Freddie the yeti battles the dark

Freddie the Yeti Battles the Dark Freddie the yeti was a very lucky sasquatch. He had parents who loved him, a little sister he could pick on, and he had his best friend, Eddy. He also had a new house with a new room all to himself. Freddie only had one problem: He couldn't sleep at night because he was afraid of the dark. In the dark, anything could happen! He might find monsters under his bed, his toys might come to life, or he might even get abducted by aliens. And getting abducted by aliens was not the kind of adventure a little yeti like Freddie was looking for. On the first night in the new room in the new house, Freddie told his parents he couldn't sleep in his bed because he was sick to his stomach. He needed his mom to take care of him. So he slept cuddled up to his mom and dad that night. The next night, Freddie knew he couldn't use the same excuse. They'd never believe him! Freddie decided to ask his parents if his best friend, Eddy the yeti, could sleep over. His parents thought that was a wonderful idea. Freddie only had one problem: Eddy was afraid of the dark, too! But he always had his brave twin brother, Neddy, to protect him when the dark came. So when Freddie told Eddy that he was also afraid of the dark, neither of them could sleep! They huddled up in a corner of Freddie's room by themselves as the sky got darker and darker. Luckily, Freddie had an idea. “We'll turn the closet light on! he announced, proud of his genius idea. Eddy agreed, and they played rock, paper, scissors to see who would have to make the trek all the way to the closet in the dark to turn the light on. Freddie lost. Freddie crept silently along the walls until he could reach the light switch. He shut his

eyes and flicked it on as fast as he could. “You did it, Freddie!” Eddy proclaimed. “Now we can sleep!” Freddie and Eddy happily crawled into their beds, excited to dream about trains and trucks and playing hide-and-seek with the humans. But Freddie and Eddy only had one problem: They still couldn't sleep! It was way too bright in Freddie's room. Even when they closed their eyes they could see the light. “Oh, we're never going to sleep,” sighed Eddy. “Why can't we just be brave, courageous sasquatches like we're supposed to be?” That gave Freddie an idea. “Brave! That's it! We need to be brave and fight our fears.” “Okay,” said Eddy. “But how are we going to fight the dark?” “Well, the dark doesn't like the light,” replied Freddie, “so we'll use light to battle the dark!” Freddie and Eddy looked through Freddie's closet and found all his light-colored clothes to use as armor. They found flashlights, old light bulbs from Freddie's desk lamp, and glow-inthe-dark bouncy balls to use as weapons. They were ready to fight the dark. Freddie took a deep breath and turned the closet light off. “We're ready for you, dark!” he taunted. “Come out, come out, wherever you are!” challenged Eddy. But Freddie and Eddy only had one problem: The dark wasn't fighting back! Freddie and Eddy waited and waited. They looked around, confused. Then they looked at each other. “Eddy,” said Freddie, “Maybe the dark isn't fighting because there's nothing for it to fight with. Maybe it doesn't have armor or weapons like we do.” “Maybe you're right, Freddie,” Eddy thought aloud, “Maybe the dark isn't so scary after all.”

So they put all their armor away and they put all the flashlights, light bulbs, and glow-inthe-dark bouncy balls away. Then they crawled back into their beds and dreamed of trains, trucks, and hide-and-seek. THE END
