVERSIDE HOTEL AND HOSTEL FALL 2013 GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN
THE MASTERPLAN OF THE AREA REQUIRES A HOTEL TO BE PLACED ON THE SITE. DUE TO THE LARGE AMOUNT OF HOTELS THAT ARE ALREADY IN PLACE JUST NORTH OF THE PROPOSED SITE, A HOSTEL WOULD BE SOMETHING DIFFERENT FOR PEOPLE TO ENJOY. THE NEWLY DESIGNED BUILDING WILL ENCOMPASS BOTH A HOTEL AND A HOSTEL WHICH WILL GIVE THE VISITORS AN OPTION OF HOW THEY WOULD LIKE TO ENJOY THEIR EXPERIENCE AND ATMOSPHERE IN GRAND RAPIDS.

CURRENT HOTELS IN THE AREA
HOTEL VS. HOSTEL -HOTELS PROVIDE PRIVATE SPACES FOR PEOPLE BY GIVING EVERYONE THEIR OWN ROOM. -HOSTELS HAVE A DORM ENVIRONMENT WHERE STRANGERS WILL STAY IN THE SAME ROOM. -HOSTELS ENCOURAGE INTERACTION BETWEEN THEIR GUESTS AND IT CREATES A SOCIAL ATMOSPHERE AND EXPERIENCE. -HOTELS ARE MORE LUXORIOUS AND COST MORE WHEREAS HOSTELS WERE MEANT FOR YOUNG TRAVELERS WHO DON’T WANT TO SPEND A LOT ON A PLACE TO SLEEP

PHOENIX LIGHT: THE CORUSCATE MUSEUM PHOENIX, ARIZONA THESIS SPRING AND SUMMER 2014
17
THE CORUSCATE MUSEUM WAS DESIGNED TO FEED THE NEED FOR MORE ENTERTAINMENT IN THE DOWNTOWN AREA OF PHOENIX, ARIZONA. THE CITY HAS BECOME MORE AND MORE POPULAR AND IS CURRENTLY THE SIXTH LARGEST CITY IN AMERICA. AS COMPANIES AND PEOPLE MOVE TO THE CITY FROM PLACES LIKE CALIFORNIA, THE INCREASE IN LIVING SPACES HAS ALSO INCREASED DOWNTOWN. EVEN THOUGH RESIDENTIAL HAS GROWN IN THE CENTER OF THE CITY, THERE ARE ONLY CHILDREN’S MUSEUMS LOCATED DOWNTOWN. THE CORUSCATE MUSEUM IS A PLACE FOR ANY AGE AND IT ADAPTS TO THE PLACES NEARBY. ASIDE FROM THE MUSEUM, IT HAS A CAFÉ A BAR AND GRILL, A GIFT SHOP AND AN AUTOMATED PARKING GARAGE TO FIT THE NEED FOR THE BUILDING AND THE EXISTING PARKING SPACES PRIOR TO THE BUILDING OF THE STRUCTURE.
