Lord, give security of mind and freedom from anxiety to those we love.
From the Principal– Dr Michelle Kearney The school has been ‘buzzing’ over the last few weeks. The Matsudo exchange trip for 2013 has come to an end and the staff and student have returned excited, exhausted and exhilarated by their experiences. Living and breathing another culture for 2 weeks is a life changing event. It develops personal resilience, empathy, understanding and improved communication skills. We look forward to hearing more about their journey over the coming weeks in this newsletter and the more detailed Magazine article later in the year. Our Year 12 classes are ‘buzzing’! As students count down the number of sleeps until the first written exam they are busily building their confidence that they have mastered the skills and knowledge required for each subject. Revision notes, practice exams, more notes and more exams is the lived experience of the VCE student at the moment. Year 12 staff and students are working together on the rituals that are part of the Year 12 journey. Celebration Day is a fun filled day where students and staff can have a good time and appreciate the power of the relationships that occurs between students and a school. Our Valedictory Church Service is a time to reflect on and be thankful for all that has led to this moment. And the Dinner is a time for families to celebrate and say farewell to the school community that has partnered with their son or daughter throughout their secondary education. Our Visual Arts staff are ‘buzzing’! The concurrent Arts shows of student work at the Portland Arts Centre and the Julia Street Creative Space highlight the creative talent and dedication of the senior students and staff in the preparation of the folios and final products in Studio Art, Textiles, Visual Communication & Design and Wood. Both Art shows have been well received by the guests who have already had an opportunity to visit the exhibitions. And, Year 8 and Year 11 students are ‘buzzing’ as we have commenced the process of looking for the 2014 Middle and Senior Years School Leaders. There is an energy, vibrancy and vitality throughout the school that is infectious in the classrooms, the staff room and the Board room. I'm ready to spread my wings. This is my season for growth and new adventures. I'm a divine and original design from God.
