FLAGSHIP CULTURE HOUSE

PHASE 1: Detecting Cultural Hotspots Ringön today is an area heavily influenced on car-based services and nearly outdated industry. Nevertheless its closeness to the centralstation and the heart of Gothenburg and the connection to the waterfront along the main “Boulevard” add intensly to its charme. When approaching an appropriate solution for a Culture House in Ringön, the first phase has to be to find and understand the importance and influence of Ringöns cultural hotspots today. PHASE 2: Embracing the Crossroads A Culture House for a diverse place like Ringön has to take the ongoing cultural processes in account and strenghten them with its presence and by setting a future-orienteted example. By emphasising the “cultural crossroads” at the final point of the Boulevard, where it serves an excellent view over the Götaälv towards Gothenburgs “Gasklockan”, the FLAGSHIP Culture House is the first step of establishing the base for a new Ringön connected by culture. PHASE 3: The Cultural Network By placing the FLAGSHIP Culture House at its very strategic site, it shapes the relation to former and continued cultural processes but mainly creates synergetic effects for places with cultural potential which haven´t been quiet as popular for the public yet. The new culture house will not only serve as a new point of attraction for whole Gothenburg but more importantly: it enriches the cultural seldependence and a culturely enriched environment.

FLAGSHIP RINGÖN VISION: “We are the culture.” “A culture house for Ringön needs to do especially one thing: start a movement. The transition of Ringön from industry to an area that adds its part to the quality of life for the people of Gothenburg has to be designed with care and empathy for the ongoing cultural processes. To strenghten these needs to be the way of naturally converting this industrial place towards an area with a focus on social sustainability. The FLAGSHIP Culture House Ringön places itself at the crossroads where the former train racks add a unique flair to the place. The FLAGSHIP embraces the public space around it by adding a new port to the rhythm of the existing piers and establishes itself at the head of the Boulevard to be seen as a point of orientating oneself on the cultural map of Ringön. This Culture House is a building of initative, empowering cultural activities and the heart for a Ringön that will show the rest of Gothenburg how much it has to offer.” Nick Chadde, May 2012
