5 NGOs FOR RURAL DEVELOPMENT IN INDIA

The majority of India’s population lives in villages but there is a huge difference in the living conditions of people living in rural and urban areas. While the majority of the urban population has a decent standard of living, many people in rural areas don’t even have basic necessities. The economic gap between the two groups is extensive.

Rural development in India Over the years many initiatives have been taken by the government to promote rural development in the country. These initiatives are focused on improving the quality of life and economic growth of people in rural areas. Besides government initiatives, various rural development NGOs have also been actively involved in transforming the lives of people in rural areas. Here’s a list of 5 NGOs that have massively contributed to rural development in India.

1. The Watershed Organisation Trust (WOTR) WOTR is a globally recognized non-profit organization that has been actively working for rural development in India since 1993. It aims to transform the lives of millions of villages in the country. The NGO is working to reduce poverty in the rural areas of the country. It aims at


achieving its goals through community mobilization for sustainable watershed development and integrated rural development. WOTR uses sustainable and equitable measures to ensure a better quality of life for vulnerable and disadvantaged communities and also helps them in meeting their basic requirements. HARIYALI CENTER FOR RURAL DEVELOPMENT The Hariyali Center For Rural Development has been working for the last 25 years to evaluate, monitor, and implement various development programmes in the underdeveloped areas of the country. The NGO works on various issues related to● Education ● Health ● Sanitation ● Livelihood ● Micro-Finance ● Gender Justice ● Child Rights ● PwDs, SC/ST/OBC/Minority rights. HARYALI has collaborated with various NGOs and other organizations over the years and has conducted various research and evaluation projects. The staff is devoted to helping the rural population of the country and over the years have made major contributions towards rural development in India.

3. ANAHITA FOUNDATION

Established in 2009, Anahita Foundation is an NGO for rural development and poverty alleviation in India. Ever since its commencement, the NGO has undertaken various sustainable and value-driven initiatives to empower rural India.


The organization aims to promote inclusive, integrated, and comprehensive development and growth amongst the underdeveloped areas of the country. SANJEEVANI VIKAS AVEM JAL KALYAN SAMITI Sanjeevani Vikas Avem Jal Kalyan Samiti is a non-profit organization working since 2000 to promote rural development in India. It has been providing services to promote women empowerment and awareness, development of science & technology awareness in common people, and creating jobs in rural areas , and expansion of education in rural areas from its inception. The NGO has run several campaigns and programs to achieve its mission of attaining General Rural Development, Empowerment of Women, Watershed Development, and Health Care. Functioning for over two decades, Sanjeevani has gained a lot of recognition for its remarkable work and has won several awards.

5. RDO TRUST RDO Trust is dedicated to helping the rural community in India. It aims at bridging the gap between the rural and urban areas by promoting innovative solutions to the social problems faced by the rural population. The NGO works on the following issues ● Education and Literacy ● Women Empowerment ● Sanitation ● Agriculture ● Protection of Child ● Water Resources Management

Since independence, with the collective efforts of the Government and NGOs, there has been a lot of improvement in the living standards of people in these areas.
