As a veterinarian, it is evident that with the knowledge and information available today, selection and prevention are the best tools to ensure longevity and health which reflect as profit in the large animal/agriculture sector.
When
I first began working with the Anderson Bred Heifer crew it quickly became evident that there is no lack of strict selection, preventative care and health/suitability screening. From the day the heifers are selected they are scrutinized, combed over and judged on every aspect including some aspects that are often overlooked.
The heifers are also given a well rounded gold standard veterinary recommended health and vaccine protocol. They are evaluated and palpated prior to breeding for reproductive capability and any with questionable findings are immediately removed from the program. Again the timeline for breeding is strict so any that don’t meet the highest standard for reproductive success are removed. No expense is spared when it comes to setting these heifers up for successful growth, maximal health, workability and longevity.
What
I love seeing most, is when I check the heifers that became cows at their new farms, they are showered with compliments year after year. When you come to this sale, you will quickly realize the dedication, commitment to excellence, and true genuineness of the program. I am consistently impressed with these heifers, even years after we work on them for this sale.
Dr. Stacey Homer, DVM Poplar Grove Veterinary ServicesOn behalf of everyone here at McLeod Livestock, I’d like to welcome you to the ninth annual Anderson Bred Heifer sale. I have known Scott and his family for over 40 years and have followed this program since its inception. The one thing you can be assured of is that Scott’s commitment to quality is second to none. We are proud that Scott has selected our genetically designed Charolais heifer bulls to use in his Anderson Bred Heifer program that has developed into one of the elite commercial showcases of the year.
On behalf of Bullseye Feeds, it is a pleasure to be working with the great people at the Anderson Bred Heifer operation. The program continues to be a leader in the industry when developing and selling commercial bred heifers. Scott and his crew have one of the most reputable bred heifer sales in central Alberta, and the 2022 sale group is proof of the quality the program strives to produce.
The heifers selected for the sale have been on a full mineral program since selected as heifer calves. The heifers are backgrounded and developed on a growing ration where a macro premix is force fed to ensure proper micro minerals, and vitamins are consumed. Force feeding the premix daily ensures that every heifer is receiving the macro premix. The heifers then graze throughout the summer where they are provided with a high-quality pasture macro premix to ensure they continue to receive vitamin and minerals. Having the heifers on a year-round mineral program enhances the overall immunity and compliments the heifer’s overall growth and performance. The nutrition and development of the heifers along with the entire cow herd is continually being monitored to meet environmental and season conditions to compliment the animal’s over all health.
If you have any questions about the nutrition program, please feel free to contact me. Best of luck to the Anderson crew on sale day!
