APERE OîVA KICKAPOO STATE PARK PROGRAM Provide permanent structures for overnight camping, as well as a gathering space that are accessible to all visitors.

DESIGN APPROACH “Apére Oîva” is a phrase in Guarani that refers to a journey that a person takes to get away from their everyday life, and go into nature, to learn from it, and to come back with different perspec ves. Apére Oîva proposes structures that have minimal architectural impact in the space, maintaining the emphasis of the beauty of Kickapoo State Park, and enhancing the experience offered to visitors. In my design, I proposed to add a water lock in between ponds in order for Kickapoo visitors to arrive to their cabins by kayaking or canoeing, adding to their journey and experience at the park.

PAWSON HOUSE BY JOHN PAWSON / Spring 2015 “Pawson’s minimalism is not a ma er of absence, for it lacks nothing; it is compressed, complex perfec on… [N]othing can be added or taken away. That is precisely when the minimum becomes the maximum…”

In 1992, Pawson integrated his design principles into his own house. Located in London, the Victorian style façade of the house was preserved, because the house is located in a historical district region with strict building codes that restricted Pawson to make many changes in the exterior. Pawson men oned that “[a] house must be autobiographical. It is the reflec on of who we are and who we want to be”. Media: Pencil and pen. 15in x 22in

“Evolu on of design ...from lines to 3-dimensional models, 9 squares was an introduc on to the complexity of design, and the importance of hand-dra ed deliverables. Media: Micro-pen and color. 18in x 24in

LOTUS HOUSE BY KENGO KUMA / Spring 2016 Kengo Kuma’s reinterpreta on of tradi onal Japanese architectural elements for the 21st century have innovated in uses of natural materials and light that enhances rather than dominates. His buildings do not a empt to fade into the surroundings, but instead manipulate tradi onal elements into statement architecture that has a connec on with its environment.

13

Located in Eastern Japan, next to a quiet riverside, deep mountains, it was considered to mend a state in which the nature and the building was melted together. The pond with lotus planƟng was designed to be a representaƟon of the other side of the forest. The configuraƟon of the building itself is based on absence and lightness. The large checkboard paƩern walls play a role in connecƟng the forest with the house. The material was selected to make the wall airy, such as blowing wind. The detail that make up the checkerboard-like porous paƩern, is 20cm × 60cm, hung in a flat bar of 8 × 16mm thin traverƟne plate of heat 30mm. The stone is intended to appear as light as the lotus’ petals.
