Climate change: BENIN - The Edo Government on Tuesday said it has revoked the Certificates of Occupancy (C of O) of 1,160 plots in Benin to mitigate the effects of climate change.

Edo revokes 1,160 plots
The state Commissioner for Environment, Mr Clem Agba, said this in Benin in an interview with newsmen. Agba said the revocation translated to
recovery of 109,048 hectares of land because the state government was very conscious of the threat posed by climate change.
He said that the revoked plots were those allotted to individuals and corporate organisations which failed to utilise the land within the stipulated period.

PORT-HARCOURT - Attempt by some members of the Rivers State House of Assembly to impeach the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Otelemaba Daniel Amachree failed yesterday resulting in a free-for-all between the two camps in the House. Five members of the House, believed to be loyal to the minister of state for Education, Barrister Ezebunwo Nyesom Wike, had sat in the chambers of the House and announced the impeachment of the Speaker at 9.00 am in the morning and asked Hon. Ogu/Bolo Constituency to take over the seat of the Speaker. Trouble started when Bipi and Hon. Victor Ihunwo, the member
representing Port Harcourt constituency 111, started attacking other members of the House, believed to be supporters of Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, by hitting them with video camera stands, and in the

People of Edo State, Government has discovered that inspite of measures taken by security agents in the State to stop illegal oil bunkering, perpetrators of this shady business have continued unabated. The State Government is warning all those still involved in oil bunkering in the State to, in their own interest, stop this shady and dubious business forthwith as stiffer penalties await them. Any person or group of persons caught in the illegal business will be dealt with according to the law. All vehicles and equipment used will be burnt. Death Penalty GOVERNOR Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State has said he will apply fully the Nigerian Constitution which he subscribed to and not the laws of a European country or the whims of some activists. The Governor who said the international community cannot dictate to Nigeria on which values it should adhere to, said there is so much hypocrisy by the
international community on the issue of human rights. Speaking at a one-day Seminar on, “The Role of
the Public Complaints Commission in a Democratic Government in Nigeria,” Oshiomhole said Nigeria as a
sovereign nation has a right to define its own national values. According to the Governor, “Nigeria is a
sovereign nation and we have a right to define what we regard as our own national values.
ABUJA - Following the weekend attack on a school in Yobe, the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) yesterday dispatched a high powered fact finding team to the State.
