The Wizard of Oz cast
Lord, bless our families with your gifts of love and forgiveness. From the Principal– Dr Michelle Kearney Life is a constant stream of choices. Some are more trivial than others…chocolate or vanilla ices cream? Others hold more significance. Regardless, each choice is a turn in our path. Every decision changes our lives, either for a few minutes or forever. While some choices lead to success, others can set us on a path to disappointment. The key is making the right choice. There are a couple of things that impact decision-making and can leave us feeling like we have made the ‘wrong’ choices in life. The first is a fear of failure. At times, we can put off making a decision because we don’t want to make the wrong one. When the reality is – there are no ‘wrong’ decisions. The Dalai Lama said “sometimes not getting what you want is a wonderful stroke of luck” We often ‘think’ we know what we want and what is right for us. It can be helpful though, to not get too ‘attached’ to an outcome as a result of a decision. Sometimes we make a decision and we don’t get what we originally ‘wanted’, but what we do get turns out to be better. Sometimes we over-think a choice. If we think too much about a decision it is possible to over-complicate it and end up more confused than when we started. And sometimes we have an internal conflict between our head and heart. We don’t want to be so ruled by our hearts that all logic goes out the window, yet we don’t want to only be ruled by the ‘facts’ because gut instinct is very powerful. Over the next few weeks our students will be making choices. Our Year 12 students are making decisions about the next stage of their life. Will they pursue Tertiary study? Take a Gap Year? Or seek fulltime work? Students at other year levels are choosing their subjects for 2014. Which electives will I choose? Will I continue LOTE? What areas of study am I most passionate about and wish to continue? In each case there is a plethora of options to choose from and the final decisions will be different for each young person. Our Subject Expo this week is an opportunity for students and parents to become more informed about the options before them. It is a time to speak with teachers, seek advice and engage in discussions. Along with our teaching staff, representatives from WESTVIC and South West TAFE will be available to talk with families about pathways. Year 12 students and their families will receive information in the next couple of weeks about the choosing Tertiary courses and the VTAC process and an invitation to an information night. These two information evenings are vital to assist the information gathering process that is so important when making decisions. “It is our choices that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.” J.K Rowling
