EMA Parent Funding Has Ceased Just a reminder that the EMA program ceased at the end of 2014 and parents will not be able to apply for the EMA in 2015. In its place some additional funding will be allocated to eligible schools through schools’ core operational funding mechanism, with the neediest schools receiving the most funding.

Last week’s performances of The Secret Garden were thoroughly enjoyed by all. After months of rehearsal, designing and creating, the Portland Arts Centre stage became a magical place that transported audiences to other places and times, and to the belief in the transformative power of hope. The team of students, parents, staff, and friends of the College worked collaboratively to bring the story to life. It was truly a memorable night of theatre. The 2015 Future Leaders of Industry project was launched this week with nine of the fourteen students selected to participate coming from Bayview College. This unique program is testament to what can be achieved when a community comes together with a shared commitment. All the partner organisations who have been involved in the past, who are currently involved and who are considering involvement in the future, recognise that the investment we make in young people today is an investment that will pay dividends in the future. Not only does FLOI change the lives of the students, it also changes the perspectives of employers, and helps develop the Portland community. As well as the nine students participating it was edifying to see that so many of the mentors participating this year are Bayview College Alumni. Our College continues to instil the values of service and giving back to community as it has done throughout its 131 year history. Throughout this edition of the newsletter we witness examples of success in the sporting, academic and leadership arena. Successful people share some common characteristics. They care about themselves and others and demonstrate this by always trying to do the best that they can do. They have the courage to step up and try new things, and put themselves forward for leadership, team selection, scholarships etc. They set goals for themselves and develop strategies for achieving these goals. They get back up and try again when they don’t quite achieve the desired result. Quite simply, they have a go! Don't aim for success if you want it; just do what you love and believe in, and it will come naturally. David Frost
