Principal and Superintendent’s MessageDr. Ed Kalinowski and Mike Howard Welcome back to Meadows Valley School. We ended last year with a flurry of assessments and an outstanding graduation. As a result of our continued effort to make this school progressive and leading edge, we demonstrated to the state our commitment to quality performance by the students and were awarded a ranking of FOUR STARS. Under the Idaho Five Star Ranking System, we were evaluated on Academic growth, Academic proficiency, participation and Postsecondary and Career readiness. The state defined Four and Five –Star schools as those who will be publically recognized and celebrated for their excellent performance as topperforming schools in Idaho. Our school will serve as an example to other schools. We are very proud that we accomplished this rating but we have a lot more work to do. There is no reason to sit back and assume that this is the best we can do. With your support, we can continue to strive for even higher goals. Like all schools in Idaho, we are challenged by new state standards. To meet these standards, we, you, and the students have to step-up to meet the challenge. The curriculum presented to the students will be more vigorous. The students will be expected to take advantage of learning opportunities and demonstrate a higher level of understanding. We need you to encourage your child to read, study, complete their homework and be ready for the next day’s challenges. To help them, we will be opening a special classroom from 3 pm – 4 pm Monday through Thursday for students who would like to study, complete their assignments or do their homework. It will be open to all grades and will be supervised. Please talk to your child about this opportunity and make arrangements as necessary. MVS has a quality facility and excellent teachers and staff. This year we added seven new teachers to our school. We are all revitalized and ready for this year’s challenges. We are proud of what we have accomplished and have a vision to strive to be even better. Our doors are always open and we hope if you have any available time you will stop by the school and share your ideas. School Supplies Thank You! Meadows Valley School would like to acknowledge and thank Becki Levi of New Meadows, and Lisha Levi of Boise, and the employees and patrons of the Flying M Coffee House in Boise for their generous donations of school supplies. Students were thrilled to find that any items they were missing were available to them on the first day of school. Becki and Lisha worked hard to try to fill our entire school supply list for all grades! If stu-

Erin Branstetter dents are in need of anything throughout the year they should go to the school counselor’s office to pick up supplies. This donation has been appreciated immensely in these hard economic times and means a lot to students and their families. Teachers and staff would also like to send out a heartfelt thank you, as this means students will come to class prepared and ready to learn.

After School Study Hall Available For Students After School Study Hall: After school study hall will be Monday through Thursday from 3:00-4:00. Study hall will be held in the Spanish/6th grade room. Rules and Expectations: This time will be available for ANY student who needs or wants a place to study for a test, complete homework with the use of computers and other materials needed, and if a student just needs a little extra guidance in any subject area. This will also be the place for Teacher Support as well. Like our “study lunch” program last year, teachers who have students that are falling behind on assignments may request that their students join study hall to complete their missing assignments. There will be Study Hall Request forms for teachers to hand out to specific students who need extra time to complete assignments following parent notifica-

tion from the teacher. Study Hall is NOT a punishment or Detention for students. It is designed as a support system for our school and all who occupy Meadows Valley. Study Hall will be a QUIET environment for students. This will not be a “social hour” for any individual. Food will NOT be allowed during this time. We need to leave the classroom as we enter it. Here at Meadows Valley School, our goal is to provide any type of support to ensure that your child, our students are always successful. You as a parent/guardian are always welcome to check out our programs and provide any feedback you deem necessary. Welcome back to school. Together we will have a successful year.

Spanish Club We welcome Mrs. Sierra to the Spanish Club. She will be the adviser. “Plan on singing songs, perhaps sharing food, organizing fundraisers, and having fun.” Her hopes for the club are that the members will learn more about the history, cultural of the Spanish world, current events, and more importantly have fun in doing so. Her plans

This would be a good place to insert a short paragraph about your organization. It might include the purpose of the organization, its mission, founding date, and a brief history. You could also include a brief list of the types of products, services, or programs your organization offers, the geographic area covered (for example, western U.S. or

European markets), and a profile of the types of customers or members served. It would also be useful to include a contact name for readers who want more information about the organization.

Back Page Story Headline This story can fit 175-225 words. If your newsletter is folded and mailed, this story will appear on the back. So, it’s a good idea to make it easy to read at a glance. A question and answer session is a good way to quickly capture the attention of readers. You can either compile questions that you’ve received since the last edition or you can summarize some generic questions that are frequently asked about your organization. A listing of names and titles of managers in your organization is a good way to give your newsletter a personal touch. If your organization is small, you may want to list the names of all employees. If you have any prices of standard products or services, you can include a listing of those here. You may want to refer your readers to any other forms of communication that you’ve created for your organization. You can also use this space to remind readers to mark their calendars for a regular event, such as a breakfast meeting for vendors every third Tuesday of the month, or a biannual charity auction. If space is available, this is a good place to insert a clip art image or some other graphic.
