Runway // Thesis
The runway on Alameda Point works as a filtration machine using bioremediation and rearranging land to create a levee to protect the site from sea level rise. The Environmental Interpretive Center and Research Facility will illustrate the process of cleaning and restoring soil, water, and habitat over the next fifty years. Sectional experiences of the site consist of a series of moments that reveal the building’s over, under, and adjacent conditions amongst the changing landscape.

Pier 70 // Residentials
In designing a residential project for a neglected community on an old pier, we explored the relationship between building and landscape. The master plan emphasizes an independent yet interactive living experience. The self-contained nature of the project includes retail, community services, and recreational facilities. Many of the units have a view of the bay, and the pedestrian ramps allow the community to circulate in and out of the buildings with ease. The green space recreates the notion of
the commons, an accessible open space for all the residents to share. This project’s main concern is to give back to the veterans’ community by providing a healthy and safe environment for those returning from duty in combat zones.

Anatomical // High Rise
What if transforming ideas from fashion into architecture could cause structure and skin to merge to create posibilities? Fashion and architecture both share the same design approach which starts with a human body and expands on ideas of space and movement. The three main pillars of fashion design are personal, political, and cultural identities. In my paper study models, each folding piece suggests movement. This movement defines relationships between dwelling (site), thinking (cli-
ent), and dressing (fashion). The main goal of this concept is to generate creative thinkers that are participating in the design process. This process will eventually define the circulation and relationship of programs. IDEO, being the client, has a powerful statement of how to become a design thinker and solve problems. Here, my question is how this idea of merging architecture and fashion can turn into an architecture that becomes the identity of the site.

Rhythm // Vector Field Interaction
What if there are multiple nodes in a project site that can activate and encourage more intensified interactions? What if the nodes make it easy for bicylists to dismount their bikes and engage in an event? This investigation, expands and explores the existing conditions of how people change status from being a pedestrian to being a bicyclist. The conceptual proposal addresses the green areas around the site, and the bicycle, and jogging routes in Embarcadero.

Shifting Environment // Shifting Dunes
The edge is not a defined line; it is not static either. It grows and changes as rapidly as nature itself. Dunes that grow out of the sea have a specific sequence and pattern, unique to a particular site and its orientation. In other words, these environments are dynamic; sometimes they are visible and sometimes they are hidden between the evolving plant varieties spreading rapidly by the runners and interacting with the environment. The nature that grows in the dunes eventually creates the city.

Inclination // Parkour Academy
The main intention was to consider building and landscape as one unique surface incorporating the parkour obstacles. The cross-sectional drawings enhance all the obstacles that are both horizontal and vertical. The movement of the inclinations were inspired by body movements from a person who is cooking and doing parkour. The inclinations progress gradually, step by step. The inclination is not just about the movement but also about time; in other words, how one space could have two functions
for day and night. The use of specific material and the transition from exterior to interior is also important. How can the materials look harder from the outside and smoother from inside?

Grotto // Film Archive & Outdoor Theater
The assigned site is located at Kenmore Square, an extremely visible and heavily trafficked area situated at a 6-point intersection on the edge
required programs and the specification for the square footage, I cut rectangular pieces of foam core and cut them into strips with different
of Boston Proper and the Fenway. Moreover, the site serves as a transportation node with a subway station underground. Thinking about the flow and movement and how the existing site has no focal point, the main intention is to use a continuous surface to create interior and exterior spaces for the given programs. Accordingly, by considering all the
widths. Then, by folding them along the site, I created many cave-like spaces that are connected to each other by the continuity of the strips. For instance, some of the narrower strips become stairs or ramps that are between the wider strips (the cave-like spaces).

Craft // Personal Work
As a designer, I’ve always been inspired and intrigued to learn about other disciplines such as product, fashion, and industrial design. I see architecture as a much broader spectrum which allows you to think far beyond only designing a building. This chapter consists of a series of personal enrichment works that allowed me to explore different disciplines within art and design through hand drafting, and experimenting with different materials for making models.
