EATING HABITS THAT WILL HELP YOU
DOMINATE THE WORKPLACE!
BY NICOLE CRAWFORD LIFEUPLIFTING.COM
Staying happy, motivated and energetic at work can be awfully tough, especially on a Monday Morning. It happens to us all.. migraines, back aches and maybe even boredom. In order to maintain a healthy lifestyle, many people push the fact that we must exercise regularly and get a great night's rest, but what about our eating habits? Everyone, yes even your boss, can maintain a great attitude and feel awesome throughout the day by eating certain foods that will not weigh them down. By making small, yet simple changes to your diet at work, you can see a huge difference in productivity as well as energy. After you conquer these new habits, feel free to pass them along to your associates so they can also dominate the workplace!

TIP #1
YOU MUST EAT BREAKFAST EVERY SINGLE MORNING. And... I am not talking about grabbing a donut on the way out of the house. Even if you are a morning person who is generally hungry in the a.m., eating breakfast takes your body out of sleep mode and into a energy driven state. I recommend a small glass of orange juice, protein shake, and or a banana in the morning, either or all is better than eating nothing at all.

TIP #2
STAY HYDRATED MY FRIENDS. Drinking water will help your body stay healthy by keeping transferring all of the nutrients from breakfast to your whole body. Keep in mind, as you grow dehydrated your blood thickens, which forces your heart to pump with difficulty, which in the end will make you tired and cranky as the workday comes to an end.

TIP #3
EASY ON THE COFFEE. As soon as the office opens, everyone heads for the coffee machine. Drinking 1 cup of coffee is great for energy but only if you had your fair share of water first. Much like unhealthy snacks, consuming too much coffee / caffeine at once will help you with a quick boost of energy but guarantees a productivity-harming crash later on. You may also counter the caffeine with a fresh cup of Green Tea, this will keep you going without the crash.

TIP #4
EAT SMALL, HEALTHY SNACKS. Eating small, healthy snacks throughout the day will help you stay on top of your game. If you wait for a huge lunch, your body’s blood sugar levels will dip excessively and when you finally eat, you are more likely to overeat, feel stuffed, and cause your blood sugar levels to go higher than normal. This up and down cycle in your blood sugar makes your energy levels crazy and completely unpredictable. By eating small, healthy snacks, you space out your body’s fuel supply so your body stays energized all day.

TIP #5
DO NOT PIG OUT AT LUNCH. If you want to stay productive at work all day, make sure the amount you eat at lunch is just right... Make sure you are not too full or still hungry. People have found themselves feeling very sluggish, moody and tired after eating a big meal. They also feel bloated and have alot of gas (burping and farting). You do not want to bring that into a huge meeting!

TIP #6
EAT FRUIT INSTEAD OF CANDY. Fruit contains fiber and natural sugars, which breakdown slower then sugars from the snack machine. Fruit is also easily digested by the body, so you don't feel sluggish after eating an apple. When you haven’t had anything to eat in a while, it’s best to reach for a piece of fruit to help get the body movin'.

TIP #7
BRING ON THE WHOLE GRAINS. When you eat carbs that your stomach breaks
down quickly, your blood sugar levels will rise,
which is always followed by a unwelcoming crash
and burn. Multi-grains take a little longer for your body to digest, which means the energy you gain from them is spread out over a particularly
lengthy amount of time. It is best to eat Grains as a mid-morning snack so it can pull you through lunch.

TIP #8
DO NOT EAT ALONE AT YOUR DESK FOR LUNCH. It is important that you stay active, work hard and last the entire day with energy and positivity.
Eating with a an associate will not only boost your social skills but it will boost your creativity as well.
People that tend to eat with a co-worker also tend to eat less because if the conversation gets
intense (in a good way) then you are actively
listening and or talking, rather than stuffing your face with food at your desk.

TIP #9
ONLY EAT OUT FOR LUNCH ONCE A WEEK. Bringing your lunch to work may get tedious at
times but it is definitely the healthy route to take. Think of Friday as a celebration / looking forward to the weekend day where you can reward
yourself by going out to eat with your co-workers. Make sure you eat slowly, pace yourself and eat a
reasonable amount of food (just in case you do go all out on the weekend).

TIP #10
SCHEDULE YOUR LUNCH FOR THE ENTIRE WEEK. To stay on track, try to go grocery shopping on a
Sunday and plan for the next week or two. With a plan, you will stay on budget, stay away from the bad foods and dominate the work week. Have a lunch meeting coming up? Where at? What will
you eat? It is good to have these plans ready so
when the temptation of bad food tries to attack, you are already a step ahead.

TIP #11
DO NOT GIVE IN TO OFFICE SNACKS (AKA DONUTS). Everyone has that one guy in the office that loves to bring donuts, muffins and more to the office when he is late or just trying to get on your
bosses’ good side. Do not give in to these foods
because they are unplanned. Unplanned, surprise junk foods will bring you down, make you feel
guilty and could even upset your stomach if you
have been on a good health binge the last couple of days / weeks.

TIP #12
IT’S GOOD TO GET UP AND WALK AROUND. After you eat your snack, it’s good to walk around and take a good 10-15 minute break. Walking or visiting co-workers will help your energy level and will also give your eyes a break from looking at the computer screen. You could pace yourself by eating a handful of your snack then getting up, take a walk, then repeating that pattern. It’s good, refreshing and your snacks will last longer, opposed to you devouring your snack by reaching into the bag with one hand and your other hand on the mouse clicking away.
