CULTURAL NODE Nea Smyrni is an area of utmost historical importance. The area is distinguished for its excellent urban design and for the network of public spaces, with parks, squares and buildings-monuments in which some cultural uses are housed. However, with the rapid growth of the population, while the area developed and increased its public spaces, with the redevelopment of Alsos, the pedestrian street of the Central Square and the addition of two other nodal squares, Karlous Square and Patriarch Square, there was no the same treatment as regards culture uses. The aim of this paper was to design a cultural capacitor to meet the cultural needs of the region and to attract people from other regions as well. Seeking the study area, and distinguishing the public network that creates the Alsos, Karlous Square, Central Square, Hestia and the Patriarch Square, there is immediately a building block and another building that act as a brake on the public path of the center Of Nea Smyrna. Therefore, we choose this region to place the new cultural use, aiming to create a civilization building but also a public passage and an open free space an audience. By studying and recognizing the syntax of neighboring elements, the design follows the square’s square rules, creating a bright play of open and closed spaces, staging spaces and small squares, as well as a discreet turn of the last volume towards Home, turning both the look As well as the movement towards that direction. The intense knitting of the open and the closed space both horizontally and vertically is the basic placement of the design, in which the public and open space is not detected only at the ground level, but both aboveground and underground, creating new qualities in the already existing public area.
