Tragedy averted, as 46-yr-old Mast destroys OBSERVER newsroom By FAITH ISIKHUEMEN BENIN CITY- Tragedy was yesterday averted in the premises of the Bendel Newspaper Company Limited (BNCL) publishers of the OBSERVER titles, when a mast collapsed and fell on the roof of the building housing major offices of the editorial department including the newsroom and destroying parts of the newsroom. The collapse of the mast followed the heavy Breeze and rain that occurred in the afternoon yesterday. The rain which started at about 2pm resulted in staff of the company staying in their offices. The mast was said to have been erected in
cleaning of their e n v i r o n m e n t accordingly. A statement endorsed by the Permanent

As of the time of the incident, staff in the newsroom including the News Editor were busy putting finishing touches to today’s edition. NJC suspends Rivers Chief Judge
ABUJA The National Judicial Council (NJC) yesterday announced the suspension of the Chief Judge of Rivers, Justice P.N.C. Agumagu. This is contained in a statement issued
yesterday by the office of the Acting Director of Information, NJC, Mr. Soji Oye. It said that the Council took the decision at its emergency meeting on Wednesday.
Agumagu, a former president, Rivers Customary Court of Appeal, was sworn-in as substantive Chief Judge
