An Inhabited Co.Living Architecture changes as a reflection of a changing society. The architecture we inhabit today can be defined as dynamic, one which is augmented by digital communication and a frenetic rhythms. Smartphones and social networks are irreversibly transforming our daily lives, our way of living together, thinking and perceiving the world. In this case, shapes close to this frantic feature of life where functions merged and have been combined with new themes of contemporary times. Hostel for Working Professionals can be the domestic space as the first place in which the phenomena of change in individual behavior and social transformation are reflected. The key aspect of this reshaping concerns the new technologies, especially social networks, which allows a steady connection to the outside world. In fact, human interactions is increasing through a network of relationships that is progressively reaching any place in the world.
Project Type: Architectural Design (2019-2020). Project Duration: Academic (Semester 5). Project Guide: Ar. Shubhangi Bhide. Project Location: Hostel for Working Professionals, Panvel.
The proposed design revolves around a new interpretation of current domestic space, reacting to the contemporary need to identify Home as a place for both individuality and meeting in order to be part of the community. This brought us to think about new themes of architecture, such as the concept of sharing, meant in a broad sense.

The meaning of internal spaces has been redefined over time and the relationship between individuals and/or each space is no more unique and predetermined. Technologies allow to undertake the same activity in different rooms influencing a lot the bond between individuals.
Architecture Portfolio 2017-2022
The idea is to show a place where borders lose their materiality and become fluid thus creating new and interconnected spaces. Tradition meets contemporary. Or better, contemporary emerges from the traditional scheme of Home, forced in his squared perimeter, as a smooth and liquid reality, now, a built reality.

04 The Notion of Drawing The process of ‘drawing’ has always been considered as a preparatory phase that embodies the wandering contemplation of random thinking in the form of an image. The drawing is always in continuous evolution and never complete as a reflection on artist’s activity.
Project Type: Allied Design- Basic Design (2017-2018). Project Duration: Academic (Semester 1). Project Guide: Ar. Preeti Pansare.
The main idea of this particular project was to distort the actual shape of the stone by painting it using the basic elements of drawing i.e the dots, lines. shapes. planes etc. Here, the stone is painting using different geometric shapes which form a different plane, which is then highlighted using a solid black fill into it.

05 A Fragmented Journey Marine Drive (also know as Queen’s Necklace, also known as Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Road) is a three kilometer seafacing promenade that starts at Nariman Point and goes on to Babulnath. It has always been a prestigious locality in the city. In the early days, traditional Parsi houses and buildings dotted the esplanade, and many still stand today. While most of the old buildings have been replaced by new ones from the 1960s, a lot of luxury hotels like The Oberoi, The Trident, Hotel Marine Plaza, and The Intercontinental also dot the esplanade, with palm trees adorning the footpath.

06 KUMARTULI: THE STREET FOR AND OF KUMBHARS. Kumartuli is located in Northern Kolkata, West Bengal. Kumartuli is a maze of lanes and by-lanes where deft hands mould clay to give shape to divine forms. Rows of idols in various stages of completion stood inside the dark workshops. In about three months, these rudimentary frames will emerge as the ten-handed Goddess Durga standing over a lion in her demon-slaying pose, her long spear piercing the evil Mahishasura. . It is amazing to see how the craftsmen painstakingly create the marvellous idols out of mere clay.
Project Type: College Project- Documentation (2018-2019). Project Duration: Academic- Group Project (Semester 4). Project Guide: Ar. Tejashree Lakras. Project Location: Kumartuli, Kolkata.
The Kumbhars live here with their families and have set up their own spaces for pottery and idol making. Their workspaces are in congested areas with no AC, no fans, no proper ventilation and with the small windows who is refusing the daylight to enter. As for equipment and materials, they have clay, straw, ropes (made from coconut fiber), bamboo sticks and two skillful hands that can transform the shapeless mound of clay into a beautiful and awe inspiring idol of Goddess Durga.

08 Moshe Safdie: The Modernist Architect. The research paper portrays Ar. Moshe Safdie’s different designs and its principles. It analyses the unique quality of his design projects, his modernist way of encorporating nature and architecture are been discussed with five common and design features of his famous built structures.
Project Type: Architectural Theory (2019-2020). Project Duration: Academic (Semester 5). Project Guide: Ar. Abhijit Sahasrabudhe and Ar. Neha Korde.
“Architecture is not about building the impossible, which we can do if we have enough money and enough tools and enough computers. It is about building what is appropriate and about attaining beauty through such an approach. I describe this premise as ‘inherent buildability’, and I believe it is central to what I do” - Moshe Safdie

ARCHITECTURE IN FIVE POINTS: ‘To design without the intention of building is not architecture’ -Moshe Safdie.
ABSTRACT: Nidhi Ramesh Mora, third year B.Arch student from Pillai College of Architecture, New Panvel. Completed her 10+2 years from Sophia College for Womens, Peddar Road and her high school from Sacred Heart High School, Worli. ‘Beauty In Humanity’ He who seeks truth shall find beauty, He who seeks beauty shall find vanity, He who seeks order shall find gratification, He who seeks gratification shall be disappointed, and He who considers himself the servant of his fellow beings shall find the joy of self-expression, He who seeks selfexpression shall fall into the pit of arrogance.
As a self-described modernist, he is well known for the dramatic curves, arrays of geometric patterns, use of windows, and key placement of open and green spaces. His writings and designs stress the need to create meaningful, vital, and inclusive spaces that enhance community, with special attention to the essence of a particular locale, geography, and culture. Emerged on the international architectural scene with a bang in 1967 with his Habitat 67 housing complex, built for the Montreal World’s Fair. Has designed striking cultural, civic, and educational buildings around the world. Safdie, who apprenticed with Louis Kahn, is known for his firm’s largescale urban projects and his use of bold shapes and integrated

His career starts after apprenticing with Louis Kahn in Philadelphia, Safdie returned to Montreal to oversee the master plan for Expo 67. In 1964, he established his own firm to undertake Habitat 67, an adaptation of his McGill thesis. Habitat 67, which pioneered the design and implementation of three-dimensional, prefabricated units for living, was a central feature of Expo 67 and an important development in architectural history. He was awarded the 1967 Construction Man of the Year Award from the Engineering News Record and the Massey Medal for Architecture in Canada for Habitat 67. In 1978, after teaching at McGill, Ben Gurion, and Yale universities, Safdie moved his main office to Boston and became director of the Urban Design Program at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design, until 1984. From 1984 to 1989, he was the Ian Woodner Professor of Architecture and Urban Design at Harvard. Since the early 1990s, Safdie, a citizen of Canada, Israel, and the United States, has focused on his architectural practice, Safdie Architects, which is based in Somerville, Massachusetts, and has branches in Toronto, Jerusalem, and Singapore.
Safdie has designed six of Canada’s principal public institutions—including the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa, and Vancouver Library Square—as well as many other notable projects around the world, including the Salt Lake City Main Public Library; the Khalsa Heritage Centre in Punjab, India; the Marina Bay Sands integrated resort in Singapore; the United States Institute of Peace Headquarters in Washington, DC. As the number of people living in cities continues to grow, architects, planners and governments are grappling with how to increase density while keeping down costs and retaining public spaces. Moshe Safdie tackled at the age of 29, with Habitat 67, a pioneering design for a prefabricated, high-density urban housing development that integrated gardens, fresh air, privacy and generously proportioned apartments. The main design principles followed by Safdie’s approach are shaping the public realm; to create meaningful, vital, and inclusive social spaces, place with a purpose; design places that address human needs and aspirations, responding to the essence of that place; designing specifically to place and culture, should be inherently buildable; informed by the specific qualities of materials and the processes of construction.

Moshe Safdie: The Modernist Architect
Yad Vashem, Jerusalem; 2005. By building something responsibly; using the resources efficiently hile we advance clients goals, humanize the mega scale; mitigate the dehumanizing effect if mega scale, and enhance the quality of life in our cities and neighbourhoods. The Khalsa Heritage Memorial Complex (Virasat-e-Khalsa) (2011) in Anandpur Sahib, Punjab, India, commemorates 500 years of Sikh history and the 300th anniversary of the Khalsa, the scriptures written by the 10th and last living Guru of Sikhism, Guru Gobind Singh. After studying the Sikh culture and religion for two years, Safdie designed a complex with two buildings at each side of a ravine and connected by a ceremonial bridge, surrounded by a large body of water, blending the architecture with the landscape. Jewel Changi Airport re-imagines the centre of an airport as a major public realm attraction. Jewel offers a range of facilities for landside airport operations, indoor gardens and leisure attractions, retail offerings and hotel facilities, all under one roof. A distinctive dome-shaped façade made of glass and steel ads to Changi Airport’s appeal as one of the world’s leading air hubs. Based on the geometry of a torus, the building is designed as a new central connector between the existing airport terminals at Singapore Changi Airport.
Jewel represents an innovation in the world of lifestyle/retail design, with a one-of-a-kind relationship between garden and marketplace. In addition, nowhere in the world has a building been constructed that integrates the public realm with an airport facility so closely. The building extends Changi Airport’s principal function as a transit hub, to a public gathering space for Singaporeans and international travelers, establishing a new model for airports as discrete destinations for shopping, entertainment, and social activity. Conceived to serve the people of Singapore and travellers equally, the building is directly connected to the Changi Bus Terminal and the airport’s Terminal 1. It is also accessible from Terminals 2 and 3 via pedestrian bridges, and the interterminal train crosses through the gardens, giving visitors with limited time a glimpse into the Forest Valley. There is also a topiary walk and other horticultural displays. On the north side of the park is an event plaza space big enough to serve 1,000 people. The campus has been designed with both the Surbana Jurong community and the community-at-large in mind, creating uplifting spaces that maximize the potential for shared moments of engagement and creativity facilitated by the tranquillity of the site’s natural setting. Embodying the character of Singapore as the “the City in the Garden,” the design of the Surbana Jurong Headquarters Campus will integrate harmoniously with the natural landscape. The design is premised around preserving as much of the site’s mature trees and vegetation as possible. Situated on a previously undeveloped Greenfield site, the campus will be the initial flagship development of the Jurong District Eco-Garden, set within CleanTech Park. The campus’ series of pavilion-like structures are linked by a glazed pedestrian spine and a series of both open-air and enclosed courtyards, each with a unique character that provides natural light and fresh air. Amenities, shared by the public and employees further enhance the experience, including lounge areas, table tennis, a beer garden, an open-air cinema, meeting spaces, an urban farm, butterfly habitats and rooftop terraces. “Jewel weaves together an experience of nature and the marketplace, dramatically asserting the idea of the airport as an uplifting and vibrant urban centre, engaging travellers, visitors and residents, and echoing Singapore’s reputation as ‘The City in the Garden.” - Moshe Safdie
