www.bayview.vic.edu.au Principal’s Message The beginning of each school year is an exciting time for staff and students. This is particularly so at Bayview this year as we celebrate the milestone of 130 Years of Christian Education on Bentinck Street. During our history this school community has focused on preparing students for their future roles in society; on developing a strong intellect and creative mind; on fostering a sound moral compass based on values that respect human dignity; and on encouraging a healthy and active lifestyle.

IN OTHER NEWS This week’s header photo This week’s header photo is of our Year 12 students who utilised their own time over the school holidays to refurbish their Common Room. Students have selected a bright colour and painted part of the wall in blackboard paint. L-R Brittany Stafford, Regina Punton & Dion Annett School Magazine Apologies for the delay of the school Magazine. We’ve been working very closely with our local printers to ensure the best quality magazine is distributed to the Bayview Community. Students should have received their copy of “Retro” on Monday. 2013 Year 12 students can ask their siblings to collect the magazine, come to Bayview to collect it personally or request it be sent through the mail.
Throughout our history the school has responded to the changing needs of the young people in our care through the practice of reflection and renewal. It is as true 130 years ago as it is today that in education “we touch the future”. Therefore as a school we are future focused and determined to provide our current students with the skills and attributes that they need. The staff at Bayview continuously engage in an ongoing process of collective inquiry and action research to achieve better results for the students we serve. In preparation for our students return we have been working collaboratively to develop new courses, to master new skills and design learning experiences for the students that are engaging, challenging and relevant. We are continuing to implement the National Curriculum and we are responding to the changing demands of the Senior Years VCE and VCAL certificates that are being designed by the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority. Over the school holiday period our IT network and infrastructure has been completely rebuilt. Over the coming weeks, as each stage of the rebuild comes online, our students and staff will experience improved connectivity and reliability which will enhance our learning environment. In 2013 Bayview participated in the suite of LEAD Surveys: Listen to our stakeholders, Evaluate what is said, Act on this knowledge and Deliver better outcomes. The surveys provide us with a better understanding of the experiences and views of our community. Over the last few weeks we have been looking at the data from the Students Survey, Parent Survey, Year 12 Exit Survey and Staff survey with a view to building on our strengths and improving our practice in the areas that are perceived to be of concern. Bayview last participated in the LEAD surveys in 2010 and it was affirming to see that overall there was increased satisfaction from all stakeholders on the measures of effective school performance. We welcome new students and families to the Bayview community and we look forward to getting to know them as the year progresses.
