Leusden is a town in the province of Uthrecht and it is located about 3 kilometres southeast of Amersfoort. JDWA was asked to develop a new masterplan for a shopping center called “Hamershof”. The main idea of the project was to giving a new face, more elegance and clean to the public space and buildings. New tiles in three greyscale turning the area into a chic space helped by a new wood furnitures, lights and green. Furthermore, the water in the canal at the Kooikersgracht is “lifted up”. Thus, the canal is transformed into stream at the same height of the ground.

Theresiakerk + Passarel location: Haagwinde, Apeldoorn, Netherlands typology: transformation of the Church into a Care Center for Mentally Disabled year: 2017 software: AutoCad, SketchUp, VRay, Illustrator, Photoshop

Apeldoorn is a medium sized city in the Dutch province of Gelderland, is known for its spacious, green and family atmosphere. JDWA was aked to prepare a project for the transformation of the chutch called “Theresiakerk into a care center for mentally disabled people. The project reorganizes the spaces dedicated to the liturgical celebration into open flexible space (living and play rooms, kitchen, refectory and also fysioteraphy rooms) and parsonage into a quite and private space for patients. More important for these people is also staying in contact with nature, it helps to relax not only the body but the mind, so the existing garden offers the possibility for outdoor activities.

Unilever Office location: Rotterdam, Netherlands typology: Transformation of factory into office spaces year: 2017 software: AutoCad, SketchUp, VRay, Illustrator, Photoshop

How to convert an old factory into a spectacular office space? The original building was built in the early 1900s and required a fresh image to update it and bring it in line with the Unilever brand. Thanks to the specific requests of the client and the synergy established beetwen it and the architecture studio, this led to create spaces with the spirit of community and collaboration. The main concept of the refurbishment was to create open work space, giving it privacy. Particular attention has been paid to the study of the circulation and connection of the spaces.

New York: project of urban regeneration for Queens location: New York (NY) typology: landscape, railway, regeneration, urban architecture year: 2016 software: AutoCad, Archicad, Photoshop, Artlantis, 3DStudio Max

The thesis explores the theme addressed in the international metropolitan laboratories workshop carried out in New York during September 2015. The study area is the Queens District, specifically the Roosevelt Avenue between the neighborhoods of Jackson Heights and Corona North. It is an area of controversy both architectural and social due to the lack of urban renewal and the strong presence of different ethnicities. Moreover, the main problem in this part of the district is the presence of the elevated metro which links this part of town with Manhattan and the two main city airports (La Guardia and JFK). The resulting project seeks to create new places of social exchange and job opportunities through the introduction of ten buildings (examined only two) and a new spatial reorganization.

32

Roosevelt Avenue

NEW YORK

queens district

Roosevelt Avenue is a main thoroughfare in the New York City borough of Queens. Roosevelt Avenue begins at 48th Street and Queens Boulevard in the neighborhood of Sunnyside. West of Queens Boulevard, the road is named Greenpoint Avenue and continues across the Greenpoint Avenue Bridge into the borough of Brooklyn, terminating at West Street and the East River in the neighborhood of Greenpoint. Roosevelt Avenue goes through Woodside, Jackson Heights, Elmhurst, Corona, Flushing Meadows–Corona Park (adjacent to Citi Field) and Flushing. In Flushing, Roosevelt Avenue ends at 156th Street and Northern Boulevard. The trains run on the elevated IRT Flushing Line tracks above the street with ten stations until it reaches Flushing – Main Street, its current eastern terminus. The rail line has been elevated above Roosevelt Avenue since 1917, when Roosevelt Avenue was formed from the combination of other streets into one main avenue. The street, itself named after Theodore Roosevelt and Franklin D. Roosevelt, provides the name for the Roosevelt Avenue / 74th Street station in Jackson Heights. Roosevelt Avenue is well known for its diversity of cultural representation, ranging from Indian to Latin American.

in queens, approximately 48.5% of the population are foreign-born.

With the arrival of the Long Island Railroad in 1854, developers began to subdivide farmland and turn it into housing. The elevated subway, which still runs over Roosevelt Avenue, sealed the deal in 1917. The biggest physical changes to Corona in the twentieth century came with The 1939 New York World’s Fair, when the neighborhood’s swamps and ash dumps were transformed into fairgrounds. The name of this street and plaza comes from the National Race Course, a horse-racing track that operated here from 1854-1866. Corona Plaza is a recently renovated public space in the heart of Corona, Queens. The plaza has been the central site for many of the Museum’s public art projects and community festivals, as well as the core of the Museum’s recent parks and public space advocacy work. For years, the once-grand Plaza was just a small one-block street riddled with parking and trash collection problems. As early as 2005, the Queens Museum began hosting public events on the site by applying for one-day permits to close the street to traffic. in

New York Workshop Metropolitan Lab_Villard 2014 location: New York (NY) typology: landscape, railway, regeneration, urban architecture year: 2014 software: AutoCad, Photoshop, Indesign

“Metropolitan Laboratories” is a program established by the IUAV University of Venice and open to all Italian schools of architecture involved with the travelling design seminar “Villard de Honnecourt”. The program established an annual workshop/study trip aimed at developing research projects on urban design issues and the use of sustainable development models among case studies in rapidly developing contemporary metropolises. The theme is the same of the thesis but differently addressed. In this case, for the renewal of the area, with my team we have created installations designed as urban breaths recognizable by the white color and sinuous shape.
