Our resources are scarce - ‘Eco-living’ has been, and always will be a pursuit of the urban planners. While direct proposition is eminent, sometimes people are more acceptant to soft dose of ideas. ‘Awakening’ is perhaps a more efficient approach than ‘showcasing’. Apart from the displays and gadgets, the Architecture itself also act as an “exhibit” to the visitors. By adopting the essence of the natural element - CLOUD, unpredictable routing are brought upon the visitors’ journey. The visitors are to find their ways around the centre, re-trace, and have ‘seen but not been’ experience. All these are attempts to call for a memorable visit, rather than a typically mundane education.

The above elevation clearly shows the relationship of internal spaces (exhibition) and external spaces (viewing platform of nature) is separated by a perforated blurry layer of metal panel, meaning that the real essence of Ecoliving - Appreciation of Nature - can actually be uncovered from the trend of pursuing technology, and it is just depend on Awakening.

Exhibition Hall The exhibition hall demonstrated the pursuit of technology throughout almost all corners of the architectural space. This space not only showcases various exhibits related to Eco-living, but also exposed the architectural technology to visitors. The articulation of openings introduces skylight, which is directed to the inside and plays an important role in beautifying the exhibits as well as providing clue for the ultimate message of this visitor centre.
Hall of Spirit The Hall of Spirit is the main character of this visitor centre. It gives a contrasting effect against the surrounding exhibition halls. No matter is the circular spatial form or the fully use of concrete, it also gives visitors a dramatic and memorable experience when they repeatedly pass through.

Over years, our living environment has gone through two stages: natural growth and artificial development. However, our earth has been destroyed by mass construction and different kind of vigorous human pollution. It seems that we no longer remember and realize the relationship with the environment. To save the our earth, every one of us should rethink of the relationship of human vs nature, i.e. a NATURAL INTERACTION between our needs and supply from nature. To re-educate this sustainable idea, an Eco-Village is introduced in a reclaimed land surrounded by various residential high-rise development.

Just as any typical development in Hong Kong, this reclaimed land also bear undulating terrain. The fundamental idea of the Eco-Village is to minimize intervention to the natural environment, take advantage and hatch. On that note, the main passageway is set to cross the plain axis of the site. Habitants fetch from the ease of access - opportunities for various designated programmes to thrive as the terrain builds up are granted - successive microdevelopments are expected and overtime, mellow is the land adjacent to the main passageway, and new unexpected programmes would be generated.

Extrication can be explained through achieving a form by only unfolding a scored paper. It is about the freeness of oneself.
EXTRICATION vs UNFOLDING The concept of emptiness is to clean up our mind and to receive as much knowledge as possible, the model was just presenting a contradiction between seen and unseen. When you keep detaching the irregular shaped cardboard, you will find more of your own image can be reflected through the mirror underneath.
EMPTINESS vs DETACHING The main concept of the model is to show the possibilities of selecting a route. This possibility is governed by an unconscious cause and effect relationship. The model was just a simple presentation of growth of a tree. It shows that no matter how irregularly it grows, it is still governed by the nature logic.

Pattern of the City It is found that the site of the exhibition centre is sitting at a junction where the urban grid rotates. The building form hence take advantage from this specific site context, and turns into a rotating form.
Visual Linkage The access to the site is mainly brought from the shopping mall and metro station nearby. On the pedestrian walkway above the railway, people can clearly spotted the exhibition centre. Besides, it is also intended to continue the visual linkage into the exhibition centre through implementing a bridge from the other side of the site into the visitor centre.

Clue or Riddle In Buddhism, every living thing is actually undergoing a repetitive journey until achieving extrication. In showcasing this winding life journey, visual clue/ disturbance is set throughout the whole visiting experience, so as to increase the probability of route selection, and at the same time creating an unique journey for each visitor.

Integrated building considerations
Given that Central and the origin of the brand - New York share a similar fast paced lifestyle, making the DKNY Headquarters seamlessly merge into Central of Hong Kong. As a high-rise architecture situated in such a high density and air polluted atmosphere as well as to celebrate the brand attitude, the Headquarters tower aims to minimize the interference to the city, but to boost the capacity of a high-rise building to help the city. “Seven Easy Pieces�- the debut collection of DKNY in 1985, clearly demonstrated the soul of DKNY throughout years. These 7 handful interchangeable items work together, create an entire wardrobe that goes from day to evening, week day to weekend, season to season, fully shows the spirit of DKNY also lies strongly on flexibility.

Taking advantage of the rather short residential buildings on the other end, a wide range of view angle is evenly distributed through curving the other facade.

The oval shaped tower is being cut on the other side to create shorter exposure to low angle glare and keeping a large facade to south in order to benefit from its natural daylighting in winter.
Turning the 90 degree hard edged spaces (difficult for layout planning) on both side into a multi-level interchangeable vertical zone - “Seven Easy Pieces�.

The core situated at the junction of two fan shaped mass, connecting floors to floors, volume to volume, its all about bringing different sectors to work together.
