Aim of Design Vision:
The site is designed to be a multi-functional public realm, where the surrounding area’s characteristics can be involved and used as design prograns. At such location, the site is expected to serve the majority of community in the whole Badgerys Creek area.
Scale Comparison
The site was chosen based on its size and urban context as well as location within proposed transportation system. The site is in the middle of existing agriculture land, and a proposed university campus and campus neighbourhood. Yet the site is currently ill-defined, and facing the threat of inefficient use as well as isolation from Prince Alfred Park: 7.5 hectares the surrounding areas, especially the connection between residential area and university. According to the scale comparison in Sydney region, the site has potential to serve the local community within whole Badgerys Creek area. In regional context, there is potential to recreate the space into a public realm that can involve surrounding areas’ characteristics and provide certain attraction for local community

Theoretical Framework This design project was inspired by the theory of everyday urbanism. A place can be meaningful when its physical configuration can meet the needs for human activities. The most efficient way to attract people to use a space is to provide the functions or contents of design to meet people’s daily requirements. This proposal creates a new public realm that will meet local communities’ everyday living requirement with better access and opportunityfor activities.

Design Process The concept of the design is the metaphor of ‘suture’. With an abstract needle of string, agriculture, education and community will be connected and combined, while meeting the aim of having everyday engagement with local residents in Badgerys Creek. Hence the design elements will be directly related to people’s general everyday living, including access, security, food, exercise and other social activities. The concept of ‘suture’ will also apply in a physical sense. A recreated access system will assure efficient and secured path for residents, and the design programs will be the key nodes along the route of travel. The design starts with the existing spatial opportunities. After marking the key portal points between each space, suture line is used to provide direct connection to the spaces. Within the site, there is another suture line to be a circuit loop. Along two types of suture line, the design programs, according to density of usage everyday, will be placed on the access system with consideration of site condition.

Farm market/ Cafe facility:
Timber paved seats with meadows and trees planted in the middle. The sides of the seats can form different chances of socialising. The future users can pick the side for different views or way to socialise.
The facility is used for both selling fresh product from the nearest community farm and outdoor cafe/store retails. The simple structure is flexible for multi-purpose usage, based on seasons change over a year time.

Suture Conclusion
The design can connect and combine different elements on site through the suture line (access system), filling the gap on group proposed master. In regional context, the area will be a new attraction, containing the design elements of agricultural, educational programs to meet the need of local communities’ everyday living requirement. With such public realms, the urban system will be activated by the open space, being involved in the pieces of moments in people’s everyday life.
