Lomo lovers has been created by two sisters who have a passion for lomography and want to share what’s out there to fellow lomographers.

We are creating monthly “inspiration books”. Different cameras, film, techniques and maybe some specialist features you name it, we just want to share it. We would like to thank everyone who has contributed to this issue, without you the book would be empty!

We have also got ourselves a blog where you can reference tips and tricks to make the most of your lomography at www.lomolovers.com This month we are focusing on sprocket holes. We love a good sprocket hole shot here at lomo lovers, they just bring another dimension to your shots!! So here’s some great submissions...

who are we?

we are two sisters from Buckinghamshire who have a passion for Lomography and vintage cameras. We both got our first cameras back in December 2010 and since then our collection has grown to over 40 between us. we love slide film and experimenting with different techniques, and we love being constantly surprised with the results that you just don’t get with digital photography. we are always inspired by the analogue community, and want to share this wonderful world with everyone.

that’s a tough one, but currently have a top 4! LC-W, LC-A+, Holga CFN and my limited ed cream Horizon Kompakt.

Like Nic, it’s hard, but would say my top ones are LC-Wide, Vivitar UWS, Sprocket Rocket or Diana F+.

a guide to techniques throughout the book we may highlight techniques of how the image was created here’s a rough guide to the terms

rats eye: this is where the camera is placed at ground level, it gives a great perspective and depth.

double exposure: one shot taken over the top of another usually using an mx button or finishing a roll, rewinding, then shooting on top.

home made redscale: take some colour film and put it in your camera the wrong way round, so you expose on the back of the film.

long exposure: using the bulb mode “B” you can create motion blurs. cross-processing: xpro for short. processing your film in the wrong chemicals gives your film more impact and saturated high contrast.

sprocket hole: modifying a medium format camera to use 35mm film, means you will have the image bleeding onto the sprocket holes.

coloured flash: get some coloured plastic gels, place one over the flash and experiment with colour.

panoramas: combining multiple shots of one subject to create one long overlapping image.

camera tossing: moving your camera or throw it in the air as you take the shot. giving a camera shake and motion blur.

microclicks: Overlapping, merging many exposures together so that they create a much more striking, fluid and cohesive panorama.

How long have you been into lomography / photography: Late 90’s I think. I can’t remember. I started off shooting an old Minolta SLR but wasn’t in to it in a big way. Moved to digital when the Canon IXUS came out (good series of compact digitals they were) and then got a DSLR and messed about for a few years until I met my wife, @golfpunkgirl, on Flickr and she totally sold me on the Lomo LCA - never looked back since :)

What cameras do you own: Pretty much all of the Lomography range plus a load of Canon A-Series SLRs and Polaroids, Holgas, etc

a bit about yourself: I am a recent father and am now faced with the challenge of documenting my daughters early years without boring the flickrverse or losing my artistic integrity. (did I just say that?)

lomolovers tipster: multi lens doubles

creating multi lens doubles Creating fantastic multi lens doubles is really simple to do with and multi lens camera (without wrecking your camera) . Here I used the pop9.

Materials you need: a pop9 or similar multi lensed camera some black electrical tape (cut into 1cm squares) colour gels a roll of film I used lomo 400 another 35mm camera For these shots I used a pop9 and the LC-Wide

1: mark your film First off load up your film. Quick tip: When you load your film mark where your first frame is with a permanent marker with an arrow pointing up, that way, when you load it into your second camera you should get a pretty good line up.

VERY IMPORTANT: Note that the Pop9 camera loads from right to left, so if you want to reload it into another 35mm camera that works the other way around then shoot your Pop9 roll upside down so everything comes out the right way up!

2: cover the lenses Next, cover up certain lenses at random with your squares of electrical tape making sure the tape covers the whole lens, but doesnâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t overlap onto the other lenses.

3: Start shooting!

Quick tip: Throughout your roll, reposition your covered lenses and try colour gels over the top when shooting to get blocks of colour like the shot below. (see next page)

4: end of the roll When you get to the end of your roll, wind back until you hear the little click of the leader releasing from the take up spool, this means that you will be able to reload your film into a different camera.

Even if you leave just the one hole uncovered you can get some interesting results! (see pg 66)

5: re-load Load your Pop9 roll into another 35mm camera and line up your film where you marked it previously to get the best out of your doubles. Then shoot through the roll. Once your roll is finished rewind and get it developed, mention to your lab not to cut the negatives (just in case you have overlap)

The possibilities are endless!
