1. The pianist has the choice to perform this piece while down on one knee. We suggest moving the piano bench aside, kneeling on the left knee while allowing the right foot to depress the damper pedal throughout. 2. The performer may exercise freedom of rhythm, tempo, and dynamics within each unmeasured phrase. Since our paraphrase of this melody can be recognizable without the white keys, the performer may wish to refer to the rhythmic structure of the national anthem on occasion. 3.
