Revolutionary Pain Relief Technology Now Available For Home Use

A

research programme was launched by Russia in the 1970’s with the aim of producing a truly space-age piece of pain-relief technology for use by Russian cosmonauts. It needed to be effective, versatile and easy to operate in space. What they came up with is now known as SCENAR technology. It works by transmitting electrical impulses – modelled on endogenous nerve impulses – through the skin. This would mimic the nervous system’s natural impulses, thus stimulating the adaptive powers of the nervous system to use its own healing abilities and remove the need for allopathic drugs. 30 years have since passed and the SCENAR (Self-Controlled Neuro-Adaptive Regulator) has developed into an indispensable tool for hospitals and serious therapists and practitioners worldwide. Unlike some other energy medicine therapies (such as TENS machines), each SCENAR impulse is different from the last, thereby preventing the body from adapting to the signal. Now, in 2008, for the first time, SCENAR technology is available to you for home use. The Pain Genie is the latest application of this incredible development in pain treatment and is set to become a vital inclusion in any home first-aid kit.

t the Centre for Integrated Health one of our goals is to inform as many people as possible about just how simple it can be to move from feeling bad to feeling good. Whether you are experiencing fatigue, pain, stress or a major chronic condition, we know that if you are committed to moving to a state of good health, there’s a very strong chance we can make it happen for you. At heart, this is largely a process of reminding people what they always knew. The body intuitively knows how to be healthy, but sometimes, strangely, it forgets. Just as the mind forms habits under stress that don’t contribute to happiness, the body can adopt habits that don’t support good health. Our treatment programmes work to steer a gentle course back to good health from the inside out, using a combination of dietary changes, nutritional support, detoxification, lifestyle change and through gaining insight into the disease and healing process. For over 10 years, we’ve been taking a great deal of pride and pleasure from seeing so many people leaving feeling healthier and happier, having let go of years and sometimes decades of feeling below par. The flipside of this satisfaction is frustration at seeing just how much misinformation there is about health in the public domain. Endless exhortations to use synthetic drugs to suppress symptoms; presumptions that particular diseases are incurable; as well as a readiness to encourage treatments that create irreversible changes in the body by artificial means, when gentler methods could have been applied. Page 2

Our own NHS, laudable idea that it is, tends to perpetuate this cycle: the busier doctors become, the less opportunity there is to take the time to discover what the individual patient’s needs truly are. The focus becomes merely on how to deliver a menu of pre-defined interventions more efficiently or faster, without spending much time working out why it became necessary in the first place. The pharmaceutical industry is another major factor in undermining intelligent health care. To an integrative practitioner, the idea that a skin inflammation would be treated with a steroid cream would be the stuff of nightmares. The same goes for treating chronic headaches with a daily dose of Nurofen, long-term depression with Prozac, or persistent acid indigestion with something to neutralise acid (thereby encouraging the body to make more!). Unfortunately, the pattern with this approach to treating health issues tends to be the appearance of new and more serious symptoms months or years later. Here at the Centre we recognise that ill-health starts on the inside, and that’s where we must look for a cure and develop vibrant good health. Whether you come to the Centre or not, we strongly urge you to place this idea at the heart of your approach to health.

eatrice was not happy with the intolerable symptoms of menopause that she was experiencing. She was spending a fortune on supplements that she thought, or had been advised, would help; but they did not appear to have any positive effect. With Hormone Replacement Therapy on the cards, she decided it was worth trying a natural, bio-energetic approach at The Centre For Integrated Health. She came in with complaints of hot sweats, sleeping problems, anxiety, tiredness, dizziness, and feeling bloated. Beatrice had also become a stone overweight. The bio-energetic screening and consultation provided us with the information required to set an effective course of treatment. Certain nutritional deficiencies, a problem in her liver, and a number of lifestyle factors contributing to her symptoms were identified. Our experienced practitioner prescribed a course of treatment, combining small lifestyle changes, homeopathy, herbal medicines and the use of dietary supplements – all tailored specifically to her needs to treat the health challenges at their root. Swiftly, Beatrice began experiencing greater energy levels, and her hot sweats and dizziness were gone. She lost her excess weight and is now enjoying a much better overall quality of life while this natural stage in her life occurs: “Thank you for your attention and support. I am feeling much better. I even ran/ walked a cross-country marathon last week!”

NutriVital Supplement Profile:NutriVital Vitamin C with Bioflavanoids

Vital for a healthy immune system (as well as skin, bones and muscles) and resistance to infections. It can also slow down free radicals (which accelerate aging) and lower cholesterol levels and high blood pressure. It is made by almost every other mammal except humans and because it cannot be stored in the body the vitamin C we gain from our foods is very quickly lost. Vitamin C and Bioflavanoids occur naturally together in nature The bioflavanoids increase bioavailability and are particularly important in maintaining good condition of blood vessels. Page 23

lowly but surely, over the course of 18 months, Lucy, 38, had experienced weight-gain (16lbs) and other symptoms including low energy, lethargy and brain-fog. Having visited her doctor on two occasions, she was none-the-wiser so chalked it up to time catching up with her. But, as she found both her work and her personal life were suffering, she took action and visited The Centre For Integrated Health. With the aid of the latest bio-energetic screening technology, Lucy’s practitioner found that she had a slightly under-active thyroid, absorption issues due to antibiotic use, adrenal stress and dehydration. In addition, although her diet was very good, some fine-tuning was required. Lucy’s course of treatment included probiotics (to improve her absorption and general digestion); NutriVital vitamin B complex and vitamin C to help increase her energy, decrease adrenal stress and balance her hormones; an homeopathic complex for her thyroid; and a gentle herbal liver cleanse. Other steps included mild improvements in some areas of her diet and an increase of water consumption. Two months after her initial consultation, Lucy visited for a follow-up. “I feel much more alive… my friends have all commented on the weight I’ve lost… which only goes to make me happier!” All of her symptoms had cleared up: she was thrilled to have lost a stone, she had loads of energy and could think clearly again. Page 22

From The practitioners She looked wonderful and she too had noticed a huge improvement in her hair and skin. Symptoms like these can feed off one another and before a person knows it, they can find themselves depressed, overweight, and suffering needlessly. Call The Centre For Integrated Health now on 01730 233 414 to find out what we can do for you.

NutriVital Supplement Profile:NutriVital Vitamin B Complex

Many B vitamins are required to support the nervous system and these can easily become depleted when the body is stressed either emotionally or physically. They work synergistically and are required for the release of energy from food, and proper function of the heart, nervous system and muscles, as well as being vital for the maintenance of healthy skin, hair, and nails. B6 in particular is extremely important for hormonal balance, fatty acid metabolism, fluid balance, and the production of stomach acid. It can also help a person keep a clear head.

Can Tanning Be Good For Your Health? R

esearchers from the European Institute of Oncology in Milan, Italy, and the International Agency for Research on Cancer in Lyon, France, recently reviewed 18 trials of more than 57,000 people and found that Vitamin D supplements may lower your risk of dying from any cause! Researchers from the Moore’s Cancer Center at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) concluded that increasing the intake of vitamin D3 throughout the world could easily prevent diseases – including 16 types of cancer – that would otherwise claim close to 1 million lives each year worldwide. And how do we increase the levels of Vitamin D in the body? By getting in the sun! Did you know… Vitamin D is known to positively influence: • • • • • • • • •

Page 4

Cancer Heart disease Peripheral Artery Disease Diabetes Inflammatory Bowel Disease Rheumatoid Arthritis Multiple Sclerosis Osteoporosis Uptake of calcium (bone health)

Real Life Cases: Living With Chronic Pain?

Won’t Tanning Age Me? In the light of all the benefits that sun exposure and Vitamin D can bring a person, the anti-tanning lobby has not done us any favours. It has, of course, lined the pockets of the companies that produce lotions and cosmetics. The only risks of UVB radiation come from overexposure (burning). The recommendation to never go out in the sun without wearing sunscreen is simply misguided advice. Slathering on sunscreen will effectively shield you from the sun’s inherent health benefits, so your body will not synthesize vitamin D properly. It’s also important to remember that you can develop sun damage even with sunscreen. Sunscreens don’t stop the damage from occurring at a cellular level, they simply stop the burn and generally include toxins that put your health at risk.

i

This study is one of the first that seems to confirm a benefit on mortality from supplements rather than just sun exposure. But without a doubt, the best way to increase your body’s levels of Vitamin D is through sun exposure on bare skin. Whereas it’s possible to overdose on Vitamin D supplements (you can get a blood test from a doctor), there is very little risk of overdose of Vitamin D from the sun. Supplements also contain the inferior Vitamin D2 rather than D3. Natural Health Magazine

omething had gone wrong for Laura while she was performing a perfectly normal physical task: pulling a baggage trolley at an airport. She suddenly developed an agonizing pain in her back and in her right leg. The pain had not subsided two weeks later, so she paid a visit to her doctor. Numerous injections were administered and eventually she was put on a waiting list for an operation, with prescribed painkillers to tide her over. When she first visited The Centre for Integrated Health, Laura’s pain was so severe that she could not walk unassisted. She was consulted and scanned in order to identify any root problems that may have seen her pre-disposed to the injury. She also received treatment on the SCENAR machine – an electrical device that stimulates the nervous system, designed and used by Russian Cosmonauts. The pain relief she experienced from our treatment was so significant, that she walked unassisted out of her first treatment at The Centre, smiling. After her follow-up appointment and second treatment, Laura’s condition had improved so much that she was no longer in any pain at all! Her consultant even sent a letter thanking Elizabeth, our clinic director for taking a patient off the operation waiting list. Pain can negatively impact all of life’s activities: working, socialising, sleeping, exercising, and even simply enjoying life itself. Unfortunately, many people believe that it’s a normal thing to live with.

aving moved to the UK from New Zealand 3 years ago, Deborah had developed an increasing number of inexplicable allergies. Soon it became very difficult for her to juggle all of the “stay away from…” instructions, and she found herself developing the symptoms of asthma. Deborah decided it was time to visit The Centre for Integrated Health. A fully comprehensive bioenergetic health screening and consultation identified a number of factors. Deborah had developed intolerance to a number of phenolics (not foods themselves, but natural chemicals that are found in all foods, giving them their taste, colour and smell); a number of insensitivities to environmental factors (particularly Diesel); and a level of poisoning due to her mercury fillings. A natural course of treatment was prescribed, including herbal remedies, minerals, phenolic compounds, a smart eating plan and a visit to a Cranial Osteopath. By treating the challenge at its roots – rather than simply recommending a reaction to the symptoms – Deborah’s symptoms had cleared up completely within 4 months. “I’m now back on top form,” she said, “thanks to the help The Centre offered!” Allergies and the avoidance of allergens can be incapacitating and severely (unnecessarily) disruptive. Asthma can be dangerous. Call The Centre For Integrated Health on 01730 233 414 to find out what steps you can take to identify and treat the challenges at their root.

NutriVital Supplement Profile: NutriVital EPS Phenolic

Phenolics are natural organic chemicals that are responsible for the colours, smells and tastes we sense. They also act as triggers for many allergic reactions and similar health symptoms. Working much like a vaccination, NutriVital EPS is a mild phenolic compound, prescribed to naturally and gently treat environmental pollution sensitivities at their root, spelling the end of symptoms of reaction to fumes, smoke, and seasonal and household allergens. • The more antioxidants you take in, the lower your risk of sunburn. Foods containing effective antioxidants to boost your “internal sunscreen” include whole fresh vegetables and fruits such as: Goji berries (not the juice) Raspberries Blackberries Blueberries • Vitamins A and C help your cells regulate both light absorption and protection against overexposure. • At the beginning of the season, limit your exposure to perhaps as little as 10 minutes a day. Progressively increase your time in the sun so that in a few weeks, you will be able to have normal sun exposure with little risk of skin cancer. • Time of Day – Early morning is the best time to sunbathe if you have not already built up a base tan, because you’re less likely to burn. In addition, it’s best to sunbathe when the temperature is not too high, so that you don’t over heat. • Regular sun is extremely important. You can’t cram all of your sun exposure into a two or three week vacation period and expect to experience the benefits… and it’s safer not to try! Frequent, short bursts are best. • Exposure of the face and hands to sunlight is not sufficient for vitamin D nutrition. For optimal benefit, strive to have at least 40 percent of your skin uncovered. • Optimal Exposure Time – in Caucasian skin, equilibrium occurs within 20 minutes of ultraviolet exposure. It can take 3 to 6 times longer for darkly pigmented skin to reach the equilibrium concentration of skin vitamin D. Remember that continuing UV exposure beyond the minimal dose required to produce skin redness will not increase your vitamin D production any further. With any luck, this article will have cleared up some of the confusion around sun exposure, its risks and its benefits. So get out there and start enjoying the sunshine! Deficiencies in any nutrients can lead to serious health challenges. If you wish to speak with one of the consultants at The Centre For Integrated Health about your nutrient intake, don’t hesitate to call on 01730 233 414.

The Hidden Dangers Of Low Calorie Diets B

ad news for anybody who has been guided by food manufacturers to lose weight: foods and beverages that contain no-calorie artificial sweeteners may be ruining your ability to control your food intake and body weight! Psychologists at Purdue University’s Ingestive Behavior Research Center found that rats that ate yogurt sweetened with the zero-calorie artificial sweetener saccharin consumed more calories and gained more fat weight than rats that ate yogurt sweetened with glucose. It’s thought that consuming artificial sweeteners breaks the connection between a sweet sensation and a high-calorie food, thereby changing your body’s ability to regulate intake. The researchers also measured the rats’ core body temperatures, which should rise after eating. They found that after eating a sweet, high-calorie meal, rats that ate saccharin had a lower rise in body temperature than rats that ate glucose. The researchers believe that this not only adds to the problem of overeating, but it makes it harder to burn fat afterwards. So it would seem that artificially sweetened food is not the answer if you are trying to lose weight! They are even worse news if you are at all health-conscious.

Follow this simple route to relief 1 Breathing from the abdomen. From your abdomen breath deeply so plenty of

Take aspartame for instance: • The phenylalanine in aspartame dissociates from the ester bond and increases dopamine levels in your brain. This distorts your serotonin/ dopamine balance, which can lead to depression, migraine headaches, and brain tumours. • The aspartic acid in aspartame is a well-documented excitotoxin. Excitotoxins are usually amino acids, such as glutamate and aspartate. These special amino acids cause particular brain cells to become excessively excited, to the point they will quickly die. Excitotoxins can also cause a loss of brain synapses and connecting fibers. • The ester bond in aspartame is broken down to formaldehyde and methanol, which have their own toxicities. So it is not surprising that this popular artificial sweetener has also been found to cause cancer. What is suprising is that it’s legal! So what can you do to kick the habit of artificially sweetened foods and lose weight? If you consume a lot of diet foods and beverages, it’s probably because you have sweet cravings. And the chances are that they came about because you are not providing your body with the fuels it requires. Natural Health Magazine

oxygen is available to your body and brain. This will fill the body and brain with energy, release spinal tension and permit the central nervous system to relax, resulting in more alertness and better digestion.

2 Exhale from the mouth. When all the air has been expelled from our lungs, our breathing gets deeper, which has the effect of neutralising stale energy, allowing the body and brain to relax. Spread your arms out and back. This brings energy into your chest, which then

3 continues through the rest of your body, and on to the brain, revitalising it. If you

spend too long at your desk, your shoulders and neck stiffen up, preventing energy from reaching your head and the rest of your body.

4 Stretch your neck. Sit upright as though the top of your head was being pulled up

by string, with your arms relaxed by your sides. Slowly tilt your ear toward your shoulder and hold for a few seconds. Then slowly return to the neutral position before tilting the other way. Finally, from the neutral position, tuck your chin down into your chest.

5 Cross your arms in front of you, resting each hand on the opposite shoulder. Sitting upright in the neutral position, slowly rotate your torso to the left and hold for two seconds; then back through neutral, to the right for a hold of 2 seconds.

6 From a standing position with your arms at your sides, slowly bring the arms up

in an arch to above your head. Stretch up with your fingers and go onto your toes – reach as high as you can and hold for four seconds before slowly returning to the start position.

There you have it – repeat as desired, as often as you like. Also, remember to leave your workstation when you can! Get up and wander around periodically, maybe stepping outside for some fresh air – it may seem like time not working, but you will be much more productive upon your return. Additionally, if you are working on something that can easily be done from a different desk or room, re-locate! Natural Health Magazine

Exercise: The Key To Relieving Mental Stress At Work T

he synergistic nature of the mind-body link is irrefutable. Improvements in one are followed by improvements in the other; the deterioration of one is invariably the downfall of the other. Regular moderate physical exercise is not only proven to lead to chemical changes that promote happiness; but there is now an abundance of evidence of the profound effect is has on the risk of serious illness. Not to mention new research which has proven antiaging properties of exercise! In a world where long working days with short breaks, long meetings, and days on end sat in front of a computer are the status quo, giving your physical health the attention it deserves has never seemed so hard, but it has never been so necessary!

Any steps you can take to integrate some kind of physical health program into your schedule will pay dividends immediately in terms of how you feel, look and perform; and results will last! Is it really that hard to get started? Natural health consultants at The Centre For Integrated Health recommend the following to ensure success: • Start today. Get started now and each time your allotted time for exercise arrives, get going without hesitation – the hardest bit is getting going. • Fit it into your schedule in a time and manner that will allow it to become habit. • Set realistic goals and expectations so that you can enjoy long-term success! (Think The Tortoise And The Hare!) • Find a range of different activities that suit your tastes – exercise comes in many forms, so do look around and be creative! Although nothing can replace moderate physical exercise a few times a week, The Centre For Integrated Health has devised a simple “do it at your desk” program to help relieve mental stress and ease physical tension, while generating vitality and mental stamina for long periods of clear and creative thinking.

Do you ever wonder how the French seem to dine on cheese, pate, pastries and wine without getting fat? A new Cornell study has cleared the mystery behind this in a study of Parisians and Chicagoans. Researchers found that while the French use internal cues (such as no longer feeling hungry) to stop eating, Americans use external cues (such as whether their plate is empty, whether their beverage has run out and whether their TV program is over). The study found that the heavier a person is, the more they rely on external cues to tell them to stop eating, and the less they rely on whether they feel full. Over time, the researchers concluded, instead of relying on external cues, using your body’s internal cues to tell you when to stop eating may improve your eating patterns. Another major factor in all of this is leptin resistance. Leptin is a hormone that tells your brain how much energy your body has stored, and whether or not it’s full. Once full, one of leptin’s functions is to reduce your appetite and start burning fat. How do you become leptin resistant? By eating a diet full of sugar, refined grains, and processed foods. The typical French diet (although it is changing now) has been one of fairly natural, whole foods.

Natural Health Magazine

What can we take from all of this? The key to losing weight and getting better results from your eating will be in changing your eating habits. The connection between our brains and our bodies is much more powerful than we give it credit for. So first, start listening to your body: • Is it actually hungry? • Is it full? • What would you really like to eat? • Enjoy your food – eat consciously. • How did eating what you just ate make you feel? The next step would be getting the most from the food you eat. This means cutting out low-calorie options, cutting out sugar and refined grains, and eating as much from fresh, whole, and unprocessed foods as possible. Sticking to these basic principles will not only help you lose weight, but you will soon find that you’re feeling happier, healthier and more energetic all the time! If you would like to discuss any of the issues in this article or would like to book an appointment with a consultant at The Centre For Integrated Health to create a smart-eating plan tailored to your body’s requirements, just call on 01730 233 414.

A Letter From Elizabeth Scremin, Clinical Director of NutriVital Health.

Dear Readers,

I

’m delighted to tell you that NutriVital has been extremely busy spreading our healthcare philosophies and techniques beyond the shores of the UK, throughout Europe. We have now developed a partnership with a fantastic clinic in Portugal and I have been training practitioners in Slovakia. So busy have our activities in Europe been that we are setting up a base over there. As of August, NutriVital will have an office and a new clinic in Barcelona. I will still be in our Petersfield base 11 days out of each month, and will always be reachable over the internet. Not only does it mean so much to me that we are gaining the opportunity to spread what we do across the world, but it also means I am coming into contact with more leading experts in the field of natural health and finding – promisingly – that what we have been doing at The Centre For Integrated Health has been ahead of the curve. The critical point that differentiates the approach that we take is the understanding that a person’s total health is the result of their unique interaction of body and mind (including inherited traits, physical condition and personality) and environment (including home, work, diet, relationships and many other factors). To find an effective cure, one must understand the root causes for an individual situation. The body gives you all the information you need to do this. Health is like an onion skin, and it reveals itself in layers. Some symptoms make themselves very obvious all the time; others come and go; others are very subtle. With education and well-tuned awareness, we should all be able to observe and make sense of these signals and so alter our behaviour and consumption patterns. We can then assist the body gently and naturally to develop and maintain good health. At NutriVital Health, our approach is to act as catalyst for this, whether it’s for a specific health challenge; to generally increase levels of well-being and vitality; or as a preventative measure. I look forward with great anticipation to continuing to share this approach and the results it yields with you and other clients at our Petersfield base and our London clinic, while sharing our approach with the rest of Europe!

NutriVital Acidophilus Complex This is essential for anyone who wishes to generally feel better, anyone who has been taking anti-biotics, and for anyone who is going away on holiday or who’s digestive system may be having a hard time. The active ingredient here is Lactobacillus Acidophilus. It inhabits the intestines, protecting against some unhealthy organisms and helping decrease the frequency of candida and other yeast infections. Additionally, because it consumes nutrients many other microorganisms depend on, it also out-competes harmful bacteria in the digestive tract. Other health benefits include improved gastrointestinal function, and a boosted immune system (80% of our immune system is in our digestive system!)

Feel Great This Summer W

ith the holiday season well underway, it’s important to ensure that you are functioning at your best. That’s why the consultants at The Centre For Integrated Health have recommended the following simple but effective additions to your daily health routine:

NutriVital Flax Seed Oil We are all becoming increasingly, aware of the need to get sufficient fatty acids in our diet. But consuming the appropriate amounts can be inconvenient, or – for those who do not like oily foods – unpleasant! Additionally, ingestion of a too high a proportion of Omega 6 fatty acids can inhibit the digestion of the all-important Omega 3’s.

Lignans (a group of chemical compounds found in plants, particularly in flax seed) may benefit the heart, possess anti-cancer properties and reduce growth in specific types of tumours. Flax seed may also benefit individuals with certain types of breast and prostate cancers. Flax may also lessen the severity of diabetes by stabilizing blood-sugar levels.

Flax Seed oil is the richest source of Omega 3 fatty acids yet known anywhere in the world. It also contains high levels of Omega 6 and 9 fatty acids, and lignans. Omega fatty acids are extremely important for hormone function, bone density and the skin. Omega 3 in particular has been shown to reduce inflammation and can lower cholesterol and triglyceride levels.

Page 16

Uncommon Knowledge – The Mind-Body Link With the vast – and growing – body of evidence linking psychological factors to physical well-being, we’re delighted that the integrative approach to healthcare is growing in popularity. An awareness of the holistic nature of health is the key to unlocking the power of preventative care; while in the treatment of health challenges, full consideration is vital to getting and staying well. Here are a just a few examples of recent scientific findings that demonstrate links with specific health challenges: Back Pain A study was performed on 100 patients, none of who suffered from any back pain at the onset of the study, over the course of four years. Participants in the study were required to take psychological tests and their spines were examined through the use of disc injections and MRI. Results from the study showed that those who did poorly on the psychological tests were three times more likely to report having experienced back pain. Flu 55 adult volunteers were injected with influenza A virus. Psychological tests were carried out, as well as measurements of the severity of their respiratory symptoms. The researchers found that volunteers who reported greater psychological stress before being inoculated responded to infection with more intense symptoms, greater mucous production, and higher concentrations of interleukin-6 in their nasal secretions.

Natural Health Magazine

Natural Health Magazine

Diabetes 2,000 adults between 50 and 74 years were asked about significant stressful life events in the past five years. Diabetes was diagnosed in 5% of people participating in the study and those with the highest number of stressful events (three or more) were 60% more likely to have diabetes as those with fewer stressful life events. Digestive system New UK research has linked emotional distress with changes in the nerve pathway that helps control gut function. They say the findings suggest a specific path through which psychological factors directly influence the digestive system. Additionally, the poorer a patient’s psychological well-being was, the lower her rectal blood flow. Other research showed that psychological therapy improves both emotional health and bowel function in patients with chronic constipation. Aging Recent data has now revealed that extended exposure to psychological stress could speed up the aging process of a person’s cells and cause them to die at a faster rate than normal. These findings prompted researchers to examine why these effects were happening from a molecular standpoint. Telomeres (the caps at the end of chromosomes that promote genetic stability) act as a timekeeper, communicating to the cells how long they would live. Women who reported the most stress had significantly shorter telomeres and less telomerase activity than a control group. Page 9

still find myself advising clients to have a spring liver cleanse and detox but as I look out of my window at the rain I realise that it is, in fact, now summer! Whatever the month, it’s always a good time to take a few steps toward this kind of cleansing. It just happens that with the long, hot days and summer holidays approaching – and plenty of good fresh food around – it’s a particularly good time to experience more energy, better moods and weight loss!

To this end, I always recommend: • Include some raw fruit and vegetables in your daily diet • On rising have a large glass of water with the juice of a lemon or lime • Support your liver with an herbal complex. NutriVital Gallium and NutriVital Milk Thistle are both powerful and gentle formulas. • Eat artichokes (a great raw addition to salad!), or drink artichoke juice • Include other liver-supporting foods such as broccoli, watercress, avocado, garlic, onions, beetroot, berries and radish

you give us an insight into Q.Can your approach and how it differs from traditional beauty treatments?

After the treatment we will discuss your lifestyle, address any specific health concerns, and analyse your diet.

an Holistic Beauty Therapist it’s Q.Why approach beauty in this way? A.As my job to give beauty treatments… health is reflected in how you but with much more than a person might A.Your look. Many people turn to creams, but expect from a traditional beauty centre or spa. I take a comprehensive approach to beauty, treating both from the inside and out. You will have all the benefits and relaxation that traditional approaches offer; but I will also work on helping the body heal itself and clear stress-factors.

I start with a neck and shoulder massage to help you relax, then give you an advanced facial treatment, using all natural products. Integrating Chinese medicine principles, I will administer a facial acupressure massage and a hand reflexology treatment to help clear any irregularities, toxins or blockages in the body. This process is also deeply relaxing.

these do not address the fundamental factors influencing your appearance. So, if they have any effect at all, it is neither profound nor lasting. Creams and lotions are also expensive and usually contain toxins and parabens. Looking young is also about how vibrant and radiant you look, which, again, comes from inside and lasts a lifetime.

Gone are the cravings for comfort food that the winter brings; and in comes the sunshine, the long days… and, of course, an abundance of fresh foods! Fresh fruit and vegetables are abundant in these summer months. There’s nothing like a cool, crisp salad on a hot day; and there’s not much more delicious – or good for you – than an home-made juice. All fresh organic produce has fantastic health benefits. For example, you can experiment with the following juices to ease health challenges: Insomnia

Dates/Figs, Lettuce, Passion Fruit, Celery

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

Artichoke, Tomato, Courgette

Poor Circulation

Carrot/Beet, Papaya/Mango, Raspberry

Dry Skin

Of course, these recipes are just suggestions. Pick out the fruit and veg’ that looks best and experiment with your own concoctions! Just keep in mind that with the exception of carrots and apples, it’s best not to mix fruit juice with vegetable juice. Natural Health Magazine
