Residential Built 2014 Raalte, the Netherlands 200m2 Mr. L. Meijer
The aim of the project was a renovation of the existing building, located in the middle of the town, and an extension of the same. In order to provide a good spatial relation between the existing part and the new one, the internal layout has been completely changed. During the design process, one of the key element has been the relation with the city, apertures were studied in order to exploit the benefits of the strategic location in terms of view and lights, with a particular attention to the privacy of the more private spaces of the house.

Residential Built 2014 Raalte, the Netherlands 200m2 Mr. L. Meijer
This project on the Brugstraat concerns the renovation with an extension of an existing house. The composition in the main facade is based on rectangular shapes which try to keep a visual harmony between the windows, the doors and the facade itself. In order to match the new design, the entire interior layout has been changed. The house had to be completed following the contemporary energy efficient standards.

The Dutch Government has the goal to build only energy neutral houses starting from the 2020. The construction process for a typical house has not been innovated and improved much in the last years, reason why the construction requirements are difficult to achieve. To meet this request of the Government, these houses will be built following a new process of construction and using sustainable materials.

Hybrid building Study 2012 Amsterdam, the Netherlands 20.000m2 Municipality of Amsterdam
The “Amsterdam Marina” is my graduation project. The ‘Hybrid Buildings’ is a urban scale study and project studio focused on the analysis between architecture and urban environment. My attempt tried to show the strength and the opportunities of this area, located in Amsterdam North. The aim of this project is to create a physical and social relation between the consolidated city and this site, at that moment non well identified. This urban planning considers also the surrounding buildings and the people already living there.

This corner villa, in the town of Raalte, was designed for a private client, who asked for a sustainable building. The most unique point is the view on the surrounding landscape. The main design feature is the orientation towards this view. This corner house meets the latest requirements of engineering and sustainability. The walls are not built following the traditional way, but using materials that have a much better thermal resistance.

Recreation Study 2010 Antwerp, Belgium 200.000m2 Municipality of Antwerp
The long stripe next to the Schelde, in the city of Antwerp, can be described as an empty urban wasteland with aged industrial artifacts scattered around. The fragmentation in terms of use and the difference in character of the site make the feeling of contrapositive bigger. The proposal for a new urban recreation area in Antwerp tries to find solutions in terms of new functions and respect of the history.

Town hall Study 2010 Antwerp, Belgium 8.000m2 District of Deurne
The main challenge for the design of the town hall of Deurne was related to his background: status, history, and social involvement. The new project considers the relationship with the surrounding: the Church and the cloister by adding a new type: the market Hall. During my research I tried to focus my attention on a good translation of the “market hall type. After studies I decided to design the building as a detached element and to give to the ground floor the character of public function.

The design studio “Hybrid buildings was focused on the design for a new University in Amsterdam. This University is equipped with a large auditorium, classrooms, hotel, student houses and a restaurant. The huge scale of the building is well integrated in the site area, characterized by a mixed use which includes residential, commerce and industrial buildings. In order to ensure private and pleasant spaces the garden is located in the middle of the structure, far from the traffic and the city noises.

The Smart City development will be a new, mixed-use hub located in the High Tech zone in Ningbo. The concept behind the scheme is to generate activity throughout the day and into the evening. A combination of office, retail, and F&B accommodation organised in an urban layout has been carefully designed to be human in scale and so offer a welcoming and lively environment for users. The scheme is divided into two zones. The river front zone proposes two options; either commercial units or luxury villas, both of which have been developed to a high level of architectural detail to express the opportunities each can provide.

We were asked to prepare two schemes for this stage of the project. One was to be based on an existing scheme that has government approval, the other to explore an alternative approach from first principles. In developing the two schemes there are certain ideas that both designs share, and others that are unique to each. In common to both schemes is an approach to the design of the outdoor spaces and the way they interact with the built form to create a network of exterior space. This provides a variety of experience in the organisation of position, scale, and orientation of the different spaces.

pdp[east] were engaged to develop designs for a resort hotel in the Sai Kung area of Hong Kong. The first of a kind in Hong Kong, the development would have a full set of five star facilities including retail, restaurants and a wedding chapel and banqueting facilities. The designs prepared divide the development into a number of small scale buildings each linked by an integrated landscape design. The scheme is designed to integrate into the urban fabric of Sai Kung and also open out to the ocean where the wedding chapel forms the centrepiece of the landscape design.

Master plan Feasibility study 2007 Rijswijk, the Netherlands 900.000m2 Municipality of Rijswijk
The design for the Masterplan incorporated the idea that people should live on squares rather then on streets. The next idea that followed was that every square could have it’s own architecture, or in other words its own architect. As part of the development of the six Hoog Steenvoorde apartment towers, the City of Rijswijk asked to the developer Modulus and to Rietveld Architects to look beyond the immediate site, and create a context scheme for the whole area, and a vision for the coming 30 years.
