Ausstellungsarchitektur Ambigious Edges (LIVING LAB: Constructing The Commons) Ausstellung im Rahmen der IBA 2022 Wien Entwurf mit Christopher Gruber & Lisa Schmidt-Colinet

CONSTRUCTING THE COMMONS umfasst einen Workshop, eine Ausstellung und eine Debatte. Ausgangspunkt des Projektes ist die Frage, wie die Commons, als gemeinschaftlich genutzte Ressourcen eine Teilhabe der Bewohner_innen an ihrer Stadt vermitteln können. Was können wir als Gemeingut definieren, welches unterschiedlichen Nachbarschaften und Bürgern_innen gleichermaßen zugänglich sein kann? Wie können geteilte Ressourcen in Verbindung mit Wohnen und Stadtraum neu beschrieben und nutzbar gemacht werden? Die Ausstellung bildet den Ausgangspunkt eines einwöchigen Workshops: Ambiguous Edges, so der Titel, widmet sich der räumliche Schnittstelle zwischen Neubaugebiet Sonnwendviertel und den bestehenden bngrenzenden Nachbarschaften, die durch Sonnwendgasse und Gudrunstrasse eine starke Zäsur erfahren. Studierende untersuchen Möglichkeiten der Verbindung dieser zwei unterschiedlich geprägten Stadträume. “Kein Tunnel und auch keine Brücke” Wettbewerb LIP 20 Linzer Innovationspreis für Stadtentwicklung

Der Aushub für die Tieferlegung der Strasse beträgt in etwa 14.000m³. Zum kompensieren werden zwei künstliche Hügel aufgeschüttet welche 4000m³ bzw. 5000m³ fassen. Somit sind zwei Drittel bereits wiederverwertet, für den Rest gäbe es hinter dem JKU Gelände noch Platz für 1-2 Aufschüttungen, welche einen ökologischen und vielleicht auch gesellschaftlichen Nutzen bringen würden. Spundwände oder ähnliche Elemente, sichern den Verkehrsraum. Darüber scheint eine Plattform zu schweben, welche schwer in eine Kategorie zu stecken ist. Mit einer Ausgangsgröße von 18*144m geht die Platte in einen Formfindungsprozess. Ausschließlich externe Einflüsse, wie Nachbarhäuser, Gehsteige, Radwege, Bäume oder Ähnliches beeinflussen die Geometrie. Während herkömmliche Infrastukturelemente, wie etwas Tunnel oder Brücken fast ausschließlich einem einzigen Nutzen dienen [Transport], so muss die neue Intervention unbedingt plurale Interessen befriedigen und gleichzeitig Raum für bis dato undefinierte Funktionen lassen. In diesem Sinne versteht sich dieses Projekt als nicht als starres Element, sondern bietet eine Fläche für potenzielle Entwicklungen in der lokalen Gesellschaft. Die Plattform soll also auch im bildlichen Sinne eine Ausgangsbasis bieten, für soziale, kulturelle, kreative oder pädagogische Zwecke. Sowohl die Universität und auch Schulen oder gemeinnützige Vereine oder andere Interessengemeinschaften können temporäre und/oder stationäre Nutzung beantragen. [Beispiele könnten sein: Workshops, (Sport-)Tutorien, Inforveranstaltungen, Lesungen, Screenings, Theateraufführungen, Punschstände, Flohmarkt, etc..]

Die vorgeschlagene Struktur ist nicht eins zu eins gegeben zu sehen. Vielmehr steckt in ihr ein formales Angebot, welches auf Grundlage von einigen Entwurfsprinzipen erstellt wurde. Wir glauben, dass 00 Der motorisierte Verkehr darf nicht mehr über dem Wohl der anderen Benutzer und Benutzerinnen stehen. Er sollte tiefer gelegt werden, was letztendlich zu einer Win-Win Situation führen würde. 01 Sämtliche Erde vom Aushub soll in unmittelbarer Nähe wiederverwertet werden. Die Schaffung einer Topografie/ Landschaft ist die beste Möglichkeit, das Material produktiv zu machen und einen Mehrwert zu generieren. 02 Fußgänger und Radfahrer werden als freie und gleichwertige Verkehrsteilnehmer angesehen. 03 Der individuelle Benützer soll nicht an vorgefertigte Wege oder Bahnen gebunden sein, sondern sich frei und selbstbestimmt bewegen können. 04 Der Radverkehr muss priorisiert werden. In diesem Fall schlagen wir eine durchgängige Bahn vor, welche über Brücken auf der Plattform landet. 05 Bäume werden als eigenständige Protagonisten im Stadtraum definiert und bekommen somit eine tragende Rolle in der Formulierung der Architektur. 06 So viel wie irgendwie möglich, sollte aus Stahl-Blechen gefertigt werden. Zum einen bietet die Voestalpine einen lokalen Produzenten, zum anderen erlaubt es eine elegante, schlanke und effiziente Bauweise. Wenn Bleche gebogen oder gefaltet werden, erhöht sich die Stabilität signifikant. Weitere Vorteile wären: Vor-Fertigung, rasches Montieren, Gewicht, Wiederverwertbarkeit. 07 Die Platzgestaltung sollte nicht zu detailliert designt werden, da wir heute noch nicht die Gewohnheiten und Appetite von Morgen kennen. Flexibilität, sprich die Möglichkeit zu temporären oder dauerhaften Adaptierungen muss forciert werden. Stadtraum ist Work-In-Progess. 08 Die Architektursprache sollte sich auf die wesentlichen Gedanken reduzieren und diese in bestem Maße unterstützen. Mehr nicht. Weniger auch nicht.

Die Transformation von einer Universitätsstadt zu einer Studentenstadt wird nicht von alleine passieren. Es passiert viel an der JKU zur Zeit, und das ist gut. Die Frage wird sein, wie man es schafft die Studierenden aktiver in den Stadtraum einzubinden, denn hier ist Linz abseits vom OK Kulturcenter nicht sehr vielfältig. An der Remise gibt es die Chance einen solchen Ort zu definieren. Denn unweigerlich werden fast alle Studierenden und auch der Lehrkörper täglich mindesten zwei Mal an der Intervention vorbeikommen. Unzählige Sitzgelegenheiten, ob im Grünen oder auf öffentlichen Couchen, sind verlockend zum Verweilen. Eine Studentenstadt lebt von Geselligkeit, Spontanität und Aktivität und hier könnte ein weiterer Schritt in diese Richtung passieren. Die anliegenden Bewohner wurden nicht vergessen. Es wird Vermittlungspersonen brauchen, welche ihnen auch die eigenen Vorteile aufzeigen können. Grundsätzlich werden Konflikte am besten durch Miteinbeziehung vermieden. Kompromissbereitschaft muss letztendlich von beiden Seiten gelebt werden.

Koath Semester 05 - Inhabiting the City Platform HTC history theory critisicm Prof. Angelika Schnell

Supposing that the majority of people living in the urban realm have little opportunities to deviate from the well-established way of housing and its associated community life, this project offers a frame for experimentation and aims to raise discussions and awareness for alternative attitudes towards life in the city. Although smallsized, the unit of private retreat offers a wide range of options and flexibility through the activation of extensive room heights and large-scale doors. Lifting systems not only enable unused furniture or object to be stored near the ceiling, but also allow for unknown activities up in the air. Scenarios, where all users connect their individual space to the central room for a common interest - could be a food festival, a ping-pong competition or a talent show as well as other spontaneous appetites must be possible and supported. The proposed condition involves 11 towers with approximately 90 inhabitants each, however further spreading is desirable. Highest intention has to be always the constant engagement with the surrounding in order to establish an active relation with its neighbourhood, as well as inviting the broader citizens into the area through a permanent accessible groundlevel and versatile leisure facilities.

A major part of the plinth area is to be continually developed, adjusted and erased through participatory decision finding. Certain rules apply which encourage the residents to get actively involved in the configuration of spaces and its use. A complex and heterogeneous environment emerges which does not call for solutions but rather experiments and discussions on topics as possessions, democratic decision-making, civic engagement, etc.

As this project inevitably will cause tension among various levels of the city, the topic of forces is consciously utilized. Simple folds become continuous, lines with dynamic character. The observer wants to understand how the elements lean on each other, what the inclinations are actually doing and how the forces are transferred. On principle, the folds are arranged all vertically as structurally efficient folds which visibly guide the forces into the ground. There is always a centre from which the folds start to taper and spreading its flowing lines through space. Although the fold chosen occurs to seem simple and easy to understand it can be treated with various parameters and options which enable an infinite number of appearances. Aspects like inclinations, rhythms, fold lengths and heights, addition and subtraction help to be utterly flexible whereas turning directions allow the fold to penetrate the third dimension, space. Apparently the implementation of a political, infrastructural project would cause tension among the local community and the different parties. This suggestion does not aim to convince somebody from its rational qualities, but to create spaces which have the power and the energy to strike even categorical critics.

Being located on a meadow in the twelfth district, commonly serving the purpose of recreation and dog-leisure, the assigned spot lies inbetween the odd tension-field of a cemetery and an elderly home. By close reading the site according the knowledge from radiaestetic and geomantic research, different localisations of energy conditions are assumed. ¹ Through simulating the found force fields in the given area, one of potentially infinite states of energetic distribution is detected. By deciding for a point in time, it is possible to identify various zones of radiaestetic exposure and shadow. Volumes shaped like unknown fruits or topological organs emerge in the field of all electromagnetic bombardment. Through visualising a temporary condition of the activating forces, a manifestation takes place. It is this energy-bodies which inform the architectural interventions. Protectors and topography embrace fictional volumes in order to make it real. Manifestation through anticipation. An environment of protective sensation is constructed from shells that become radiation shields, from hulls that channel the energy flow. By carefully investigating energetic conditions, three places for spiritual practice are identified. A space for a hermit [one with oneself]; A small kindergarten [one in a group of friends and companions]; A Grotto for Presence [one anonymous in public]. similar as in the concept of acupuncture. The case study explores an unorthodox approach of inheriting positive aspects when constructing with the awareness of domestic energies. The architecture students of our time are broadly educated and still, they might face a hard future when not teaming up and forming a group where each member is contributing with their individual strengths. A conglomerate of people from different cultures and diverse education can gain additional value and performance when everybody can focus on his or her particular qualities. Conglomerate Union is an architecture studio that aims to concentrate on pecularities and translate them into built environment. Like the variety of students, all required areas and volumes are constructed from the search for new ideas of thinking ordinary spaces. The diverse room-modules require a framework which combines all elements into one unit. Therefore, a slender and light skeleton provides the basis for all the inner life. The technique of the hanging model served as a tool to find an efficient frame-construction and define the arrangement of spaces within. When turning the whole structure back to normal, the iron skeleton becomes stable whereas now, the implemented elements are hanging. The building wants to enhance connections among the students through transparency and dependencies. Private capsules at the very top of the roof are spaces of retreat and relaxation - these are vital in order to guarantee the productive balance in architectural studies. as well as physical productivity and creative energy of the students – probably the most significant qualities a school can offer.
