We are Amenity – and we believe in the power of who we are.
We believe we can adapt our way of life to be more in harmony with nature and the earth’s resources. We believe in creating things that resonate with our need to live in beauty and comfort. We believe objects that are made responsibly using organic or sustainable materials are inherently better objects.
We believe in purposeful, timeless beauty, not disposable trends. We believe beautiful things made in beautiful ways contribute to the well-being of everyone, and the overall well-being of our planet. We believe it is possible to change the world.
We believe in getting up early every once in a while to see the sunrise. We believe in growing your own food and sharing it with your neighbors. We believe in slowing down and taking it easy. We believe spontaneous dinner parties are always the most fun. We believe in quality of life. We believe in the power of good design. We believe in love. We believe honesty is always the best policy. We believe you can’t stop a good idea.
Amenity: something that brings comfort, convenience, or enjoyment.
To us, this means the comfort of well-designed products that are responsibly made. And it means products that resonate with our need to be surrounded by beauty and comfort.
Our beginnings We founded Amenity in 2004 to bring the beauty of nature and the style of good design into the home.
Our commitment to sustainability has always been a part of who we are.
At the very beginning, we focused on sustainable practices from selecting low-impact dyes to minimally processed fibers and local manufacturers.
We believe being sustainable is inherent in good design.
In 2007, we introduced our nursery collection made entirely from certified organic cotton fibers and low-impact dyes.
That same year we transitioned our entire home collection to certified organic cotton and sustainable fibers like hemp. We looked at every aspect of our collection and made additional changes like using pillow inserts filled with spun, regenerated plastic bottles.
There is power in being simple, sustainable AND beautiful.
In 2008, we introduced our Muir bed made from reclaimed woods and handcrafted by a local manufacturer. Accessories to this collection soon followed.
People love the way we look and feel.
In 2009, we created the Arroyo accessories collection made from FSC-certified walnut. Each piece is individually handcrafted by a local artisan woodworker.
We listen to what people want. With the success of our nursery collection, we asked what else new parents needed. Soon after, we created our newborn organics collection. Made from cozy, certified organic cotton fleece, it gives eco-conscious parents all the basics they need to care for a newborn.
And we know when to stop and pause.
2009 marked a monumental economic downturn. We took it as a great opportunity to step back and reexamine what Amenity means to us.
We realized what it’s all about. It’s about love. It’s about doing the right thing. And it’s about living beautifully.
We renewed our passion and brought a deeper meaning to the Amenity brand. We developed partnerships to support world artisans and created meaningful products we want for our own families, like our Amenity alpaca afghan.
Inspired by how we live, we added many new categories that bring function and beauty to our everyday lives.
As always, our designs are rooted in sustainability and created in harmony with nature’s resources.
And we realized something important. At Amenity, we only make what we believe in – sylish, sustainable objects that bring beauty and function to our daily lives.
And the future?
It looks beautiful.
