M A RK T A M STEINTOR | Semester project at Leibniz Universität Hannover | teamwork with Katrine Velichko 2016
S
teintor square in Hannover in is a place of high dencity levels as well as a place of busy social life. Its diversity of functions define its individuality, which we tried to preserve and emphasise in our project. In order to obtain that we’ve chosen to design an open space instead of a building, so it could be gently integrated in existing urban context. The structure concicts of metal post-and-beam framework, that stands on concrete basement. Prefabricated metal-framed parts are gathered up into light adjustable 2-storey modules, which can be rented for various business purposes: cafes or commerce.

The textile modules form an interactive landscape, that invites people to discover market’s life. Lightyards, organized directly around coutiously saved trees, form a so-called semi-closed spaces around the square and bring natural play of light and shadow into action. ▼

HIP ROOFING
Saint-Petersburg
throughout its history has been dealing with numerous factors that influenced the way the buildings and constructions were made. One of them is rainy and humid weather.
DRAIN SYSTEM
2ND CYCLE WATER USAGE
Typically such conditions are considered to be a disadvantage, however in this project the idea is to turn things around and make the best use of it. All the houses on a given territory are equipped with powerful drain system, installed on each facade. Collected water can be filtered and used for utility purposes, e.g. watering plants or heating .

Red Triangle is one of the oldest
factories in Saint Petersburg. Built already at the 1860s in cooperation with Americans, it manufactured rubber products. At the turn of the century the plant, called then just “Triangle”, was Russia’s biggest factory and the leading producer of rubber in the entire world. After the revolution it was named “Red Triangle” and nationalized. The site has a lot of potential in terms of city development, as it is not only located right between downtown and its outskirts, but also very accessible by all means of public and private transport. When it comes to adaptive reuse, my proposal is to turn the whole territory of “Red Triangle” into creative cluster. With that in mind, I decided that the main center of attraction would be the exhibition center – or Red Tower.

As for design solution, my inspiration for the tower was industrial architecture, perfect combination of design and functionality. This applies for exhibition pavilions as well, where I decided to use plastic as the main material. It provides diffused lighting for the interior during the day and, depending of the color of inner lights, makes the look of exterior change in the evening.

After a succesful presentation of my thesis at the university and having recieved my Bachelor degree, I posted my project on Behance. There it got noticed by designideas.pics and they contacted me, asking to publish my work on their site. The article can be found under the following QR-code:
