Micro-Seismic Monitoring for Geothermal and Shale gas Developments As the UK’s energy production moves towards sustainable, de-carbonised methods, energy producers are increasingly being attracted to exploration and exploitation of non-conventional energy resources. In the UK non-conventional, typically, refers to the extraction of shale gas and the generation of geo-thermal energy. TerraDat’s expertise in these fields is twofold: not only can we assist with exploration and assessments of a particular resource thorough our conventional geophysical methodology, but we now offer a new, micro-seismic monitoring, service.

Building on TerraDat’s extensive seismic experience and utilising new 32-bit recorders and surface sensors, we are set up to monitor micro-seismic events before, during, and after drilling operations. The objective is to establish a robust baseline of data before resource development and subsequently deliver a constant monitoring service for geothermal and gas extraction prospects. The data are collected and sent real-time to the processing office where incident seismic events are assessed before any alerts are issued to the project stakeholders if preset thresholds are crossed.
