CONCEPT We must engage in revolutionary exploration to find extraordinary solutions for the future and create spaces that enhance the surroundings, add value to the natural landscapes and stand the test of time. Instead of destroying nature to build infrastructure we must learn new innovative ways to design and use more environmentally friendly resources in order to create a cleaner & more sustainable planet.

THE INSPIRATION Lost and interconnected within nature, Falling Water is one of Frank Wrights famous designs and the exterior staircase placed above the water was the inspiration for this project “The Foyer. The concept is to design an internal staircase to interlink the interior and external environments with the natural surroundings.

THE STAIRCASE The stairs have nothing between each tread allowing for sounds, breezes and scents to flow in-between the anti-slip structural clear glass staircase that is cantilevered off a load bearing wall completely covered in living plants. The stairs are placed over a natural stream, similar to “Falling Water allowing for the plants to self-water themselves directly out of the stream below. Plants grow up the wall from the exterior which visually connects with the interior wall, this is highlighted by using glass for the stairs, all walls and the ceiling within the staircase to generate the feeling of being outside. The whole design is based around Frank Wrights philosophy of bringing the outdoors in.

THE FEATURES - Made mostly of natural elements including timber, stone, gold, living plants and environmentally friendly concrete, which creates zero carbon emissions. - Gold glazed window panels are used on all non-structural walls to reflect the sun and keep the inside cool because gold acts as an excellent reflector of electromagnetic radiation. - A structural stone wall with a pump operated running water feature. - Interlinked gold trimming on the floor and walls to create geometric patterns within the space. - An automatic grand piano plays harmonious music within the foyer. - Anti-slip clear glass stairs that cantilever off a load bearing wall covered in living plants
