The past year has obviously been out of order and many things have been changed to better fit the current situation we are all in, though the 4-H members devotion to their projects have remained the same through the pandemic by working to impress with their life skills project, or trying to leave another buyer happy with their market project purchase. All members have the option of purchasing bridge insurance if required based on your slaughter choices. This insurance will protect both you and the member in the case of any unforeseen circumstances. As always, you have the choice to not use one of our processing options and make your own arrangements; this will be handled on a case-by-case basis. Please make every effort after the sale to pay for your animal as soon as possible. Meat will not not be released without payment, Cheques can be made payable to each member. ABOUT STEER Little Red is a red Angus-X steer. He was very timid when he first came to our place so I've spent quite a bit of time interacting with him so he'd be comfortable around people. I picked him as my market steer because of his great conformation and what I thought would be a good foundation for carrying his weight. He has grown into a beautiful market animal. He's not overly tall but he has a lot of depth though his midsection and hind quarters, so his weight is concentrated in the areas that provide the prime cuts.

ABOUT STEER Gilbert is an Simmental-X steer. One of the reasons I picked him was because he is quiet minded and has a gentle temperament. He has always been friendly and was pretty easy to teach to lead, groom and handle. I've been very pleased with his rate of gain and his condition. He has excellent depth through his body, a great rump as well as conditioning all over. He has a nice amount of fat which will help with the quality of the meat.

A B O U T E M I LY My name is Emily Hopp and I've been a member in 4H for 8 years, starting as a Cleaver. I've done sheep projects every year until this year and now am doing my first market steer project. One of the things I like about 4H is learning to speak in public and be able to get my thoughts across to others. I'm very thankful to all the parents, volunteers, judges and my fellow 4H members who've put so much into making this a great year. I've learned a lot about beef including how to care for them, groom and prepare them for sale.

ABOUT BRADEN My name is Braden Isley, I’m 16 years old and this is my 7th year in 4-H. I have a powerful steer project, beautiful heifer, a very sweet cow calf with a purebred bull calf at foot, and a fully welded table with drawer to match my last years project. I like playing football, riding dirt bikes, making cars go fast, and of course showing cattle. I’m so glad that we’re finally getting to show our animals and projects and cannot wait for the competition.

Braden Braden Isley Isley ABOUT STEER This is my steer huckleberry, he’s a purebred salers animal and is a very well built animal with lots of depth, power and presence, being the most dominant animal in the pen while always being the calmest. The process of halter training and maintaining his health has shown me that the only way to get him to run is by showing him a bucket of grain and some open pasture. I’m proud of him and so glad that he was such an easy animal to work with, and I hope that whoever’s freezer he packs full will be proud too.

ABOUT MARKET LAMB My market lamb is a Cheviot Dorset cross and I am really happy with how he has grown this year. He is very stubborn and this has proven frustrating for both parties involved. Regardless of our differences though, he still will reluctantly go on short runs with me to keep his figure slim.

He was really hard to train at first because he hates the halter and is too sturdy to push, but he has gotten a lot better over time, and now he walks really well.

ABOUT STEER My steer this year is named Willy, and Willy’s funky colouring perfectly matches his funky attitude. My steer’s dam is a simmental X and his sire is a maine anjou. Outside of school and 4-H, I also play ringette, and have been playing for 11 years, although not so much this year due to covid. I work at the Calgary Farmyard in the spring, summer, and fall, where I use many of the skills I’ve learned in 4-H such as leadership, and caring for animals. I am looking forward to attending Mount Royal in the fall, and hoping to become a nurse.

Lauren Winkler ABOUT MARKET LAMB My market lamb this year is named Swayze after Patrick Swayze, who are both known for their muscles and good looks. He is a Suffolk-Dorset cross, and has a very healthy appetite. He has averaged a very impressive rate of gain, and has muscular stature. He weighed 50 pounds when I purchased him, and is on track for a target weight of 120 pounds for sale day.
