A Snapshot of Bampton

A Snapshot of Bampton Bampton is a village undergoing constant change. The Bampton that we know today is not the Bampton that existed even as recently as a year ago. This is a record of Bampton in the mid teens of the 21st-century - or more accurately, a record of Bampton already in the past - the village has changed since these photos were taken. The photographs don’t show anything remarkable - in fact they show simple and ordinary scenes. These aspects of Bampton are rarely recorded but they will hopefully be of interest to future generations (and those historians, archaeologists and explorers). These images may be difficult to understand and maybe even difficult to like. This is perhaps because they seem so ordinary. All they are doing is showing us what Bampton looks like today - but put yourself in the mind of someone in 20 years’ time and reflect on what these photographs show. We can’t predict how Bampton will change over the next 20 years but we can look back over the past 20 and reflect. This is an indicator of what’s going to happen to our village in the future, and why a consolidated record of how Bampton is today is going to be so useful. There are no photos here of the old Community Shop. Or the HSBC bank. These used to be part of the fabric of Bampton. There will be other aspects that we’re familiar with today that will go too. But, other, new things will replace them. Change is constant. I hope you enjoy these photos for what they are and what they are part of. Nik Stanbridge August 2016 7
