PERSONAL STATEMENT
Having grown in the wildest Savannah plains of East Africa, as a child I had never imagined that there was a world, beyond the great horizon. I always wondered where the airplanes flew into the clouds and vanished. We were taught to explore what was around us, learn about the wilderness that decorated the African Plains, rejoice at the exotic sunset and pray as little children, that one day, maybe we could also fly past the African horizon and discover what was beyond. Going to school, transformed many thoughts and answered questions that hip hopped in my brain as a young child, but that was not the end. Always being taught that the closest thing to ones heart would become the most magnificent inspiration of one’s life. 'Textile' is not just a discipline of 'design', but a language of innovation and creation, maybe hope for some. Creativity is essential for growth in the rapidly globalizing industry. For me textile is nurturing handlooms, wrapping threads around my fingers, which bind me to new thoughts and connect me to a new world. At times some threads may be left loose, some strong or some broken. This is textile craft. The bridge of life for many artisans but due to greed of industrialization, chances are high of collapsing. As a textile designer, my role is to strengthen the bridges that build lives; hence there is opportunity for reciprocation with innovation and survival of traditions. The colorful dyes awaken life of the material, embroideries breed soul into the fabric, when a finished piece is displayed on the walls, and the beads breathe and sing. For me textile is living, telling stories and a constant evolution of discoveries. In the vast field of textile there is never satisfaction or an end, but countless meanders flowing to new directions. I desire to grow, gather memories and sew successful realities in the textile world. Textile is my story‌

WEAVING Morrocon Blues A Peacock Feather Material Battle Complex Structures African story Jacquard
MORROCON BLUES Inspired by the blue city of Morocco with its exotic shades of
blue which paint the city with a tint of the Bright African sun. Here, I weave a quilt which talk about Morocco and its culture, revealing its stories through every thread.
After studying the Morrocon culture, patterns and colours, then deriving a weave structure. The fabric will be used to make exotic covers for luxurious furnitures (sofa sets and seatings).
A PEACOCK FEATHER
Joy is a peacock-it’s beauty so rare;
Variation of weaves through a hand loom,
Into a fan-like form, uniquely it creates;
combination of weaves, colours and tech-
A rainbow of colors that vibrantly flare. After the rain, brightly they come out. Never forgot, this vision, joyfully it illuminates. Bringing such happiness and peace my way; All because a “little birdie” came my way!
through a process of learning and exploring creatively, trying range of threads,
niques. Coming up with a theme, which directs to colours and finally a combination of weave to build a collection.
MATERIAL BATTLE Exploring with
unconventional material to explore possibilities and
opportunities for textile
techniques for innovation and creation of new products
with different qualities.
COMPLEX STRUCTURES Constructing graphs to derive weaving codes, in order to construct variations of structure, combining different colours, techniques and threads to build interesting and
innovative surfaces.
Construcutng weaving patterns used for commercial purpose in the industry. For example,
the terry structure which is used to weave towels.. These complex weave
structures can be used for various purposes as luxury cushion whicih is made using the Multiple weft tapestry to derive exciting and innovative patterns.
AFRICAN STORIES
JACQUARD Creating home furnishing fabrics with variations of weaves, to create shades of colours, effects, which are 3 dimensional for example a quilted area.

different surfaces. Experimented printing on hand made paper, wool and card board.
TWISTED BAMBOO Inspired by the vast Bamboo forests, developing a variation of abstracted artworks, using different
media to explore depth, colour and freedom to
the mind to create fearlessly a new story which
will be further taken ahead as screen printing on fabrics.

An attempt to create products using the print, making hand made covers, back drop and Lamp shade. Screen print experimented on on different surfaces.
IMPRESSIONS A collection of impressions from ones surrounding, who knew from the things one takes as normal could also be beautiful, using
ink as a mode of capturing the textures and impressions of objects/ surfaces which would further be developed into repeats, addition of colour for prints.
SAVE AHMEDABAD! Inspired by the Old city in Ahmedabad, this collection of prints is named as
‘Untangling the Old city’, which captures the life
style, architecture, people, tradition and cultures, with
exploring abstraction in style ‘Hundertwasser’, a German Artist, believes that a straight line is ungodly, hence a task to capture the city of Old Ahmedabad in
not so straight lines.
Capturing the scenario of the old city, interacting
with the local people, collecting stories of the ‘pols’, adapting to the local language, figuring out the placement of the houses and the neighborhoods. A birds eye view of the old city, which helps with mapping
the city. With combination of all these, a strong print is developed, portraying the present situation and scenario of the old city, and how with time it is
fading away due to several reasons like pollution, over crowding, invasion of new architecture is over powering the beautiful heritage monuments which have been in the city for years.
PRINT COORDINATES
Coordinates, a collection of simple prints inspired by the Old city of Ahmedabad and
abstracted, using the word chaos as inspiration. These prints can be coordinated with the main collection.

APPAREL CONSTRUCTION Black is beautiful Labyrinth Tale Of A Moth Kintsugi African stories
BLACK IS BEAUTIFUL
Black is as beautiful as a bed of milky white clouds. Black is as beautiful as soft as a newborn baby hair. Black is as beautiful as standing up for what is right.
Black is as beautiful as trying on grandmother's classy hats. Black is as beautiful as you and I saying Hi! Black is as beautiful as two sisters walking hand in hand.
Black is as beautiful as wading in a pond on a
hot summer day. Black is as beautiful as you holding your baby for the very first time. Black is as beautiful as saying I miss you. Black is as beautiful as going fishing with your dad.
Black is as beautiful as calling your mother on her birthday. Black is as beautiful as two brothers playing basketball. Black is as beautiful braiding your sister's hair. Black is as beautiful as grandpa taking you to the park.
Black is as beautiful as the sweet sound of a saxophone playing. Black is as beautiful as eating mom's Never Fell caramel cake. Black is as beautiful as the bright rising sun. Black is as beautiful as a simple kiss placed on the forehead. Black is as beautiful as lilies on Easter morning. Black is as beautiful as saying I love you. Black is me and I AM BEAUTIFUL.
LABYRINTH A labyrinth expands before me, Its only prize, the truth; reality Awaits the shrewd of mind.
At every turn lie misdirections, One wrong choice and I am
Lost, for perils lie ahead;
Webs of lies lie waiting for their prey. I pray for wisdom that I may not fall,
Misguided By a ghost I thought I saw; My own illusions turn me from the light. The path ahead is cobbled from the shadows, Bits of truth among them shining gold, The only light to guide my weary feet
Through darkness beckoning with gentle hands.
Temptation offers respite from my search: “Sit down and rest, poor ragged traveler, you search in vain
For worthless lies. I tell the truth;
One as beautiful as I is honest, sure. I pay no heed. The truth is rarely beautiful or pure.
TALE OF A MOTH Like a moth

KINTSUGI May your brokenness
be restored and mended With the purest fine gold.
May your beauty supersede the former. Using the idea of kintsugi, to inspire a dress
which would metaphorically combine memories for a women on her special day. If a pot can be joint with gold, why not a dress? A marriage will have ups and down,
relationships will break but just to become stronger and more beautiful. To accept life is beautiful.
More valued.

TEXTILE FURNITURE A Fairytale chair MI - Nest Lagom & Lucid
A FAIRYTALE CHAIR We grew up and realized we could
build and live our own fairytale,
inspired by the stories we were told. How magical would it be to create magic in the real world? Like
how Fairy godmother asked for a pumpkin to create a carriage, I brought waste. All that was required was an old chair, some old textile waste and a magic wand.
(collaboration with Furniture design Pouja Biharilal)
MI - NEST A project for MICA CAMPUS, Ahmedabad Inspired by the animal diversity of the campus, I choose the ‘homes
of animals ‘as an inspiration. A home, whichever; it may be built by man or built by animal brings comfort. One can cannot call a campus their home, but what if one could feel and interact with a creation that could bring the feeling of home even after being so far away.
MICA itself being a diverse campus, with people from different
back ground hosting events and activities, which are colourful and
lively, evoke a very vibrant mood. The ability of the campus
to create a perfect balance between nature and human activity is an inspiration. Similarly, I choose the activities around campus as my mood and nature as my theme would go with the style MICA prefers.
A multifunctional floor seating plan called MI- nest, which can accommodate 9 people when dismantled into seating
units with back rest in 3 different sizes and a storage plan
within to build a shape of a nest creating a playful couch when
intact with buckles.
LUCID FULL OF FUN AND SPIRIT
Game on the double

This is the story of the
DANCING BEADS
The Maasai Tribal jewelry has been something to wonder about, how is it that living amongst vast dry lands of the savannah they are
inspired to create such vibrant and beautifully crafted jewelry? The jewelry is the identity of the Maasai, plays an important role in their life and tells stories of their journeys. An attempt to translate the beads
on a fabrics would be an art itself,
through a colourful journey of explorations and experimentations to replicate beads. My work is an abstraction to create a tribal experience, which brings the beads to life in a different textile medium, allowing to make your own stories about the beads just like how The Maasai’s have theirs. Having lived near the Maasai’s, I always felt the beads the were magical and has a world of their own. In the silence of the vastness of the savanah, I always heard the beads dancing as the Nomadic Maasais migrated for their living.
