Do not overdo it: alternating warm and cold treatments can make the pain worse if you do it for too long. You can prevent your arthritis from getting worse by protecting your joints. If a certain activity causes your joints to get inflamed every time, avoid this task. Have your spouse help you around the house or hire someone to do the house keeping for you if you need to. Avoid sitting on an uncomfortable chair or staying crouched for long periods of time. During the winter, always wear a good pair of gloves to keep your hands warm.
