At Bayview we strongly believe in the importance of parent and teacher communication. Over the coming weeks families will have the opportunity to participate in Parent – teacher – student meetings and will receive the Term 1 interim reports. Parent-teacher-student meetings are an opportunity to establish strong lines of communication between parents and teachers. Since young people are different at home and in school, parent-teacher meetings enable both the parent and the teacher to gain a better understanding of the child, enabling them to be more effective in helping him or her. The first step to effective communication is to ensure that parents understand that it is more than just gathering reports from the teacher on their sons or daughters overall performance in the classroom. It is also more than acquiring information about the behaviour while in the educational environment. It is about achieving a fluid exchange of information between the teacher, the parent and the student focusing on the achievements within the classroom as well as the young person’s general persona. It is about sharing information about weaknesses and strengths both at home and at school.

Parents & Friends are looking for volunteers to assist with running a small canteen. You will be placed on a roster (to suit your availability) and required only once or twice per term. Funds raised from P&F initiatives are supporting students in the classroom. Article on Page 4 lists the distribution of funds raised in 2013.
It is important to understand that when parents, teachers and students communicate and work in partnership, an opportunity for the young person to reach their maximum potential both in the classroom and outside of the classroom is provided. This is because of the fact that when regular communication is engaged in, a relationship will form. This relationship will assist each student in realizing that they have a solid support system that is working together for their benefit. Parents have an important role when it comes to their sons or daughters academic success. It has been established that the parent is the top educator in each young person’s life. It has also been established that the parent is the prime role model for their child. While teachers are important as well, the child will benefit more if there is a collaboration that involves regular communication. Consequently, parents are encouraged to take advantage of the upcoming opportunities to engage in deep conversation with their son and daughter, and a range of teachers about progress, challenges and triumphs.
