BAYVIEW Newsletter ISSUE 26 Monday 19 August 2013 www.bayview.vic.edu.au Lord, have mercy on those who live through warfare or violence.

From the Principal– Dr Michelle Kearney At this time of the year we are in a period of review and information gathering to enable us to plan effectively for the 2014 academic year. The purpose of review at Bayview is to build our professional capacity and to maintain and improve knowledge, skills and attitudes. A key component of the review process is seeking feedback from a range of people. All members of the school community, parents, students and staff are invited to participate in the LEAD suite of surveys. Independent Schools Victoria offers this comprehensive survey, analysis and benchmarking service. LEAD stands for Listen to our stakeholders, Evaluate what is said, Act on this knowledge and Deliver better outcomes. The LEAD surveys help us to develop a better understanding of the perceptions of our key stakeholders, namely parents, students, staff and schools Boards. Bayview’s results will be benchmarked against other independent schools and compared to the last LEAD survey undertaken in 2010. The LEAD survey combines objective data – such as NAPLAN results – with the subjective feedback data from students, staff, Year 12 exiting students and parents. The result is a 360-degree view of school performance. If you have not yet completed the survey please consider doing so as your feedback is vital in our forward planning. Contact Jill Goldsworthy if you require information. All staff members are currently participating in Annual Review Meetings where we will explore their current and future professional goals and establish professional learning plans for 2014. These periods of reflection are essential to the continuous growth of each individual staff member and the whole staff collectively. Leah Kelly, Deputy Principal, and I have also recently undergone a period of Review that has provided us with comment from a range of people. We welcome the feedback that we have been given and we are now setting further goals for our professional development based on the recommendations. Feedback is an essential part of education and has a valued place at Bayview. It helps us maximise our potential as an educational provider, raising awareness of strengths and areas for improvement, and identify actions to be taken to improve. I think it's very important to have a feedback loop, where you're constantly thinking about what you've done and how you could be doing it better. Elon Musk
